Help with headlights
for those still following this post...i found the problem!. the large spade ground wire under the combo switch harness connectors (top of steering collumn under ignition lock cylinder) wasn't properly connected. the male spade was slid in between the outter female receiver, and the clear insulation 'boot' of the spade connection, thereby giving intermittent contact.

Help with headlights
thanks for the input guys. I have the FSM from a '76, and am pretty good with a meter and a wrench. the '76 wiring is the same as the '77, according to what i'm looking at in the schematic and on the car 9i tried to download a '77 FSM, but my computer kept crapping out, got the '76 FSM easily) . there are no relays for the headlights. i was able to trace all of the wires except after the fuse box through the firewall (i didn't want to cut the loom's tape that holds it all together). where all the large harness connectors join. a local guy mentioned that the CA cars have an orange sticker on the ECU. is this true? mine is orange/brown-ish. also, i have the dash out, but re-installed the harness, just so everything is hooked up. the lights worked fine with the dash out, and all ancilliary lights work. then yesterday, the headlights just quit. i also cleaned all fusable link contacts, headlight sockets and connectors inside engine compartment. also note that the car is original and unmolested...very stock, no birds nests of wire anywhere. thanks

mystery part '77 280
it does work. i have two leads going to the knob. one is a fused line from the fuse box. the other is switched power to the compressor (blue line). the copper 1/16" tube goes into the evaporator housing somewhere...i just got the car a few weeks ago. the only time i tried it was in october when we had a warm day. the discharge from the compressor was cold compared to other body metal/parts. i ran it today to peek at the site glass. i did check the FSM re: bubbles in there, etc. i'll get it serviced in the spring.

Help with headlights
'77 280. stock. conducted continuity and voltage checks on steering column combo switch =OK. headlights themselves(taken off car) =OK, fusible links =OK. fuse box fuses, front contacts and rear of fuse box panel =OK. both sockets for the lamps are dead. i do notice that the wires leaving the fuse panel are red with yellow stripe (normal driving lamp), and solid red (hibeam), yet the wires at the socket (pass side) are red with black stripe. is there a splice i'm missing? from the fuse block to the socket there doesn't seem to be anymore splices (or harnesses) in the large main loom going through the firewall. any help is appreciated.

mystery part '77 280
interesting as mine has the dealer A/C knob below the dash, but isn't hooked to it. the A/C system works, yet needs a charge by viewing through collectors' the site glass. thanks.

mystery part '77 280
found this thing under the dash, not hooked up. was wondering if had anything to do with a datsun-factory A/C system.
