Hello all , sorry I don't have any shots of my friends interior of car ,Next time I'm around his garage and take some and then will post . Steve as far as the color of the finishers on the 70 maybe the light is making the paint look a little darker ,although my friend has done several restores on early z's and he has always painted them out this way that Wick describes . See ya Chris

Hello , The formula I quoted is from the book , " how to restore your Z-car " by Wick Humble , ISBN # 1-931128-02-2 . This is a great book, get it from California Bills automotive handbooks . My friend did a complete resto on his 70 and this was his guide along the way . His t-finishers where painted following this formula and they look awesome, IMHO , as well some of you might recognize the factory pearl white from 70 also . I hope this pic will help in some of your decisions . See ya Chris
  4. Hey xray, nice car ,I like the green of your Z . As far as spring\struts i ordered Hp's with matching lowering springs .I was told that they are like iluminas at # 3 setting and I'm good with that .I looked a little closer at my haynes and now have a much better understanding of my next tasks . Thanks to all for the help . Chris
  5. This is great stuff , thanks for the attachment pic's , they will me most helpfull to me ! Have a great weekend . Chris
  6. Hello nissanman , it is a bit scary eh , I have a friend who is a journeyman mech who will be helping \guiding me with the ball joints as I have never taken any apart before and i will follow your advice and re-lube and tighten the rack . Surprisingly the rack boots look all around perfect , maybe they were changed out by po . Quick question , on the steering rack immediately to the right of passenger rack bushing , what is\was the plastic knob approx 1 in tall and slightly tapered to the top , kinda looks like a big cap off a toothpaste tube . I say was because when I was changing steer rack bushings I broke the thing off at the base where it attaches to the rack assey . A little embarrassed to admit my sloppy mech skills , oh well . It looks like it is old and brittle anyway . I saved it and can post a pic if no one knows what I'm refering to . Thanxz Chris
  7. Hey ,I thought you all might want to see what 37 years of performing hard looks like ! I knew when i started to dig into this front end I knew would find some driven parts , little did I know they where all still orig . This should answer some of the questions for those asking why there steering wheel shakes at speed on their early Z's . I've replaced using energy suspension in the black poly and with each new part the improvement is astounding the difference it makes . Pictured are old end links , strut rod bushings , steering coupler and sway bar frame bushing's ,soon to come ball joints from moog and lower control arm bushing from ES, tie rods then all will be new . I feel much safer now when I'm driving the Z ,Even the braking seems stronger . Can't wait for my new tokiko struts \springs, thats next week ! See ya Chris
  8. Here's the deal , it's all about attitude ,and these car's are all that ! they are absolute magnets and no one can resist the draw when there is one parked\driving anywhere ! I feel proud to pull up beside a high end car and watch someone look over to check out my ride , and it feels even better to know that I don't have to pay outrageous moneys to have my car repaired\tuned or otherwise .Long live the Z See ya fellow magnets Chris BTW , I know of only a couple of other early Z's in my community so we do tend to stick out !

Hi all , is there a quick an easy test for testing if the oil pressure sender is functioning properly . My problem is that my needle doesn't move at all .the temp gauge functions properly and I do seem to have all wires hooked up under dash at back of gauge . It has not worked since I purchased the car so , before I go to the parts store and spend again , can someone shoot me some advice ? Thanxz Chris

Hey . where my wife works in Banking they have a saying about some competitors , " they can throw mud at a wall all day and eventually some of it will stick '' . This person will sell that wheel\tire because a sucker is born every minute .I Recently posted a pic of a orig spare and IMO it is worth trade bait at best , certainly not 400 bones . I couldn't believe that auction as well ! Chris

thanks , I will look for that paint at my supplier , thats the way i think I'm going to go , great input . FWIW , Wick Humble has a formula for a match to original , Ditzler duracryl DDL 2862 argent with quite a bit of suede additive . Formula is , 1 pint DDL 200 units DX265 300 units DX264 Thin 100-150% and spray on fairly dry Thanx to Wick to be able to quote this formula . Chris

