Where does this wire go from the AFM?
Thanks Trykflyr. You mentioned that "It should run from the AFM". I do not see a wire FROM the AFM at all.. only there is that wire that is attached to the AFM mount bracket. Where should the wire FROM the AFM originate? Maybe that would answer my question.. I appreciate you guys trying to help.

Where does this wire go from the AFM?
Thanks, but I think you misunderstood my question. I agree.. It should be grounded.,, however, where should the wire that is connected to the base come from. Right now there is just a wire hanging from the base of the AFM and I don't know what connects to it.? sorry if I am confusing

Painting the radiator
I have a 75 280z and wanted to paint the radiator. Has anyone painted the radiator before? Can I use the engine paint or do I have to use a special paint for radiators only? What about the fins? Can that be painted as well.?

Oil Pressure sender wiring
sblake01, I apologize. you are right. The oil pressure sending unit has only 1 terminal with a harness that plugs to it. The plug is connected to the terminal and has the yellow/black and black wire. The wire is cut. There is a green wire that sticks out from the wiring harness. These two sets of wires were never connected. Do you think I have a pressure sender from a 78? Should a 75-77 only have one wire from the wiring harness to plug into the terminal on the sending unit.?

Oil Pressure sender wiring
ok.. I looked further. The sending unit has 2 wires coming out of it.. a yellow/black and a black wire. There is a green wire coming from the harness. I looked at the wiring diagram and it shows only a black wire going to the sending unit. anybody?

What is this part on my cat?
I have a 1975 280z, california car. I pulled the exhaust out and noticed that I have some sort of sensor attached to my catalytic converter. Is that a floor temp sensor.? If I took the catalytic converter out and replaced with a straight pipe, would that pose a problem with the engine performance? In other words, does that sensor attached to the catalytic converter have anything to do with the air fuel ratio? How would I know if my catalytic converter is original? If it is, should it be worth something?

Rustoleum engine bay
Can I use rustoleum Protective Enamel over old paint? OR should I apply the Automotive Primer spray first? I have attached the enamel and primer in question. I wanted to paint the engine bay as well as the body but there is still the old paint. Can I just sand a little of the old paint and apply the primer and enamel or do I have to strip to bare metal?

Please help me identify and connect this correctly
Webdawg1, Thanks for the diagram. This should help me get started in figuring out how the lines are to be connected. hls30. Thanks. I do have the ac, heater, defroster. I noticed that some of the vaccum hoses were broken or completely missing. I would like to use my ac eventually once I have the car running.

Transmission Swap_what can I use?
Thanks Arne. Your feedback is appreciated. One question, is the speedo drive gear from a 4 speed different than a 5 speed.? What is the reason for moving the drive gear from the 4speed to the 5 speed?

Transmission Swap_what can I use?
Hello, I have a 1975 Datsun 280Z with a stock L28 engine (N42). I just bought a 5 speed transmission from a 280ZX. I am not sure which year. Can I still use the starter that is attached to my 4speed trans on the 5speed trans? Or is there a different starter that works only on the 5 speed trans.? What other details should I worry about when I swap from the 4 speed trans. to the 5 speed? Thanks.

Which year is this cylinder head/engine block from?
Thanks Blake. Your suggestion about about resurfacing the head and putting in a new gasket seems more reasonable at this point. Is there a way to identify which year my block is from with the number stamp of # L28 179109? Are they the same for all L28s?

Which year is this cylinder head/engine block from?
I have a 1975 280Z that I bought not too long ago. I thought I had the original engine but as I am learning more about the car, I came to find out that both the engine and tranny are not original. I looked at the numbers stamped on the cyldinder head and engine block and this is what is stamped. Cylinder Head: N47 Engine Block: 179109 I could not find anything on the Chilton Manual as to which year these are from. Can someone tell me which year the cylinder head and engine block are from? I blew the head gasket. I was told that the N42 head was more desirable. Should I just buy an engine that matches my year or just rebuild this? Is the combination that I have now reliable?. I will be using this as a daily driver. Is there anything special/unique that I should know about my engine? I look forward to your responses.

1975 280Z engine questions
Thanks Fellas, I think I will start with assuming that the valves and rings are gunked up.. and begin by cleaning those out first. ..followed by a valve adjustment and then do the compression test and see if there is still oil going down the chamber and soaking up the plugs. This is gonna be a looong weekend. Thanks again. This forum is very helpful.
