  1. Darrel, I hate to admit it, but your'e right! Initial injury ( 7 weeks ago) was preventable, but low probability of occurance. Sometimes the statistics get you. The re-injury was just me being stupid and clumsy...
  2. Re-fractured my right hand two weeks ago, by tripping on the porch because I forgot to activate the porch light sensor. Will be at least a month before I can drive or do any work on the car. Also have not posted much because it's a bit difficult to type. Not a big problem since the holidays are so busy I wouldn't have much free time anyway!
  3. This was a verbal over the phone quote from united transmissions. Keep in mind they have not seen the tranny yet...
  4. I just won a nice set of 72 carbs on eBay as spares. Plan to send my current carbs to Z Therapy to get them reworked in the next few months. My forward carb is just developing a bit of throttle shaft play.
  5. My 77 5 speed was $275 in usable condition. I plan to get it rebuilt before putting it into the car. Have a verbal quote for $550.
  6. I got a 77 5-speed locally for my 72' 240z a few weeks ago. Plan to get it rebuilt and install it sometime next year. Should be better for highway gas mileage on longer runs, but about the same for around town. Perfect!
  7. Like most, I don't fit a single catagory. Kind of a resto-mod. Have BRE spoilers, bigger Toyota front brakes, upgraded L series engine, (212 hp), headlight harness upgrade, H4 headlights, Eibach springs, 15" panasports with a grey & black interior. I'm in the process of completing a Vintage Air HVAC upgrade and have a 280Z 5-speed and Dave's diff mount upgrade to install next year. Everything I've done, with exception of the internal engine mods is easily reversable to stock, and the engine exterior looks stock with exception of the polished parts. I prefer the retro-original look as opposed to air dams and "boy racer" add-ons. I do like the BRE spoilers and sun shades. I have some sun shades, but and not sure if I will install them.
  8. I agree w/ Steve. The Mpotor Trend list is far better. I mean, how could Grass Roots not include the Ford GT40?!!
  9. It's a good idea. I'll look through my spare parts this weekend. Got a jump-start on this about a month ago. Gave a fellow 240z owner a decent left tailight assembly.
  10. My Z has no name as yet. Have to think about that. My previous "hobby" car was a 1960 MGA. It was named "Maybelle" after my best friends mother. Both his mother and the car had loads of personality. Years before I had a 1953 Willy's high-hood Jeep. It was named "Louise" after the same my buddy's girlfriend. Initially both were quite unreliable. The jeep got better, Louise didn't...
  11. Nice to meet you and welcome! You've owned your Z for 33 Years... That's pretty impressive!
  12. Remember those blue translucent NGK spark plug wires harnesses sold in the late 70's through mid 1980's? While web browsing I may have found a source for bulk wire. Comes in clear, translucent red and blue. Attached is a spec sheet. Two problems: 1 - I don't know if the resistance is too high / low, and - 2- The mfg datasheet indicates it's sold in 1000 meter rolls. I haven't tried contacting them, but perhaps with some sweet talking they might be willing to sell it in 25 or 100 meter lengths. Alternately, I found a source for the "clear" wire stock sold in 25 foot lengths. I'm thinking it may be possible to dye it blue to recreate the old NGK wires. Here's the link: http://www.thehotrodcompany.com/shopnow/show_item.asp?product_id=spw_clear25 Translucent Spark Plug Wire.pdf
  13. Fastwoman, That just sucks... Keep your head above water and I hope your boat and other property ride-out the storm untouched. At least your Z is safe. Good Luck!
  14. I believe "red" loctite is is the supposedly "permanent" hold (it's not), and the blue is the "removable" type.
  15. I'm a sailor also, just on the "left" coast. Have a 1983 Seafarer 30 with currently peeling varnish. Ignored her while restoring the car this last year. Will have lots of hours of work to make her bristol again next spring...
  16. My worst was a used, early 80's Toyota Cressida. It seemed like the fuel injectors were normal wear parts with a 8,000 mile life span. Was very surprised given it was a Toyota. Dumped the car after 2 years.
  17. Dave, Count me in for one as well! When do you want the check?
  18. Nice work. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Post some more pics when it's been buffed-out! I painted a car once and was worthwile experience. It came out OK, but I found out I'm much better at prep than painting... Come to think of it, that's still true today, 25 years later!
  19. Arne, I echo duffman's appreciation. Thanks for all the effort! Julio
  20. All I can say is wow!... The engine's not my cup of tea, but the level of detail is amazing.
  21. Just got back from a week business trip to Israel. Saw a few BMW 2002's, quite a few 318's, a couple Porsche 914's and Opals from the 70's, but not one Z, (of any kind). Were Z's exported to the middle east? I can say that the few 70's sports cars & sports sedans of this time period looked to be in pretty poor shape, so if they were sold there, they may have just rusted away...
  22. Sorry to hear that. Been there before. If you can, wait till spring when the sports car market is stronger and hopefully the economy improves so you can get a better price.
  23. These joints are just spot welded and filled with lead on S30's, (or at least thru late 1972 production...). If they are run hard on rough roads or have upgraded, hi-torque engines, cracking of the paint in this area is not unusual. Any good body shop can remove the lead and weld a full bead on the joints, eliminating this issue.
  24. Dan, if your bumpers are straight and chrome good, (or re-plateable), you might consider selling them and use the cash to buy fiberglass bumpers, since you are going to paint them anyway. That way someone who needs metal bumpers gets what they need Besides, fiberglass is easier to paint then chrome. Just a thought...
  25. Jon, Thanks! Now I know which tranny to look for...
