Come on folks-show your patriotism. Do your patriotic duty and get into the four figure categories. Help get the economy rolling again. Of course, if you are not paying attention you will be supporting the economies of China, Japan, Guatemala, Thailand, etc., etc.
  2. Xargon-glad to hear that your are interested. There was a very feeble start to get something going back in July. Some guys expressed an interest. I volunteered to set up the forum site and a contact list but did not want to be responsible for getting some activities going. Nobody volunteered for that. Perhaps in the spring. Paul
  3. Ouch! You say it was bad luck? Ex girlfriend? Are you sure she was not aiming for you?

I agree with you 100% about keeping the original hubcaps and they would come off if not in good condition. I would check the condition of the grippers (tines?). Bend any back into shape that need it. I do not know if locks for these things are available.

UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Watch it Hunt, don't get involved in the media question. Almost too big an opening to pass by though.

Go for it. Yellow is beautiful. My Z is yellow as is my '79 Ford P.U. And look at my user name backwards.

Portland area Z owners. I am glad Beandip is kicking what I thought was a dead horse. Some sort of gathering would be great. I would prefer east side if possible. I have been maintaining an email address list and could send out a message when details are set. Our forum in "Local Club Forums" would be a good place to communicate. The forum name is PDX-Z.:classic:

Stevenson, WA about midway through the Columbia River Gorge; about 35 miles east of Portland. Wife, dog, two cats, Camry, Taurus, '72 Z. Guess what I prefer to drive! Going on 66 but don't feel a day over 65ROFL . Bean dip--you are definitely a geezer but not the oldest fella in geezerdom. Paul
  9. Thanks. I had also looked for that thread but was unable to find it.

Joking about double clutching into reverse, of course Will check out some of these tips soon, sort of busy now. Thanks
  11. I occasionally see rubber end caps for the rear bumper on eBay. Are these stock for a 11/71 car or are they after market add on?

My problem is getting it into reverse with the engine running--guess I will learn how to double clutch it in to reverseROFL ROFL

It's a 11/71 Z with the original 4 speed. Very difficult to get into reverse with the engine running (grinds) but goes in fine with it off. Goes in once in awhile. Down shifting into the forward gears is no problem although going into 1 isn't always smooth. I want to keep the car a 4 speed. Rebuild this one? Get a junkyard special and hope for the best? Future problems with other gears as the problem worsens? Slave cylinder? Fluid level o.k. In the Portland, OR area is there a shop that will do a good rebuild on this tranny? Thanks

An important question to answer for yourself is: were you made to feel welcome? Many (all?) of the people you met were, at one time, where you are with your car. Except for the 350's, all (unless purchased new and kept in pristine condition) of the cars that are so beautiful were the result of many hours, years of hard work and devotion and the club atmosphere is a really good place to show off the results of that hard work. Just as with this site, the people in your club will be a wealth of information and help. Use the resourses available from your club-your car will be sparkelling and parked with the best of them one of these years and you will be giving advice to the new guy who drives up with a 100 foot car. We have a fledgling club here in the Portland, Oregon area whose membership will range from one guy, who contributes regularly here, who works on rolling shell to members with some really hot, finnished cars. I had similiar thoughts about the 350 as well but they are all Z's. Some of these 350 owners may just have a 240 parked in their garage.

Home. I do not mean to rub it in but---After reading the newspaper, doing the crossword puzzle and getting my coffee half done I will moesy up to the puter and log in to this site to see what gems of wisdom are available. Then to mow the lawn, brush the dog, drink more coffee, work in the garden, check for words of wisdom, take a joy ride in the Z, open up my bee hives, check for words of wisdom, have a beer, ---- What a tedious life. I actually throw some volunteer work into the mix and help care for my wife's mother who lives with us. She has Alzimer's. Driving the Z is a tonic.

The guy I bought my '72 from in 1991 was the original owner. He kept it pretty straight. The cover is plastic.

We have a fledgling club sort of organized. PDX-Z. I will be maintaining a email address list for awhile. Those of you who have not received email notification of the club, please PM me with your email address if you wish. Or go to Local Car Club forums and look for PDX_Z Club. Eventually that is where the scoop will be. We are hoping to get something going in July: picnic, drive-in, etc. Always looking for suggestions to make this successful. Also looking for someone to take the helm.

A nephew or mine buys and sells marbles-mostly buys. Some of the sellers charge up to $10.00 ship one marble!! If he wins a marble he has bid on, he sends the seller a mailer with return postage prepaid along with his payment. This can save him $8.00. Once in awhile a seller will complain to him but they really have no choice but to use his mailer.

If you go to my post "Vinyl Top" you will find a description and a picture of a 1971. My question is: in Oz how many days (or minutes?) from the time this car hit the papers in an ad in a city the size of Adelaid would it be sold? $$$?

I am in Portland a lot and will keep an eye open for your car. Go Ducks! I am sure you will let us know when it is found. Good luck.

    Bumps under vinyl top
  22. ZwolleY replied to ZwolleY's post in a topic in Body & Paint
Here is a picture of the '71 I looked at in Portland today (the one with the vinyl top). Anyone know this car? HLS30-24871 not registered on Zhome. Mfg. date 3/71. 146,000 miles. Rust hole in left rocker panel and bubbles on the right side. 5 speed. Numbers match although I could not make out the number on the block. Spare tire well and under batt tray look clean. Floor pans and frame rails look good also although I could not get under the car. Needs weatherstripping around the doors, wet floor mat on right side. Needs floor mats all around and upholstery. Dash is near perfect. No large cracks and did not see any small ones, which might be there. New tires. $2,500.00. Next picture shows bubbles under the vinyl top on the leftside; fewer bubbles on the right. Clean engine compartment. Round tops. I have more photos and a phone number if you want to PM me.

I get the picture. Nice imagry, Victor
  24. ZwolleY posted a post in a topic in Body & Paint
I will be looking at a '71 tomorrow that has a vinyl top. The owner says that there are 4 or 5 bumps under the vinyl that he suspects are rust from water leaking in, although he said that there were no cracks or splits in the material. Sounds like a risky proposition. Any way to check out the condition under the vinyl without ripping it off? Or is this a buyer beware situation?

I recovered my seats with a MSA kit and it did have the grain pattern in the middle areas. It fits very nice. I also added some foam for lumbar support and some hd foam in the butt area. Do reweb at the same time-saves lots of hassle later.
