Balancing and blueprinting...what are they doing?
I appreciate the responses. When the guy rebuilt my engine he offered both and said the balancing was a must if we were going to the effort of rebuilding and the blueprinting would be better considered a nice to have. I'm sure I'll have the engine rebuilt at some point and will be able to pay more but I've always wondered what I gave up in order to save a few bucks and what the likelihood would be that it would come back to bite me in the arse. The guy who rebuilt the engine did an excellent job as far as I can tell but I'm a novice when it comes to the deeper mechanical aspects of the car. I won't even begin to second guess the folks who decide what gets blocked and what doesn't. If I delved into that world my melon would overflow and something important would be lost like how to walk or brush my teeth!

Balancing and blueprinting...what are they doing?
Uhh dogma420...I'd love to go to Google but the system I have access to blocks it as well as every other search engine probably because of the advertising wiseass. I'm deployed for 120 days and I wouldn't recommend it unless you really like your earth tones as that's all this experience is "good for". Thanks for the hastings link, now that's useful information!

Balancing and blueprinting...what are they doing?
Had my engine rebuilt 7 years ago and asked that it be balanced but not blueprinted if for no other reason than I didn't know what it meant and didnt want to pay for it. (Balancing sounded important, blueprinting sounded like a luxury) What exactly is involved and what are the benefits to be gained for future reference?

So I visited RockyAuto Japan...
Have an S30 in Japan is purely a luxury not unlike an exotic. Not too many of them around and not too many owners willing to risk denting them in atrocious traffic or on the track. They are beautiful examples though, pity there aren't more of them around.

Gas for $1.98 a gallon here!
Yeah, I saw on the BBC today where the NHS dental program is going down the tubes. They can't seem to tax working Britons enough to make the rest of the system work. I also saw the tax on hybrids. Wrote it off to being the difference between having a Repub versus a Dem in th White House. At least the Z is paid for and filling it up isn't too terribly expensive.

Gas for $1.98 a gallon here!
Where is the missing press hub-bub over gas going under $2 a gallon? That would be news in my book considering where it went and the outcry over refinery capacity.

Gas for $1.98 a gallon here!
After the Katrina insanity I never thought it would go under $2 again. (Maybe that's what a few folks wanted me to believe when it hit $3.26) So what is everyone else eating for a gallon of gas compared to two months ago? Something else to be thankful for?

Matte black trim ?'s
Thanks for the link and the pic. I guess I'll give a shot at painting it,

Matte black trim ?'s
I've read the chrome painting method posts but could't find any on using some kind of tape for the window frames. I've seen Z's with the chrome painted and I've seen them with some kind of matte black electrician's tape looking stuff applied which I would prefer to do. Has anyone done the tape method? Recommendations...ideas?

Datsun vs. Chevy

The camaro lacks classic styling and isn't even a sports car. For 20 years the L-series engine was second to the 350 in terms of popularity for modifying and upgrades.- Z Cars at the ARRC '05
So how were the races?- NISMOfest at FISCO next month

I'm not offended in any way by what Morton wrote. Nissan designed and built the car to ride better than you might think a sports car would. Didn't the first one end up a racer with BRE or Bob Sharp because a model sat on the hood or the roof and bent it? That would be more damning in my book than building a car that had a soft ride, especially when the competition was like riding in an oxcart.- 240zg_policecar
Saw one of these screaming down the Expressway on Okinawa in 1982. It was chasing a pair of Skylines that had raced by a minute or two prior. It didn't have a G-nose though. Now they use the V-8 Toyotas on the Expressways.- White Guage Face Opinions? Ricey?
I'm with you on that. I think of the 240-260-280 as rice from a different era. I will say though I've met more muscle car fanatics who like the early Zs than Honda Civics tricked out.- Buying used Weber DGVs
In my experience the su's performance overall was preferable to the DGV's The Webers were great for mileage, but a good set of tuned and maintained su's is tough to beat for performance unless you go to triples. - Datsun vs. Chevy
