  1. I've got a '78 280z (4 speed), and I'm afraid that the transmission is on its way out. I was considering replacing it with a 5 speed, but I've heard mixed things on the early and later 5 speeds. What's the difference? -Ben

I've been kicking around the thought of getting some monza headers for my 280, and since my exhaust would be in pieces, how about moving the exhaust under the doors? Perhaps like that on the Cobras. How would this look on a z? I've never seen it done before. Any ideas? -Ben

Would it also be wise to replace the webbing? Everything else seems ok. Thanks Carl! -Ben

I've got a 1978 280z, with an all black interior, and the black "basketweave" seat upholstery. The passenger seat is in pretty good shape, but the driver's is shot to pieces. I've been sitting on a thin, cheap seat cover the PO put in, but i'd really like to sit on a real seat. I've found new seat foams at thezstore.com for $80/seat, and I can get a pair of the basketweave seat upholsteries from black dragon auto for $300, which puts my total parts cost at about $460, plus shipping. Does this sound reasonable? This is a field i know little about. -Ben

Those wheels! ah! My '78 has those wheels, and I see them on tons of z's, but I have no idea where they're from. Dealer option? Can someone enlighten me? -Ben

I just replaced those on my '78. They were cracked, and one even had a huge chunk missing. I bought a new pair from Black Dragon Auto, and they still leak. It's really frustrating, because I can't think of anything else to do, other than adding some extra door seal strips right there. Any thoughts? -Ben

so, after a week of frustration, I took it in to be looked at. A wire had gone bad and broken, and I replaced it. They work fine now. Thanks to everyone for their input and help! I really appreciate it. -Ben

by dash lights, i meant the turn signal indicators, not the entire dash. I had replaced the hazard flasher, I didn't see the turn signal flasher. I swapped out the new flasher for the turn signal flasher, and it still is not working. I cleaned the two black connectors like you suggested. so, for those at home keeping score: hazard lights: good turn signals: no good.

I found the flasher and replaced it, and only the hazard lights come on. I checked the fuses and they're all good. could it be the turn signal switch?

I was driving my '78 280z home yesterday, and the turn signals stopped working. When i hit the signal switch or the hazard switch, nothing happens, no noise, dash lights, or exterior lights. I bought a turn signal flasher, but I can't find where the old one is (how embarrassing). Is this the problem, or could it be something else? Thanks, -Ben
