Thanks for the video super helpful! I only have one pinch looks OEM you can see it at the 5sec mark. Nothing really looks like its been taken off or rebuild before. Gaskets all looked original as well. But I see how different your configuration looks compared to mine. I will take a better video tonight and also get the front of the case on see if that changes anything. Based on how the gear oil looked inside I have to believe this was ran before I got it and I would assume if it was in the wrong way reverse would have caused an issue to the point you wouldn't drive the car very far unless the previous owner only went forward for miles and miles. Oil and the magnetic drain plug's shavings that were on it looked like the trans had ran for a while on the oil inside.

Yeah all the balls and springs are installed still. All i did was remove the cases to swap a new rear case in since it was damaged in shipping. Nothing else was done to the trans that i was told. It all looked original from what I took it apart based on the gasket seal around the cases. I never ran the trans I got it about a year ago and had been looking for a case half for about a year. I finally found one and this is where I am at now haha.

Ohhh okay yeah sorry I knew them as dogs. Glad we are talking about the same thing. I agree they do slide around a little bit, but unlike 1-4 gears the config is different and there is no syncro on the Reverse side of the dog holding as close. So I assume the play is a little bit normal? And yeah your might be right on the front cover aspect I plan to test that here this weekend if I catch up to some free time.

Sorry I'm not 100% sure what you mean by shift incerts? You mean the keys inside the gear that move back and forth?

Right but my fear is with reverse getting stuck and not coming back out unless thing are aligned right. Regardless i think your right with the idea being I am probably making much from not much

When it's in nuetral it moves about one tooth width forward or backward depending on the position it was left in.

I am in the middle of swapping the case on my 5speed 83 trans I decided to shift things by hand and inspect syncros make sure everything looked okay before put it back together. I have never used this trans so I am only going off of the fact the PO said it was good. I noticed that when shifting into reverse it gets stuck unless I rotate the input shaft counterclockwise in order for the little keys to grab the syncros to put them into place then it will let me shift out just fine. If i am not mistaken the input shaft always rotate clockwise? I have never taken a datsun trans before so I am a little new to the internals work. I assume what I am seeing is normal but I figure I should ask before i put it all together only to find I have an issue.

Just watch craigslist like a hawk. I found my 280z for 1800. It an automatic and is need of the normal interior repair and has a single stage repaint paint job(original color was light blue). Frame 100% solid not even a spec of rust on the frame. Battery tray area did rust out a bit however. Outside of that no rust just some normal door dings and stuff like that. Car wasn't running 100% when I got it. It started and idled okay, but if you tried to drive it, it would die turns out needed new AFM as someone had opened up the original one and probably messed with it. The previous owner told me he wanted 1900 and would not take a penny less and if i tried to offer him any less he would walk away. Car was 4 hours away rented a trailer and told the guy I had his money and 1900 as asked he said I should have haggled a little bit felt bad and gave me $100 back lol. I already felt like I was getting it for a killer deal no idea why he wanted to sell the car for so little. Still needs lots of renovation and work but its a great car to restore from. They are around just have to watch Craigslist and wait for the right chance.

I have a fresh new Gt3071 turbo. Brand New Garett CHRA from ATP turbo not a rebuild. Its a brand new unit I have paper work as well if you want to see that. In other words the only used parts on the turbo is the housings both exhaust and intake housings are used. They are in great condition as well. I know its a long shot but: Long story short I received a transmission with a damaged rear case. I am looking to see if anyone happens to have broken trans and would like to sell me their rear case. I have a 82/83 manual transmission. I'm not 100% sure if any 5 speed case would work but with enough pictures we can probably figure that out let me know what you have thanks.
