New guy saying Hello (79' Fairlady RH Drive)
Once tagged and w/current stickers the county can't say anything. In Md., historic tags start at 20yrs of age, and become exempt from the vehicle inspection requirement. I believe at 25yrs here, they become exempt from emissons testing also. Screw your nosy neighbor!

2008 Nationals
If I'd been here 6 mos. ago, you could have had my 85 CJ w/working Meyer snowplow dirtcheap. Traded it to a friend for a paintjob on my RX. The neighbors used to love me! NOT so much anymore, too many cars.

Buying used "check list"
Check my thread 'I'm looking for a new Z (year?)? It gave me some things to look for as well as general criteria you should make and try to follow. It is still listed in the chit chat forum.

Just a quick "Hello"
Welcome Dave. I too am also a 'newbie" to the site. My wish to 'relive fond memories' and re-experience the Zperformance was recently answered. Within a month of posting my search for a car, (and of course looking at many) I found and bought one on Dec 12. I don't know if it was blind luck or the goodwill of others that I found mine so quickly. Nonetheless, I am extremely happy w/purchase and hope you find yours as quickly as I did. You will find great advice here, just ask for it!

Does anyone use 'classic car auto insurance'?
That was great customer service! I'm going to get my Z insured there, but I've got to get my RX re-titled in my name alone before they'll insure that one there. It seems cars titled in business names must be wholly owned by 1 individual. Our business ownership has 5 sibling/shareholders. Also, if you know, in Md. does 'antique car' status become available at 25 or 30 yrs of age? By the way, good to see another Marylander here!

Where's a good place to put jackstands?
Your probably right about the need to raise the car for 3 months or so, I was just wondering. But the county I live in can afford to salt and sand these roads too much. Last week we only got barely 2 inches of snow and the road on my cul-de sac already has globs of sand and muk on it. I doubt I'll be able to drive it much over the winter less we get good rainstorms in between the snow and ice!

Where's a good place to put jackstands?
I was having some exhaust work done on my truck and i mentioned my purchase of a 71 Z to my mechanic. He said if I was going to store it for the winter than I should raise all 4 wheels off the ground to relieve the stress off the chassis and bearings. Opinions? He recommended places for placement like the rear axle and front suspension, was he correct?

Not All Sites Are Created Equil!
I've got a 06 Civic EX purchased 11/05, and I love it. I get 30 - 37 mpg combined, all depending on how much 'sense' I use when on the highway. Recently my 21yr old drove a leg of a trip to Fla. while I was napping. He got like 25 mpg, I think he may have gone a bit over the speed limit!! Overall, I am ecstatic with the performance/mpg comparison and I really don't believe that your hybrid will yield you any more than about 40mpg. By the way, how is your 'resto' going. Looking for pics and can't find any?

I'm looking for a 'new' Z (year?)
Yeah, kinda like way back, when I was still dating!!

I'm looking for a 'new' Z (year?)
So that was a "no" to undercoating, and a yes to the alternator upgrade. I'll have to search for the fusebox upgrade link because I remember frying one in the late 70's w/o doing anything and the smoke and smell scared the crap out of me back then. Thanks for the opinions.

I'm looking for a 'new' Z (year?)
Well everyone, ITS DONE!!!!! Put my money down on a green 71 240Z. Balance on Wed, then short 2hr drive back home. Maybe I didn't take as long as I should have to close deal, but car is really straight and clean! Checked all 4 fenders, surface and underneath, rear hatch area, rockers, engine bay and saw nothing evident. I was ecstatic! Then I remembered to check the main rail and floor boards, only checked the drivers side and they also were clean. Overlooked the spare tire compartment, but I imagine it is also good. I don't care, I GOT HER!!! The test drive was good, except at full steering lock she rubbed a fender - no problem. Also while driving and letting off the accelerator, there is a small shimmy coming from the rear. Don't know what that is, hopefully not serious, I'll let my mechanic take a look, but I don't care, I GOT HER!!!. Y'know, its hard to believe after 25yrs, w/o driving a Z, it brought back happy memories the moment I pushed down on the accelerator and felt that quick surge and neck snap, what a rush!! Gotta coupla questions and the Z's own honey-do-list already: (1) to undercoat (ziebart) or not - will it just hide the rust from me, or will it actually help protect the chassis? (2) headlight and parking light harness upgrade I've been reading about. (3) is it better to run a direct lead from battery w/inline fuse for accessory outlets to power radar detector, GPS, and IPOD? I'm sorry but these are 2007 must have creature comforts for cruising, at least for me. (4) front air dam (5) new throatier exhaust (6) maybe the alternator upgrade in time. That'll be pretty much it I believe, but she'll probably ask for more, they always do! I'll try to attach a pic here. Oh, and it has slots on her now, wheel and tire size I forgot to ask, I don't care, I GOT HER!!! Oh Doug, if I forgot, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Just curious....
Wow! So there is a reason for living out West besides the good weather!

Steve, I have AAA+ also. Ain't it a shame it costs as much as insurance on 1 car? Although, use it for 1 tow, and it pays for itself!

'stock' isn't a requirement at Hagerty's, you should get an online quote over there and save $$$$.

Just curious....
Not to knock the young guys, but I also check out an rx7 forum on occasion. I find that alot of rx's in general are owned by teens and twentysomethings looking for a cheap ride and then they spend a whole lotta bucks in mods. I read one thread where a guy had like 5 of them, him and a buddy each took 1 out to check out the highwater situation in the NW US. Needless to say, 1 stalled in some highwater, the other guy chained up to pull it out but the 1st car started to float pulling both cars down the swollen creek. Not to laugh at the situation up there or for their personal loss, but what a sight that must have been! Whatever happened to common sense???

Such as Hagerty's or the like. And if so, ever tried to make a claim on the policy? Their rates under cut my State Farm policy on my Mazda Rx7 by so much that I could insure the Mazda + my intended Z car purchase by almost $500/year! In 15 yrs or so, the initial purchase price will be recouped (of course, not accting for inflation). Let's see... 15+present age...=??? Will I still be able to get into the Z w/o cramping up???...

Just curious....
'Uniqueness' always draws a comment, but 'style' lasts and lasts. Winters are are harsh up there, used to ski up at Wisp when I was 'younger'. Colder than you know what....

Just curious....
Other than your own Z's, How often does anyone actually see a vintage Z (70-73 240) on the road? I know in the DC metro area I have not seen a one in the last year!!! Its rare enough to see a 1st gen RX7 because of the rotaries dying!
