need lowering springs ideas
im looking for springs that handle good in street and some performence. my 78 280z right now has about 4 inches from tire to fender on back and almost six in front. have tokico shocks infront and replaced back with monroe. i want the ride to be a little stiffer, what brand are good without killing my wallet. this are temparery till i save enough to go all adjustable.

efi to carb swap?
I decided to not get the engine and fix what ever is wrong on mine.I usually fix my own cars but this is driving me crazy, hopefully mike Z at the shop goes easy on the price. I eventually will swap the engine to an l28et

Your right sblakeo1 I have been having problems with my z lately.cause of taxes I have some money to burn,I was going to take my car down to mikeZshop in Whittier.then came across this post.I was already saving for some upgrades Before the car problems started, it's funny how when I have money problems start.I been wanting more power for the z and I guess now that it's not running right that post looked good.

This is what he put 1978 datsun 280z 2.8 rebuilt engine has the 4 barrel holley conversion flat top pistons a cam made by americam not shure wat lift the head is rebuilt also and ported by l&r enginering comes with a msa header 5 speed trans and a centerforce racing clutch this motor was rebuilt about 3 years ago its been sitting in my garage for 2 1/2 years already i whent with a v8 conversion

I'm going to see the engine 2morrow but in his post it says it an l28 with ported head,cam, headers and carb set to a single holley carb. The engine has less than 3000 miles on it.that the only discription he has on it.

i want to buy a complete 2.8 carbed engine to swap with my efi l28.what would i need to run that engine on my car. so far i know i have put a different fuel pump. what else?my z is a78

Rough idle
The start up problem is new but the other one has been for a while now. It starred with the same problem as pomorza. Then the car would only start if it was warm outside, then eventually to now how I discribed at my "stomp" post.

This also happends to my z. Exactly the same. The only difference is that I have problems starting it.the starting problem recently happend but before that this was the only issue,and still is when I drive it.comparing post is giving me an idea of my issue.

I was actually driving back from the gas station, the car had half a tank . Before the hill I was crusing at about 15 mph never passed 25.the car was running fine 15 min into the ride, I pulled up to a stop and the made a left into the hill. The cars didn't even fully enter the hill before it died(about 45 degree climb).the car studdered and died.

Today I took it out the car to drive it after a week no use. I charged the battery and hour earlier to be able to start it. It eventually turn on but about ten min into the drive I went up a steep hill and the car just died. I got it down to the level street and the car would start but died soon after. I eventually killed the battery from turning it so much, so I had someone jump the car and after about 10 turns it eventually it started. I'm replacing the battery because I'm pretty sure after lots of charging and jumpings is not as good anymore.what do you guys think went wrong

I guess I might as well replace the injectors now, any way I don't know how long they been there. This guy is selling new nismo 280z injectors for 230 the set.(worth it)?

The car will not start if you just turn the key.one day I left it with the key on ON position for a while without turning it then the car started right up. If I do this most times it works.once the car is on it has a strong gas smell until it warms up. I heard the injectors can also be bad by giving to much gas

My 78 280z is not Able to turn on unless I leave the key on ON for a while then try it. My injectors seem to make a spraying sound for a few seconds everytime I turn the key. That's if I don't leave the key on ON first. Can anybody give me ideas.

77 L28 setup advise
I want to build a mild setup for my 280z, hope you guys can give me ideas and examples on your setups. I was thinking using my l28 with mild cam,ported head and swapping efi to carb. I heard many ideas for the head and cams, I was hoping to get some actual setups from ppl running them.

Wow. Youre right it's not flat at all. It was a 432R.I don't want no ricer look or nothing like that, just a clean similar look to the 432R. I have a 10% gloss black mesh grill an Also the rear lights.

just bought a new hood to switch with mine. I want to have my stock color and a black hood. The car just recently got painted viper red but I want the flat black hood. The problem is that I want to powder coat it and don't know what flat or % to go for. Does anyone have a similar hood and what do u recommend.

Yeah ran it , and filled the water while running until it filled up.

Couldn't believe it but the water pump was in perfect condition. Still replace it, ran it for a while with no problems. Even though it seem to not overheat the water does not flow as it should. Would the radiator be bad?.

I just turned the car on and let the car warm up. The thermostat open but the water wasn't flowing like it should. By the way on my original post I forgot to mention that on the way home I heard a loud POP sound that now I pretty sure it's the water pump.any ideas.

Just changed the fluids,radiator cap and thermostat. I will run the car tomorrow and post up resolts . Stay tuned for update

I usually don't drive my z for long drives, but today was a nice warm day.I drove from Los Angeles to San Fernando valley and back with no resting time in between. On the way back I caught traffic, in total about 1 1/2 hours of driving at about 90 degree weather.when I got home I parked the and turned off the car. Once I got off I heard a sizzeling sound and noticed coolent coming out of the front bumper.the coolent was coming out of the resivour, I waited till it cooled down and checked the water. The radiator was a little low from all the coolent that rushed into the resivour.how can I tell if it's the thermostat, head gasket, water pump and why did it overheat.

Won't start in the mornings only
It will turn over, but just won't start even if I give it gas. The first two or three turns of keys the car starts but shuts off right away. If I keep on doing it I eventually drain the battery

That's what I'm thinking , may be the coldstart.and before I used to drive it all the time it may be it's way of telling me to drive it more often
