  2. Looks like some of the extras vehicles from "The Road Warrior". No better, no worse.
  3. When you live on top of each other, your car becomes one of your few outlets to be able to personalize and "express" yourself. I think it looks goofy too until I see what teenagers are doing to Hondas in the States.
  4. You gotta stick with the 6 if you want to show the V-8 muscle crowd you're a serious contender. Look on EBay, there are a lot of things you can do for $100 here and there that go along way towards improving the performance of the engine. The second reality of your situation is that it probably won't happen overnight. You're fighting an uphill battle with an older car against newer technology. It can be won, but you have to be patient and persistent and work on one thing at a time. I would also look at how the car is running now, is it in tune, are the carbs adjusted properly, does it need a tune up, simple stuff you can fix with $20-$50.

I pity the person who buys it because I don't think there's anyone out there who could resuscitate this project unless they were dying to get that VIN'd Z.

This poor guy must have gotten a copy of Bill Reagan's "How to restore your Z-car" a couple of years ago. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4542667755&category=7251#ebayphotohosting
  7. I've experienced more muscle car fanatics who respect Z's than other foreign sports cars. When you go to a car show, if someone asks I'd rather tell them I came in a Z than in a Triumph or a Celica. They don't like "furun crap", but Z's seem to be somewhat acceptable.

There's gotta be $75 worth of parts on it though, even if the car is suffering from exposure to "mullet engineering".
  9. Just enjoy your ride. That's what it was meant to do for you. There will always be those who envy how much you enjoy your Z.

Dude, get one of your family members to put you in for an episode of "Overhaulin" or "Pimp my Ride". I'm hoping they'll do a Z one of these days. You get a hot new restored Z on someone else's dime, what could be better?

It seems to me like there's been better deals on full sets of Watanabe's before, you just have to be patient.
  12. I don't know man, the Audi TT styling looks horrible compared to the 350. Hoodline's way too high, roofline's too low. Looks like a classic depressed German male design team came up with something to horrify their Italian counterparts with. The 350 has much more graceful lines, and performs better, for less money. It never was going to be a retro 240, but it just might be great styling and performance and all at a great price, like some other Datsun sports car I've heard of. If you really don't like the design, thank your counterparts who drive 300Z's. The designer from Nissan said he tried to combine the styling cues from the 240Z and the latest 300Z's to come up with the 350.

when cold, or when i honk on the throttle, the little devil seems to backfire through the carbs. had this same problem when I had dual weber setup. any ideas?
  15. Don't feel bad if you like them. i wonder if they are from that conversion kit you used to be able to buy to turn an early model Z into a 250GTO lookalike? They seem somewhat bland to me, but I am in ove with the traditional look, so just "Enjoy the ride" whatever the tail may look like. As these cars get older, it's less a function of how the lights look as it is how well they work! PS Where is Forest Grove? If you ever think you're having a bad day, I'll trade places with you. There's a lot of beautiful country in Oregon.

okay, it isn't a brand new 5-speed. It came out of some variety of 280. If it isn't the shifter not being able to make the throw, what could it be in the transmission, and am I looking at a rebuild, or a new transmission?

have a '73 240 with an L-28 and a new 5-speed. Runs through 1-4 just fine, but will slip out of 5th after 5-10 seconds unless I hold the shifter in place. have just replaced the clutch master and slave cylinder. Any ideas?
