hard starting 240
I'd check the choke lines to be sure one of them hasn't slipped out of the holder and is holding the choke in on one of the carbs. Also, check the linkage between the carbs... the springs especially. Just thinking here.

240z ignition points problem
hmmmm, Reminds me of a problem I had with my first 240 back in 1985. (22 years ago... sheesh I'm getting old) It turned out to be a cracked cap on the ignition coil. It was arc'ing to the frame. My father spotted it because it was getting late in the day and was getting dark. A little tale tell sign of a small blue arc. Anyway, just food for thought.

Starting a restoration of a 240Z. Advice?
Thanks both for the great advice. Unfortunately I dont have the space for a 'POS' car. Somehow I'll figure out how all the pieces fit back together. Small update: After giving it a bit of a tune up today, it started coming back to me. Oh, did I mention the sound, smell and vibration of the car gave me a little bit of a 'warm fuzzy' in the back of my mind? woot

Floor Boards - Please give me your opinions!
The floorboards in my Z are in better shape, but if I was to have them replaced, what should I expect to pay?

Howdy
I think the best part will be the horror of uncovering the worst problems and fixing them. Does that make me twisted? I think that will be the best part. I intend to push this metal to the very edge of its ability. Ok maybe thats a bit over the top. maybe

Do you think your car had Led Zeppilin played in it?
Is this a trick question? Every single 240Z has had one song coming out of it at a certain moment. Anyone who hasnt rolled down his windows while taking a fast winding road down a steep mountain while listening to Misty Mountain Hop is a communist.

Starting a restoration of a 240Z. Advice?
I just bought a 1973 240Z all stock except for a 5speed. I plan on striping it down to the metal inside and out, but leaving the mechanical alone (except for a tune up) for now. Any advice about how to look for a good body shop for this kind of work? Sincerly, AggieZ

The funny thing was... about the tach... I didnt need it. Driving this car was like ol' hat. Above 2200 rpm, the roughness smoothed out and could hear it starting (albiet roughly) starting to purr. The 5 speed was a little different and a little tighter than the original 4speed, which of course I liked. I didnt need the tach... I knew the rpm by listening. Just ol' memories comming back. I'm certain of it. I'm glad I bought this car.

Since I dont have a digital camera atm, I'm gonna link the sale site which has pics. The seller was honest about minimal rust (except for the floor boards which I expected anyway, and my first 240Z had worse floorboards back in the mid 80's) It ran rough but not terrible. The tach does not work. I drove it at 55 mph and it was straight as an arrow without any vibration. It has a 5speed which surprised me. I plan on striping this down to the metal inside and out and I will have to replace both front fenders and the cowl. I think the cancer is not too deep. The seller did throw in a new drivers side door, headers, an extra set of carbs, and a right side fender. All in all, it was a fair deal and im happy I have taken the plunge. :nervous: and  http://houston.craigslist.org/car/489810471.html

Coupe Or 2+2
Hmmmm. Never liked the 2+2 look. The body just looks too long for me. The only thing I would think of doing with a 2+2 would be to shorten the doors and put suicide doors on for the back seat. Hmmmm, has that ever been done? Just wondering.

New to the forum. Bought a 1970 240z. Told you guys would like it.
$200 bucks and drove it home? Thats very good. If the guy was asking 2 grand, I would have made him knock it down to 1 grand just because he put crushed velvet seat covers and door panels in there.

I just bought a 1973 240Z and just registered here. Its a restoration project car. Years ago I owned a 1971 Z and loved it. I swear I'm not having a mid-life crisis I know the 240Z's fairly well as I did a lot of work on my first 240Z. (including rebuilding the engine personally). I loved the way my old Z drove and have been waiting for a few years now until my financial situation improved to buy another one. In a few weeks I will begin the restoration process. I have been reading the forum threads here as others have posted their restoration experiences and I will do the same. I intend to keep this Z for a while so I will be puting some time, money, sweat and tears into it. I am hopefull this will be a rewarding experience, if not too much fun. AggieZ
