I'm back with another Z
Well I sold my '72 last October and it nearly killed me since I had waited Soooo long to get one in the first place. Almost a year later and a move across the country from Vancouver to Toronto and I have found another car that will help ease the withdrawls. This car is decent but has issues that I need to address sooner or later. In it's lifetime one of the previous owners did some extensive body work and the car now sports fiberglass fenders and both quarters are FG as well. The quarters look pretty good but those old FG fenders really need to go. It has an L28 (N42) installed with the E88 intake and SU's and stock 4 spd. The interior is in really decent shape with the exception of the drivers 1/4 window trim was cracked as well as the back tail light panel. I bought both from ebay and will replace them as soon as they arrive. The car has older ATS wheels that remind me of the cromodora style wheels but I am thinking of moving up to 16's for a fuller look and more grip. Paint is maybe a 6 out of 10 but that is the last thing on the list until I get it tuned properly, steering and suspension checked out and all the little gremlins worked through. I hope you like it...so far, I do. As for goals with this car....get it running right and enjoy the last few days of sunshine before the winter season comes. I can plan over the winter what kind of changes will be made.

New 240Z in Canada
Martin, If you want another option, try Specialty Engineering in New Westminster, BC as Andy Pearson has been building Datsun race cars for 30 years and he knows more than most people by far. Shop rates are decent and he has access to pretty much anything you need. I will watch with anticipation as you transform my old girl into someone new and exciting and special to you. Good luck.

New shoes for the girlfriend
The Konigs were purchased through MSA and I paid right around $500 which included the rims, caps and lug nuts. In my opinion it was worth it as in Canada I would have paid about $200 more and waited weeks to get them. here is a few more pics with the car lowered now on eibachs and new tokico struts as well as the new front bre spoiler is installed. I hope you all like the changes.

Konig Rewinds are impossible to find!
Lazeum, That looks good man....I have a set of eibach lowering springs and new tokico struts to be installed with the hopes of lowering to where your rendering shows. Hopefully it turns out that sweet. Chris

Konig Rewinds are impossible to find!
I just bought my rewinds from Motorsport Auto and had them in 3 days. I picked up the 15x7, zero offset graphite wheels and they are awesome. Give them a call and see what they have left. I bought my tires locally and went with Kumho Ecsta KU31 summer tires....very nice and look good on the rims. Good luck

SPORTMAX 002... Should I go 16s or 15s
I looked at the Sportmax for a long time and finally moved to the Konig's as I was told the 16's only came 16x8 with 0 offset. Once my car i lowered, I'm told the 8 inch wheel will rub. Here's a couple of pics with the Konigs on..15x7, zero offset and 205/50/15 Kumho's...Once the car is lowered, it will look even better. Good luck

New shoes for the girlfriend
Thanks for the feedback. It's nice to have actual summer performance tires instead of the old bias radials. I have a stupid grin on my face every time I go and look at the car as the rims are what I had in mind when I bought the car 3 years ago...finally broke down and got them and Sooooo glad I did.

New shoes for the girlfriend
I have not been active here for some time and the winter is finally over so I bought the old girl some new shoes. Konig rewind, 15x7's with Kumho Ecsta KU31 205/50/15. The new suspension goes in soon to drop it and reduce the amount of gap at the wheel wells. Here she is..before and after

How to Convert 240Z to Internally Regulated Alternator
Why don't you guys just buy the new alternator from Z Specialties in Washington. I bought the 105amp internally regulated alternator and it's just plug and play...that easy. PLUS> You get better amperage at idle and can easily run wipers, blower, CD and lights without everything going dim. Check it out

Do people notice you in your classic Z on the road?
Well, I can say without hesitation that it takes me twice as long to do anthing when I am out as the car gets tons of attention. I even take it to the local Thursday night cruise at A&W and it sits amongst the hot rods and the all the domestic muscle...all the while people gathering around it with smiles on their faces. The great thing about the 240Z is that everyone has good things to say about it. They owned one, they always wanted one or just kind words about how she looks today. The best feeling in the world knowing it's mine.

Thanks for the tutorial...Since I am not familiar with paint, I will do my homeowrk and ask the questions before I start. If necessary, I will postpone the paint until I am ready to strip it completely and start from scratch. It's not like it doesn't look good now, I just want it to look better.

Actually, the paint is 20 year old enamel that is not really that thick. It also has a lot of orange peel so I figured I would get it sanded down, smoothed out in the spots it's needed and re-shoot it with base/clear. I also want the jambs done as well as under the hood and hatch. Good suggestion though..I appreciate the feedback

Hi Mike. Yes, that was me. It was a good show and it was good to meet you and appreciate the beautiful Z you have. I'm hoping that by next years show, the car is in new paint with new rims/tires and all cleaned up under the hood. Cheers Chris

Canadian Z's whats their history?
I bought my '72 just 2 years ago and it was an original California car that spent time in Indiana before moving to British Columbia. pretty much rust free with the exception of tired floors that are being replaced this winter. It runs like a scalded dog and I can't wipe the stupid smile off my face when I drive it...too much fun

Thanks for the kind words everyone. As for colour...I am keeping her black as I find it absolutely stops traffic wherever I go. It was 112 lime yellow originally and there are some imperfections with the paint now so I am hoping to get her all smoothed out and re-sprayed base/clear to really make it pop. The only other upgrades for her will likely be new suspension, 5 speed and perhaps some better rims and tires.

Hey Mike, I'm going to try and get as many shots as possible for the floor repairs to document the process. The pans look great from Zedd findings and there is a fellow named Dan Giroux in Surrey who is going to do the repair. He owns a small shop called the Zed Shoppe and was highly recommended. As far as paint goes, mine is full of orange peel and although it looks great from 10 ft, I want it to look as good as possible.

Hi everyone, I belong to another Z car forum and have found much useful information here so I thought I would join and introduce myself. I have a pretty stock 1972 240Z, all numbers matching car that has had little done with the exception of new electronic ignition (pertronix), coil, z specialties IR alternator and a mild cam upgrade. Lots of detail work under the hood and of course black paint. Still lots to do as it goes in for new floors ( Zeed findings) this December and perhaps a new coat of colour before spring. I hope you like her. Cheers, Chris
