  2. Ben, I've found it also depends on "who you talk to" at Hagarty. My first conversation with one of their reps sounds alot like what you describe. After getting similar feedback from club members, I spoke to them again and got a much different feel from them. For example, driving the car to work a couple times a month to show co-workers, (in a safe, relatively secure parking lot), was OK with them. Same was true for short pleasure road trips, (weekend or 3-4 days). They have no issue with driving at any time or any distance for club or classic car events. Basically, they just don't want you using it in on a regular basis in rush hour traffic or as a daily driver, where the risk of damage or loss is much higher... I'd try speaking to Hagarty again, but modify your planned use a bit. My guess is you will probably find them pretty accomodating.
  3. Nissanman, Can you provide some dimensions for these? They look like they might be pretty easy to replicate using RTV.
  4. Check the chart: http://k-mac-plastics.net/data%20sheets/delrin_chemical_resistant_chart.htm White lithium grease should be OK, but avoid regular suspension (grease gun) grease. It's highly resistant to beer, so no worries if you spill some on the busings!
  5. I've had a couple bad experiences with eBay purchaces, but they have been rare. I use eBay on a fairly regular basis. You do need to know the value of what you are buying so you don't pay too much, and it is somewhat a buyer beware environment. I only use PayPal as it provides some protection.
  6. Yep, SLA and other rapid prototype technologies will revolutionize the classic car parts industry. It's just going to take a maybe 5 more years for rapid prototype parts to become good enough at a low cost. Happily, it's only a matter of time...
  7. Had the same observation, and actually had to modify them slightly with a belt sander to make them fit.

  9. Since I'm not going for "show-car" stock, I went with a side terminal battery & wires. No concerns with the teminals contacting anything that way.
  10. Same wheels & tires I have on mine, which I've found to be a good street wheel/tire combination. Only difference is I've got Eibach springs which lowered the car about 3/4". They look great both at stock height or lowered.
  11. Yes, lock washers. Not cheap ones, the high temps can cause them to fail on the exhaust header. (learned this a long time ago the hard way).
  12. I did Eihbach's also. Lower's car about 3/4" with a slightly firmer ride and handle's better. Looks better but so low that you create suspension geometry issues. Make certain you get the 240Z springs. Bought mine from e-bay and was shipped 280 springs...
  13. Arne, Your car looks great! IMHO, think the "240 Z" probably looks better on a red car than the "Datsun" would. It blends-in on my silver car, but think it might be too prominent on a darker color.

  16. I used the Dupli-color paint on my tail light panels, grill & wheels. It's a higher quality urethane paint in a spray can. I used properly, you can achieve some very nice results. (I'd post a pic, but my computer has a problem & and I'm using my wife's computer).
  17. My next door neighbor lady is original owner of a green 72 automatic. On Saturday I finished removing exterior chrome, ding strips, lights, rear facia panels and interior panels. Will be towed to the paint shop late today or tomorrow. Will be very cool to have a nice 240Z next door to mine. Now if we can just get them to mate and produce offspring...
  18. Made a custom spring aluminum skateboard w/ urethane wheels back in the mid 70's. Mirror polished the board and applied that dark, stair-tread sandpaper in strips on the top. Then spent alot of time polsihing the bearing races to minimize friction, precision aligned the trucks and adjusted the stiffness of the truck rubbers to make it track perfectly. Darn thing was very manuverable, but so-oo fast that it was hard to control speed on steeper runs. Was a very fun, sometimes scary board to ride. Sold it after about a year after I grew out of skateboarding.
  19. Fastest I've ever ridden in were probably a Nissan GTR and a Z06 Corvette. Both were fast, but I was very surprised at how well the vette handled.
  20. I'm very surprised others have not commented on this article. Discusses much of what was debated in the earlier thread, including some difficulties they had with the early S30's.
