  1. Was at the body shop yesterday picking-up my neighbor's 240Z, (getting paint polished-out), and they are repainting one of the Bob Sharp 280ZX IMSA cars. It looks like the one driven by Brad Frisselle on the datsunhistory.com website. sharp Very cool!
  2. Looks like there is evidence of rust along the door sills also. Scrape-off that paint and I suspect there will be much more... It's located in the same city where I live, so I can check it out if anyone's really interested.
  3. I saw the same Z! Mostly the back end, as he disappeared through traffic to an exit...
  4. Same here. Had to cut over 1 coil from the Eibach's to get her to sit level, but the springs have a good feel. Just don't go with the Tokico Blue shocks. While not bad, I've found them a be a bit too harsh for daily / weekend driving.
  5. Yep. Craftsman 3/8" drive deep socket on a 10"-12" extension does it.
  6. Plastic panels are all new, but I had to dye them, using dye from Classic Datsun. Original diamond vinyl in the rear was faded but still supple, so I dyed that as well. Same for the door panels. The trans tunnel vinyl was cooked and deformed in a couple spots and had to be replaced. At the time non-black diamond tunnel covers were NLA, (of course, now they are available...), so that's new, non-diamond vinyl. But her original clock works!
  7. I can vouch that a 3/8" drive with a 12" extension fits in just fine to remove the exhaust nuts with-out much angle or binding. Echoing what was said, penetrating oil and a little heat helps as well. Got them warm, then sprayed the nuts with PB Blaster after work. Next morning they came off reasonably easily.
  8. Not really required for the moderate weather in most of California. If the carbs are set correctly and the wiring is good, you should have no problem starting even in cold weather. The hotter ignition may improve the idle.
  9. Not leather, but high quality vinyl. Seats were done by a shop her significant other found somewhere in the gold country, (where he lives). It was less expensive than having the re-done in the SF Bay area and they came out great!
  10. 36 years? Several of us are at the tail end of the probability curve!
  11. Congrats on 34 years as well! I feel very fortunate to have picked a good one, but I'm still not eating the mushrooms. As I approach retirement in 5-6 years, I'll be worth more dead and she just might be happy with a little less...
  12. Thanks!__30 years today, and I still introduce her as "my first wife". __Amazing I made it this long, but then I never eat the mushrooms...
  13. I'm doing a cosmetic refresh on my neighbor lady's 72' 240Z w/ automatic transmission. Only a little more to do and it's ready for the road. __New paint. __New seat upholstery, vinyl panels, carpets, door seals, etc. __New Battery What's left? __Get engine running, (ignition problem) __Install tires on four-slot mag wheels, (from my car). __Install rear louvers. (1970's style) __Obtain / install new front bumper guard pads. Once it's driving, she want's to drive side-by-side down 280 with a chase car taking pictures of the two Z's. Later this Summer, we also plan to display our cars at a local car event. Should be fun!
  14. It's our anniversary today, so the bride & I took the day off and went for a ride in the Z on Highway 1. We stopped at Moss Beach Distillery for lunch and she took these pics of the car and I. It was a bit windy as can be seen in the picture.
  15. It's hard to tell what's going on from the photo. Is it a flat spot or a change in radius?
  16. Kinda depends on the car. While I'm not usually a big fan for some of these mods, I think it might look pretty nice in my engine bay...
  17. From currently "dark" (it's almost 9PM), SF Bay Area, I personally like the look of the "negative" stripe on a white car. It's a period correct accessory item and easily removed, so you need not worry about what a "purist" might think. My advice, since you already have a stripe, try it and see if you like it. If not, remove it. It's your car, so do what you want!
  18. Looks pretty nice. Te orage would be a nice contrast, but for my taste, I'd leave it to just the calipers. Just one guy's opinion. It's your car, so do what you want. Nice thing about paint on things like rims & brakes is that it can be removed...
  19. Mitchell,

I have a 280ZX master cylinder. You have to "carefully" bend & re-route the hard lines to the other side of the master cylinder. This gives a firmer pedal "feel" and slightly less pedal travel.

The master cylinder is attached to a larger 1973-1978 size master vac. This just provides a little bit more force than the smaller 1972-1970 master vac. It does require slotting the holes in the firewall.

I went with the non-vented, Toyota 4x4 front brakes. Pad size is almost the same as the stock 240 pads, but with dual cylinder calipers. They bolt up to the existing strut mounts, but you do need to cut back the backing plates to make room for the larger calipers and need different hoses.

My proportioning valve was failing and couldn't be rebuilt. As they are NLA, I went with an adjustable valve from MSA. Back brakes are stock and seem to work fine.

I don't know if it will stop any quicker, but it does have a firmer pedal, which I prefer.

  20. I have the 13/16" master and Toyota 4x4 fronts, larger 1973 master vac and an adjustable proportioning valve. I really like the pedal feel and she stops fine. Probably not required for a street car, and it may not stop any shorter, but I like the pedal feel better than the stock brakes.
  21. Sweet looking car! After silver, the 918 orange is my 2nd favorite color on S30's. Looks like you put a lot of work into a very clean, original car and it shows. Congrats on a job well done.
  22. I'll second both the Cayman, BRZ/FRS and S2000. Cayman is the "most" car, but also most expensive. The BRZ/FRS is just plain fun, very much like our S30's, and the S2000 has very good overall performance in a very civilized package.
  23. Oh man... That's terrible! At least you are still here to talk about it.
  24. I have only one question... Will the driver have a ZZ Top beard and dark sunglasses to go with the car? That took a serious amount of work and planning. Looks much nicer than I expected!
