  1. Anthony, you and your friends need to go to this, or get Dad to take you, a once in a lifetime event. http://classicmotorsports.net/events/mitty-2010/
  2. I'm 6'4" and the Z fits pretty nice. I will say there's something to be said for getting a decent seat with some good support which may mean getting yours redone or swapping in something newer. As for legroom, there's more than enough, the only challenge you may run into is how long your arms are proportionally and how far back you put the seat in order to have legroom plus headroom and still be able to reach the steering wheel comfortably etc.
  3. There's some goo dinfo here if you search for it, another place to check would be hybridz.org there's a post specifically about jetting your triples.

    How 'bout those Grizzlies baby!
  5. Dan Gurney
  6. Thanks for all the advice, I've got two links on order.
  7. Thanks Wing, the fusible link is toast so I will replace that and pray the battery is still good.
  8. Bought a new battery because I knew the old one was bad, tester at parts store confirmed it. Went out two days later in 30 degree weather to start and sure enough, started running the battery down trying to get the car to run, it would turn over but is notoriously cold blooded. Put the charger on it, set the amp output to 50 and continued the process. Every 2-3 cranks I would have to re-clip the clip from the battery charger on the terminals because they're just puny. After the fourth or fifth "jiggle the clips", no power. No power to run anything, no electric gas pump, lights, anything. Is it possible I arced it off the quarter panel? If so, do I only need to replace the fusible link? Don't need a lecture about cold weather ops, I knew it would be an uphill battle when I went out the door, I just need to know what else besides the fusible link could be the culprit, the electrical system is stock except for zsondabrain headlight wiring, zmanofwashington alternator with internal voltage regulator, aftermarket Motorsports fuse box and the L-28 starter/solenoid. Any home grown testing I can do to isolate the problem if it isn't the link? Thanks in advance, especially to those folks who do take their early Zs out in freezing weather.
  9. If push comes to shove you can drag it to Atlanta, John Williams has done wonderful things for my Z. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34996&highlight=john+williams
  10. So where in Southern NM, I was raised in Capitan?
  11. I wonder if it's a "He died and I'm cleaning out the garage" scenario?

All I can say is WOW!
  13. For better or for worse my assignment was cancelled, my daughter has some allergies and a homangioma (sp) the gaining medical facility was not interested in treating. Instead, I'll leave the family at home and go to Abu Dhabi for a year tax free the proceeds of which I may be able to put in to a paint job. I guess I can go to the F1 race there next year as a consolation prize.

Bummer about the transmission, I had the same thing happen to me and all it ended up taking was someone familiar with Z transmissions to pop the case, bang on one or two of the arms to free them up then back in the car, you may be able to recoup some of what you've spent on the replacement by selling the "busted" one. If you're running SUs do you have an electric fuel pump? The reason I ask is I had problems with vapor lock at higher elevations in Yellowstone (7K feet and higher). I want to say it's a lower trip through Cheyenne, Rock Springs and Salt Lake than through Denver over to Grand Junction. It may not even be an issue since it's not really warm anymore but I do know less oxygen makes my carbs work harder.

I would wonder about insurance, ro-ro also stands for roll on-roll over.
  17. Fusible links gave out in Jacksnville FL, had to be towed. After a hard rain I went out to continue a road trip in Des Moines IA and cracked the distributor cap, took about 4 hours to troubleshoot/fix.

I got lucky and picked up two last year on Okinawa, I haven't got the guts to try to assemble one...yet.
  19. Congrats Dave, well deserved
  20. You'd be the exception rather than the rule. While it is likely some percentage of individuals paid the difference in cash I would be surprised if they were a majority of buyers under C4C. Statistically Americans haven't saved much money in the last 30 years and they've gone into debt at a greater ratio than they've saved to boot. I can't imagine what the payout would be on a loan floated on a credit card either, the worst kind of legal debt imaginable. All the $4500 does is absorb the depreciation on the car when it gets driven off the lot, the majority of buyers will still end up with a car payment as well as the difference in insurance, hopefully the fuel economy will cover some of it. This was as much another $3 billion in TARP to lending institutions as it was an effort to get folks into debt to drive a Hybrid like the Goron does.
  21. I guess I'll have to be content to pay taxes and be grateful I don't have a car payment, I will look into getting a bumper sticker that says "I owe, I owe, so off to work I go".

    Didn't the Bionic Woman drive a 280Z?
  25. Insulation may help the vapor lock but I ended up putting a mechanical fuel pump in the engine compartment.
