Interesting flat-top book on CL?
Of all things anyone racing a 260Z in ITS might find it useful.

Schwing!!!
Maybe the seller believed everything the salesman told him at the dealership?

So... Is it worth what I paid???
You got a steal IMO with some great parts to make it a really sharp street car as well. Do you really want to have a V-8 with gas headed for $4 a gallon?

Thanks Stephen, I appreciate it.

Known problems with '80 5-speeds?
I knew the ratios were different but I was told the exterior cases were different as well, that's in large part why I asked. I may just try to get a T-5 rebuilt and swap them, keeping this one as a spare.

Known problems with '80 5-speeds?
How is the '80 5-speed different, or is it, from the 5-speeds in the '78-'79s or the '81-'83s?

Known problems with '80 5-speeds?
Got an '80 5-speed over a year ago when the 5-speed from a '78 gave up the ghost. I had problems getting it to go in to second and I'm curious if there are any known reliability problems with the 5-speeds out of the 80 model year. I checked he reservoir and it's full. I'm going to check the gear shift to see if it needs to be tightened etc. Last resort short of the transmission is the clutch slave cylinder...I'd really hate to eat another transmission after only about a year.

Comming from a Miata to a Datsun Z, what am I getting myself into?
Here's a thread that starts to answer some of your questions. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29907&highlight=280z As for a forum with step by step instructions that doesn't really exist but you usually will find multiple threads on many types of common repairs by using the search function. As for manuals I'm biased towards the Haynes manual but, depending on what year Z you end up with, the factory service manual may be online or could be gotten off of EBay.

Big bore SU experience?
If I go the big bore route, I'll be asking John Williams in Atlanta to do the mod. I'm going to ask him if he would grind the needles to get what he wanted from the carbs.
