Evening all ,I have been following this thread for a while and the more pics I see of 920 gold ,the more I like it . My Feb-71 #23215 was gold and thankfully some of it still remains . The light in these shots don't really show as well as they could although you can see what untouched paint looked like in 71 . The exterior of the car has been repainted black but everything else still is there as factory condition . If I ever did a complete teardown like the car from Michigan I would seriously consider the 920 as well . And yes for those who might be wondering , that is the original Bridgestone laying there in the tub . See ya and always love to see the beautiful work that is being done to these Z's . Chris
  2. Evening all , the all Datsun show has come and gone and it was real good time for everyone who attended . Some really nice folks were up from Oregon and Washington for autocross on Saturday and a car show In North Vancouver on a very beautiful sunny Sunday . I've attached a couple from the Saturday fun and a couple of the show . The fellow with the zx comes on this site a bit so I told him I would show off his car to the world . Next year the show will be on the same weekend so if you would like to come up to enjoy our hospitality please feel welcome . z you all later Chris

on my 71 ,I had the same issue until I figured out that the plastic lens had some how come a bit loose and was binding against the moving part of the gauge at the lower part of the assembly .I used a small bit of mastic putty on the lens cover and was able to slightly pull out the lens so it was not binding any more , problem solved . Have fun with your Z Chris
  4. Hello fricfrac , yours is a great looking Z ,if you want some locals to see it and help you with you estimation of value you should plan to be in Vancouver on the weekend of 19-20 of Sept for a day of autocross on sat and show and shine on Sunday. Here is the link http://www.dnbc.ca/ . I unfortunately won't be ready with my Z as lacrosse keeps getting in our way although we will be there, albeit in the Pathfinder . Hope to see your car in person . There is another member from this forum from the Island ''Langford Chuck'' and I believe he is making the trip over as well . later Chris

When you go to purchase your bushings , my suggestion would be to buy the black urethane from Energy suspension as they are graphite impregnated and lube the heck out of them with white lithium grease when you are installing and do as well what others are suggesting with the zerk fittings and your problems should be solved . Avoid the red colored as they will squeak after a time . Others will chime in with similar advice Z you later Chris

Good luck to your son in making it to Ontario , I am envious to do a trip like yourself in my z one day . Tom , the Z your going to look at today looks great from the pics on CL and as you probably know there has been a big price drop on that listing . A few months back it started at around 7500 $ if I remember correctly . At 4$ g now it could be time to strike a deal . When I bought my 71 it was advertised for over 5g$ and no one wanted it at that price . I drove it back home here in the lower mainland for 2800$ and have been smiling ever since . Since you are so close to the city as well try to take in the show at waterfront park in North Vancouver on the second weekend in September , if all works out for me look for my Z in all black E-primer . Z you all later Chris

Hey , Johnny 'o here are some pics of what my z rides on . When I bought my car they were on it and I was thrilled . All the caps were there, although pitted they came up nice with some polish and elbow grease . I scuffed the black paint and re -painted with dupli color wheel paint ,can't remember the paint code off hand as my shop is elsewhere . After I polished the caps I sprayed them with black chrome dupli-color and they came out awesome ! I love the look of these old skool wheels and when they get new rubber to finish them off it will be great . I intend to buy Falken Azensie's to help in the twistys , although I will consult with Arne before I lay out the $ Hope my pic's are what you are looking for . See ya chris
  8. Morning all , where I live here in British Columbia , Canada we have what are known as deer mice and the typical field mice as well . The feces that they leave can have a fungus bacteria that grows that has deadly consequences on your lungs . In the past couple years there have been fatalities that have occurred In the Whistler area and elsewhere in the province . This has happened mostly in recreational cabins where the environment allows the fungus to grow . My friends who own Cabins up at Pitt lake go to the extreme of wiping down all the counter tops, etc with bleach to offset any potential problems that could occur when they arrive for the weekend . I know this sounds extreme , but it would be my biggest consideration about this car . good luck to you in your search for a Z , hopefully a poop free car that you can enjoy . z you all later chris

Look at my avatar and note the # . This Car was built in early February 1971 ,so you can back track a bit and come up with build date . Z you later Chris BTW , my refresh is just about done so there will be some pics soon . The longest year and a half of my life that I wouldn't trade for anything . hooray !!!!!!!!!!!!

