  1. Thanks for input Tom. I plan on lubing the linkages as well as doing the bellcrank. I may just take the bellcrank pieces to a shop and let them weld it into position. I hope my motor mounts are good. Thanks for that tip!
  2. I have a 72 with the surging accelerator problem. I got a new bellcrank and throttle rod so I could perform this modification. I'm not a welder and was wondering how anyone else has done this mod without welding? It looks like I can use my Dremel and saw the arm off the weld but I'm not sure how I would attach a washer to the bellcrank. Attaching the arm to the washer I can see, but I don't see what I would screw to with the washer. Any ideas?
  3. I'm 1/47 of that watch list.
  4. I wish it were that easy. We checked those bolts and bushings in the mustache bar as well. I believe the last thing he wanted to tell me was my diff was bad.
  5. He doesn't rebuild differentials. He said he would send that out to a shop that will rebuild it for $800. I know a used diff may not be better but I can probably pick a used one up for 25% of that price. I examined the strap and it seemed very solid and in place and the insulator was replaced. With a pry bar there was little to no movement anywhere in the rear end.
  6. I ended up taking my car to a Z mechanic that just opened shop here a few months ago and he seems to be very good. I took my car there to be inspected the other day and we got it up on the lift and looked her over really well and she looks good! I had him replace the front diff mount this morning and it still clunks. He took off the drive axles and they look good and the clunk seems to be coming from the rear center. He thinks there seems to be some play in the diff. I'm looking at buying a used diff and letting him put it in. The car drives fine but I want it to be perfect I guess. I even read somewhere today that early Z's sometimes had diffs with play and they clunked a little when new. This was noticed in some cars. Don't know if that's true but I can't believe someone would accept a clunk like this for 30+ years! Anyway I'll probably replace the diff seeing how the insulator is new, the strap looks good, drive axles look good and rear mounts look good. He did have a bulletin for later Z's that said the stub axles could be a source of clunk but he thought the play in the diff was the more likely culprit. Sound plausible?

Thanks for the tips. I'm hoping I can brace up the headliner where it's still attached and glue the rest up and roll it out.

My headliner is in good shape but sagging in the front a bit. How would that be attached? Any special glue that holds it that I would need to get to reattach it? If I could re-glue it is this a tough job to do?

Great looking car Paul! I'm looking at getting those wheels for my car too. What size are they? BTW, did those unregistered Z cars in the warehouse ever pan out?

  14. Ressurecting this old thread to see if anyone knows a place I can get one or who might have one of these. I want to get another throttle rod to fix the jerky throttle response in my 72 240Z. This is the rod that connects to the lever coming off the firewall that runs parallel to the firewall. Reading the old posts about the "aggressive acceleration" I believe this describes my car. There are a couple of changes described but shortening this rod and making the lever at a shallower angle seems to fix this problem. I just want to have a second set so I can have a stock set in case it doesn't work. I would also like to get the linkage as pictured here describing the fix. If anyone has a set please let me know!
  15. I don't see that part on my drawings. Is that the piece that is above the differential?
  16. Ok, my new Z runs great! It's a 72 and I just drove it 1500 miles home and it runs amazing but I did notice a few cosmetic items and one big "clunk" when shifting gears. It appears from searching the posts here this would most likely be the front diff mount needing replacement. I haven't checked it under the car yet but I have reviewed the manuals and I can't find anything in detail about replacing this part. Is it as easy as removing the crossmember below it and unbolting it from the front of the diff? I would assume I could suuport the diff with a floor jack but does anything else need to be removed? Is this pretty staright forward? Thanks!

I'm sure there are some here, but as far as the non-ZX models I haven't seen a one.

I made it all the way home without a hitch! Almost 1500 miles of driving and she ran great!

Beer and Z's! Two of my favorite subjects! To top it off my wife told me the factory service manual I bought off Ebay came to the house and looks in good condition. I bid on one a couple of weeks ago that sold for $110! The one I bought this week.... $1.99 plus 2.82 shipping. I couldn't believe it! The web page counter says I was the first one who saw it Saturday night and I hit the BIN button as quick as I could. I don't think the seller knew what they sold for.

Hello All, Happy to report I joined the Z Owner's Club! I bought the Lime Z from member DougN. I have driven it about 600 miles so far. I'm heading back to NH this weekend with a couple of stops along the way. I don't want to jinx myself but the car runs great! Doesn't seem like a 36 year old car. Some kids at a gas station asked me if it was a race car, I told them I was Speed Racer! I will get some pictures posted next week when it's all cleaned up. I want to thank alot of people here who gave me advice and offered help in my search for a car. Thanks to all!
  22. Thanks guys!
  23. If you put the spare on would it cause a problem as a mismatch? I've driven on the doughnut spares but I always assumed they were the same diameter. If I can use the 14" then I'll be glad to hear that!
  24. I'm curious what people have done when changing their wheels? What did you do when going from 14" stock wheels to 15" wheels? I'd like to save a buck or two if I can so I'm looking at options. Right now I see my only option is getting five 15" tires and wheels and storing the 14" wheels including spare and replacing the spare with a 15" also. Can you easily get a 15" "generic" as in "cheap" wheel for the new 15" spare so you don't have to sink lots of money into a nice looking wheel that you don't see? What did you do?

Looks like he's been in a couple of wrecks at that speed.
