  1. Stephen and Rick, there is a discount for being a member here! When you look at your public profile page, the address bar will have a 5-7 digit number. That's your Classic Zcar Club member number, and by giving it to MSA when you order they discount your purchase. UPDATE: Well I just heard back from MSA, and the new total comes to $435. Which means that they took off about 10% for the club discount!
  2. I'll let ya know Mike. And I am having it professionally welded, no clamps for me!
  3. Yes, all the fit problems I have seen on this thread and others are associated with 260/280 installations. I have yet to read about problems on a 240. But I'll be sure to note any issues. As for the dyno, I don't readily have access to one so that could prove troublesome. I may know someone though, so I'll check into it.
  4. Well about 20 min ago I purchased the Motorsport Auto 3 into 2 Aerospace Coated Headers and Twice Pipes Exhaust. They're $300 and $155 respectively, and with basic shipping the total came to $480. This doesn't include the member discount, but that gets applied manually by them when the order is shipped. I've been looking into getting twice pipes for awhile now, and decided that it'd be a crime to do so without getting headers as well. From what I've read here and verified elsewhere, as a general rule the 6 into 1 headers are best for top end power whereas the 3 into 2 do more for middle band power. I don't plan on tracking my car anytime soon, so the 6 into 1 wouldn't be of much use to me. I decided to go with the coated headers for a couple of reasons. Headers are thin and have propensity to rust fairly quickly. My engine already has problems with heat, so the coating should help to reduce under-hood temperatures. The increased exhaust temperature should minimize scavenging losses and increase power (very minimally, I know). I'm planning on having them professionally installed and the twice pipes welded in place. While I could probably manage to get it all on the car, doing so in my apartment parking facility would be a PITA. And by having it welded I'll not run the risk of exhaust leak. I'll update this post with after-discount prices, unboxing pictures, install pictures, and pre-install and post-install videos.
  5. I saw my first 2+2 Z in person this summer and I can't say that it sat right with me. I thought that it killed most of the Z's most endearing lines. After seeing a couple of really well done 2+2s on the web though, I'm beginning to accept them as fairly good looking in their own right. Case in point is a very nice Irish Z that was recently posted to the car blog www.Jalopnik.com. It's a well done blue/gray with fender flares, dished wheels and JDM mirrors. Irishman Modernizes Classic Datsun 260Z, Hoping To Start New Stereotype What do you guys think?
  6. A great couple of years I spent in the rear bucket seats of my dads 928. It was a beautiful car. If it weren't so damned expensive to maintain, I'm sure it'd be 'my' 928 by now.
  7. Premium is not neccessary, although I know a number of members here use it. Gas was leaded when the Z came out, and the lead was used to raise gasoline's octane rating. I believe that is why they use premium. I'm doing a paper right now so I can't go over much with you, but as a new Z owner there is one consideration that should be at the front of your mind always: Beware of rust! And enjoy!
  8. That is clearly carbon fiber weave, not colored fiberglass. What you're seeing is the core material placed in the middle of the carbon fiber layers. This is used to absorb more epoxy and strengthen the part. This is a common practice. Apparently the carbon got stretched when it was laid, allowing the core to show through. Since you ordered it as an appearance part, I would recommend returning it.
  9. I'm not 100% sure that Dave (Zs-ondabrain) is supplying those, but it sure as hell looks like it. If those are his, they're probably the best thing you can do to your Z's electrical system. Top notch stuff, I have the HLH and PLH. And Dave, congratulations if you're now an MSA supplier.
  10. Listen to Stephen on this one. The Z has better looks than the ZX anyway. Nice find BTW.
  11. I just picked up the bushings Arne mentioned. Part #32853-22000. They were $2.97 each, for an after tax total of $6.44. It took a couple of days for them to get from Kentucky all the way up here to the Puget Sound. I noticed my shifter slowly spins nearly a year ago, but never really thought anything of it. Each time I get in her, I just twist it back. Always figured I'd get around to fixing it at some point and after seeing this thread I decided to finally do it. When I free up some time I'll see about putting these in and let everyone know how it goes.
  12. That's not a picture of my setup. I have a stock '70 engine bay, with the PCV hose connected.
  13. Randy, I also went over the PCV info on your first post about your carb problems. There should be a picture of the filter you should get now that it's not hooked up.
  14. ATF is short for Automatic Transmission Fluid. It's similar to motor oil, but lighter weight. It's typically red in color, but I think I've seen green. The ATF level in the carbs should be checked fairly regularly as well, since it's essential to proper carb function.
  15. Randy, The hose fitting on your head is for PCV or Positive Crankcase Ventilation. With all of the movement going on inside the block, there needs to be a way to keep internal pressure from building up and blowing engine seals. Previous to 1963 ('61 in Cali) it was vented directly to the engine bay. And therefore, straight into the environment. Connecting it to the air cleaner effectively ensured that all air in the engine would exit through the tailpipe. I've attached an image of an engine with a small filter like you should get. -Jon PS. The tube running under your intake manifold was mandated by the EPA in 1971. The "Thermal Air Cleaner" of which that tube is a part, was used to heat the A/F mixture during cold-start to better atomize the gasoline droplets.

There's a lot of info on these wheels throughout this forum. Just use the search function and you should find plenty!
  17. Hey guys, thought I'd share some of the new wallpaper threw together. I noticed last night when I came home that my parking garage was empty, so I decided to do a quick little photo shoot.
  18. Very cool. Congratulations man.

He'll always be Luke with pretty Cool Hand to me. From everything I've heard, he is a stand-up guy. I hope his last days are his best.

Wow, I like it. I think I'd really like it if they cleaned up the front (it's too busy and doesn't match the clean lines of the rest), and made a larger power bulge. I'm also not sure if I'm digging the double-bubble roof on it either. Looks right on a 'Vette or Viper, but I'm not sure about this one. Nice rendering either way. I especially like the back.

Wanted to show off my new whip! Nothing too special, but the nicest bike I've ever owned. '09 Specialized Hardrock Comp Disc 21in hardtail frame on 26in wheels with 6in disc brakes. 24 paddle shifted Shimano gears.
  22. Mike - This thread should be merged with Iacoski Z Design Study Hits The Intarwebs thread.
  23. A little rough around the edges, but definitely a neat design.