I know that car very well , why don't you take a pic of what is under the passenger sun visor and start a whole new line of comments ! BTW , I like the stripes and everything else that your car has to offer . see ya Chris
  12. Great responses as predicted 5 and dime , excellent thread ! Hello pit crew guy , I spent last week in las Vegas for a lacrosse tournament with our teen son's club , what a awesome time we had . I had my camera everywhere we went hoping to see a Z but only saw a zx and it was pulled over in a parking lot by the state police so I didn't go searching for shots like I would have normally . I imagine cruising the strip in vintage jtin would open more than a few eyes ! see ya Chris
  13. Although I feel 34 everyday , I will be turning 46 this august . I have had D ownership since my first car at 17 , it was a 71-510 ,lots of fun then a 72 240, sadly crashed , then a b210 and finally on to pickup trucks from then on . Now our family fleet consists of A 2002 pfinder , 92 ranger , 93 civic and my baby the 71-z . It has been a great ride this thing called life ! see ya Chris
  14. Nice find on the Z . I wanted to show you what b-c safari gold looks like in my spare tire tub . My car is a feb 71 beauty that I am proudly working on daily . Except for some of the floorpan and the front left frame rail , which I have already repaired , my car was a similar kind of find . The po had originally wanted over 5-g , but people were hesitant . I drove her home in turn key condition for 2800$ . I feel I did well also ! And to those wondering , yes that is the original spare with maybe a little Japanese air still left in her ! I to will live at the wheel in a few more months down the road . see ya Chris

Hi guys , I have been following this post and it seems we all want the same thing , our aluminum to look good . I am of the belief that it takes a lot of care and patience to get aluminum to reach a high polish . I always start with a very low # of sandpaper grit like 220 and systematically work up to a high # like 1500 and even 2000 in some cases . When I start to wet sand with the lowest # I like warm water with a tiny bit of laundry detergent added so that the oxidation has a method of carrying the minute particles away from the working surface . After I'm satisfied with the first # grit taking away the scratches and pits , I dump my water and then rinse out the bucket so that there won't be any grit possibly left and then make a new mix of water\soap and then proceed with the next higher # of grit , usually 320 and just like step one I sand entirely again . I repeat this process all the way up to 1500 and then and only then do I break out some polish . I prefer Autosol , although I have used never dull before with excellent results as well . In the attached photo's are my son's wheels from his ''Ahem '' Honda and the wheel with the high polish took me almost four hr's to reach this point with out any aid of power tools at all . I do have buffing wheels and cutting polishes but I generally use those on my river boat where there are large area's to cover . Turn up some some music and have a cold beverage when your hand starts to cramp and be patient and you will achieve good results as well . I have seen Dave's engine bay in person when We where in Seattle a few months back and his methods are excellent as well . take care Chris

  17. Sorry guys , I had a dimwit moment , The o\d and i\d are 1.5 inch . I had just come into the after my son's first driving lesson with a stickshift , my mind was elsewhere ! Later Chris
  18. Thanks guys for the comments , Just to let you know the pvc is 2.5 inch in o\d and the tubing is a 2.5 inch i\d . Gary I didn't think about a 45 angle , I,m sure it works as well or better . As for cutting the end shorter it was to get as tight a fit to the inner well as possible . talk to you all later Chris
  19. Afternoon everyone , I just finished building cowl drains for the Z . There was a thread from Enrique that I found and I followed his instructions and made what you see here . The pvc 90 degree was modified by cutting the one end shorter so it would fit into the rubber drain outlet easier and not bind while allowing the 90 to fit as close to the inner fender as possible . I found some woven tubing at 2$ per foot and and some gear clamps to go around the whole assembly and then secured the rubber drain with some electrical tape . To fit the pvc elbow into the tubing I warmed the hose with a heat gun and the elbow slid right in .When it cooled down the tubing kind of shrunk around the elbow to make a very tight fit . I cut the bottom portion at a angle and then fit the now assembled drain tube into the rubber drain hole . I then taped and clamped into place and the fastened the bottom of the drain with a screw through the plastic splash guard and the job was done . I made the splash guards from a old mudflap and made the seal that you see from some 1 inch round foam that I scored from work .I sliced the foam part way and glued it into place with rvt gasket sealer. The bonus was that the tubing came off a roll so there was a natural curve to it allowing it to fit very close to the inner fender .I was able to build both sides for less than ten $. Thanks for the great ideas that come from this forum everyday Hope you all like what I have done Seeya Chris