It happens to be what I have without a choice in matter , although if someone were to be build a trailer queen this would be a great addition .Food for thought. I do agree that I do need a new spare , until then I'm going to hope for the best and expect the worst . Hopefully I'm not hexing myself . Chris

Hey zhead240 ,my71 came with the factory spare in the wheel tub when I bought my car this past summer . It's a bridgestone and it doesn't look like it saw pavement at all . I'll post a pic or two . Chris

Bryan , my factory paint was the same 920-gold , around 20 years ago it was painted out black so that the car didn't look like a manila envelope blowing down the street ," this was the prior owners comment '' , personally I like the color .My spare tire\trunk area is still this shade and when I paint next year ,the paint in trunk area will stay the way it is . It is spotless and gives me a feeling of originality . If my pics posted , check out my gallery and you will see what I mean. Chris

Hey all , so whats the consensus with everyone , when painting taillight finishers do most people stay with stock paint or do they paint out a different color ?Mine are stock and in superb shape although I might consider something else . Is this considered sacrilegious , will I be chastised by fellow owners , maybe shot on site by purists ? Please give me some input . Thanxz Chris

I to will be doing my undercarriage this winter And from what I saw yesterday on my friends resto project Por-15 is the only way to go . I intend to follow the directions to the word as this was also the advice I received .My question to you all is ,the previous owners had done undercoating with gravel guard and now I need to remove this crap , what are my steps other than the obvious scrapping and wire wheel grinding . Is there some sort of solvent ? Thanks Chris'

Those are what I have on my car in the 14 in size , they work well and cleaned up good with sos pads and water , I then finished them ip with Eagle one wheel and tire cleaner , seem to work pretty good IMO .
  21. Evening all , I've just come in from installing new rack bushings and the job was a complete cakewalk . Wd-40 is your friend to loosen everything and then it was a simple matter of un-installing ,cleaning all the parts with carb cleaner then a generous spray of wd-40 on the rack itself where the bushing will slide in. I boiled some water then dropped the new bushings into the pan and let them heat up for maybe 5 mins then i greased them up right out of the hot water and slid them right in to place ,I quickly bolted them up to snug and then tightened them . These bushings are from Energy suspension ,Part #7.10101g specific to 70-73 . The end result is nothing short of amazing ,almost all frontend shimmy is gone .BTW , I also did the steering coupler ,As well Energy product ,Great stuff in black polyurethane . See ya Chris
  22. Hey , found my Z down a long driveway in Kelowna while touring this past summer , My wife and boys thought I was finally going off as this is what they expect ! 2800 $ later I drove home on the coquihalla with a grinning 15 year old beside me as he hopes next spring to be shifting gears around town. Thankfully the previous owner's kept good care of this original beauty . It has the typical problem areas , although it is only metal ,right .As jkr72 stated ,there is a great shop in surrey that is most helpfull . This car was sold in april 71 at Bridgeview motors in Kamloops and until now lived in the sunny Okanagen , now in the LML to play on the coast . See ya , Chris

Nice to meet ya Dave , I've read a lot of your info , my boys play your car on the X-box , they are helping me in the morning with the new rack bushings and they can't wait for Z ownership themselves . I will stay in touch with you , thanx for the welcome . BTW ,I didn't lurk for to long as I knew a good thing when I saw it . Glad to be aboard

Hey all , I'm Chris and again I'm back to my early days of Datsun ownership , but with a twist this time '' Internet community support '' . I've lurked for a while as most do , now it's time to join . As I navigate a bit more I will get a better feel of this site , so far it looks great ! I've owned a few Datsuns in my youth , 70 510 , 72 240 , b-210 can't remember year ,it was a fast back and another b-210 with a trunk ,the last two was very short term ownership . Now I own a 2002 Pathfinder and currently my baby is my new 71-240 .This I will own for eternity ! I've been busy doing a lot of upgrades to the old bushings on the front end and in a couple more weeks the struts\springs will be installed .This car is a beauty from the interior of Bc Canada with very little rust and is almost completely stock.I will post some pic's when I get this site figured out . Till then Chris