Hi guys , we all think along the same wavelength . Two years ago our family went to Drumheller Alberta to go to the tyrell museum to see the dinosaur exhibits and we stopped at a gift shop on the way into town . We all walked in and left not even 5 mins later to find my 2002 pathfinder had been cardoored by someone . There was a person parked in the stall right next to my new dent , so I asked him if he did it .Of course he said no so I asked him to prove it by opening his door to see if it matched my new dent . It did not match , although he did say that as he was pulling into the lot he watched a family get into a big truck and swing the door open and that it looked like they hit my P-finder . The dad got out and looked a my new dent and promptly got back in his redneck mobile and split the scene . I then went back into the gift shop to see if the had surveillance cameras of the parking lot and of course they didn't , so I got screwed over by someone who obviously doesn't give a crap about anything other than themselves . I was able to keep myself composed thankfully and we continued on our holiday and when we finally got back home to British Columbia I was able to hide most of the marring with eagle one nanowax .Since that event I have become paranoid to the extreme in parking lots , so like most of you I now park in corners and uphill of shopping carts in all of our vehicles . I do believe in karma and I'm sure that the redneckmobile will get it due somewhere along the way . Later Chris

Hi all , it's funny how we are all doing the same things, or so it seems .I pulled both my seats last nite as today they both go in for re-re at the upholster . As you can see the volcano completely melted my strapping , so I will be installing the new improved strapping which will be slightly elastic and will have a bit of give . I'm staying with the cloth inserts and will be having new vinyl installed on both the seats .My upholster will also be fitting additional foam and padding to greatly improve the comfort of these seats . I will post pic's in a few more weeks of the completed seats . till then , back out to the shop . Bonzi , I love your blue , it is the color I will be painting as well ! Chris

thanxz for all the replies , I always know that I will get the right info when I ask here . I talked to our mechanic at work and he told me to go with a 750 cca battery made by delco remy made in the USA , in his opinion this is the best I could buy here in Canada and with our discount at our local parts supplier I could get a excellent price as well . My car is pretty much a weekender once the two feet of snow that we have right now melts so other than firing her up mid week to here her purr , she won't be on the road very much . My biggest concern was that I would have to strong a battery and would cause damage to my electrics system ,but that is obviously not a concern . Thanxz again Chris

Evening all and happy new year . A year to the date on new years eve I started up my 71 240 after putting back all the required parts . Man did it ever sound nice after a year of sleeping , although I did have to pull the battery out of my Pathfinder to get her up and running . My question is what is the recommended battery cranking amperage that I should be looking for when I go to purchase new this weekend as well as thoughts on maintenance free verses the old standard type Thanxz Chris
  24. I like your choice of a\d it will look awesome . I especially like the libre's that you show . They are my first choice for old skool Z's . I have them on my z and love the look . Have fun with the bd present and the adventures that a new baby will bring to your lives . Chris

Hello , when I bought my z a while back I didn't notice at first that I was missing the passenger door dove tail and thought that all I needed was a adjustment to cure the whistling sound and fix the loose fit of the door . I got a dove tail from a friends part car , installed, and in minutes fixed my door issues . My door seals are still the originals from 1971 . I also believe that this part is integral to carry the weight load of the door so I would source some out and remedy your problem . Have a great day Chris
