  1. A few more photos. Tonight I bolted the passenger fender on, painted the grill, mounted the B pillars and seals, door handles, passenger mirror and installed the lock and push button on the trunk.
  2. My dad and I installed the front Vogtland coilovers last eve. This is only 3/4's of the way down. Also cleaned up and painted the emblems. Cut the "fuel injection" part off below the Rabbit emblem too.
  3. Hope you all don't mind but I wanted to post some more progress photos. I am getting really excited to see it all finished! Body, fenders, doors and hood are wetsanded and buffed. New trim is also installed.
  4. I figured English was the OP's second language. In that case, I would expect some incorrect spelling etc. But if not and it's just your "writing style" as you stated, you are part of the downfall of our society. And is spelled with a D at the end. I have no patience for people who cannot even take the time to spell and use at least mostly proper grammar and punctuation. You say nothing is wrong with it... Try asking an English teacher if there is anything wrong with that? You also might want to watch the movie Idiocracy. It's a documentary
  5. Ah ok . From my deciphering of the original post, I thought that all the electrical bits were working properly and both the volt meter and exhaust were backfiring
  6. I would be leaning more towards fuel. Also curious if the motor had been re-built recently. As stated, you need to provide way more details.
  7. I agree on the high prices. What I have done is e-mailed him with an offer of what I thought the parts were worth. If you are patient, most of the time he will lower the prices. And it's critical that you negoatiate shipping prices on multiple items before making a purchase b/c those shipping fees are extremely high IMO.
  8. Thanks everyone This is my best paint job yet. It's amazing!! Would have easily cost $5k. I misted the floor with water before I shot everything and hung some plastic drop cloth. I also used a Torpedo heater in b/t coats to keep the garage warm. Make sure anyone who tries this at home never uses any type of open flame heat source while paint vapors are still in the room! Here are some better photos now that everything has cleared out. The color is hard to capture in photos. It needs to be in the sunlight.
  9. 3 coats of Mellow Yellow and 2 coats of clear. I'm exhausted now
  10. Cool 521!!! I always wanted one but don't know if I could live with the kingpin suspension. Did you get that truck in West VA? Looks like one I was eyeing for a bit. Edit: Not the same truck although similar.
  11. Thanks Jeff. I hope to do this same process to a Z or another 510 before too long
  12. The main body is completely done and it's beautiful. Went ahead and shaved the sidemarkers, fender trim holes and rocker trim holes. Not a ripple anywhere. Smooth as glass. This is 2 different stages of primer and blocksanding followed by a final primer stage. I will do a light wetsand right before I shoot the base color. The doors and passenger fender are done as well. Plan on painting it this coming Monday. So stoked!!!
  13. It looks great in person too. Although I have yet to see it on the wall. This is my new garage edition (the red one not the yellow). I bought it for my wife as a surprise Xmas gift. She is a VW nut and is soooo excited she can barely contain herself. 1985 VW Cabriolet. My dad ^ (Diseazd) had a friend of ours build and install a 1.8L 8 valve since the original motor was toast. And of course I couldn't let it sit in the garage just like that.. So I am doing a total restoration for her She loves this yellow color so It's going to get painted the rare 95 Volvo T5-R yellow cream. Doing all the work myself. As it was on Xmas morn. And a few progress photos.
  14. I had an old 1/24 sparg plug set from a V8 car and just removed two of the wires
  15. I did... I sold it for $12k about 16 months ago. The guy didn't even try to negotiate. I honestly don't miss it though. Maybe b/c soon after I put a turbo and Wilwood brakes on my BMW and it's now making 343 RWHP and 325 ft lbs of torque at 12.5 psi
  16. IMO, that green wagon was quite a bit overpriced. 510 wagons are not that rare and are usually in much better shape than their 2 and 4 door counterparts. I would have estimated that car would sell for $8-9 tops. Hell, I sold my super clean 2 door with a very similar engine setup for $12k and the 2 doors generally bring quite a bit more than wagons. The fact that they have solid rear axles seems to hinder the value as well.
  17. Nice car Arne!! My dad was checking out my flickr recently and told me my recent scale model build is very similar to your car Although this one is a turbo and I did the dark reddish-brown interior. Also finished this truck and volvo wagon recently (240z engine bay shots included as well). Getting ready to start a display for my 1/24th collection. Going to create a 2 level parking garage with fluorescent lights etc.
  18. That's ok, I love E30's too btw, speaking of BMW's....check out this thread. I just updated since I put a turbo and wilwoods on the E34. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?35740-Non-Z.-My-rides.-five-amp-dime&p=377978#post377978
  19. Wanted to update on my BMW project since I have done so much. Early this year I did a custom turbo setup and added 6 piston Wilwoods up front with E38 750il rotors. Currently making 343 RWHP but hoping to get it to 375-400 at the wheels. Now making 325 ft lbs of torque at 3300 RPM's She is a beast.
  20. Just found these oldies but goodies. 1972 all over again
  21. Bruce is right about the rubber bits. For the 510, OEM rubber/weatherstripping seems to be worth its weight in gold.
  22. Oh I don't own a Z. My dad (Diseazd) has 4 immaculate Z's and it's probably confusing as in the beginning on this site, I posted for him. You must be talking about his 71 920 safari gold car. Or the lime 72. I also wouldn't buy a 510 with any care for resale value. But I also probably wouldn't buy one that was less than $5k as it would most likely need too much work unless you found a bargain. Metal work/rust repair is the most annoying and costly repair for any car and I would gladly pay an extra $2-3k up front to avoid months and months and many thousands of $'s fixing those issues. I love 510's!! I prefer them to S30's any day of the week. (don't everyone yell at me) I would get more attention in my car than a Ferrari Enzo or something along those lines. People always wanted to check out the 510 everytime I was at the gas station, grocery store etc.
  23. I strongly disagree with a 95% original rust free 72 510 being worth $3k. Actually if there is one for that price, let me at it! I would argue that a 2 door 72 510 original with no rust in good shape would easily fetch $6-7k depending. Decent cars go for $3k.. I sold my 72 510 with Rebello L20, twin Mikuni 44's, Troy Ermish coilovers, Roadtser 5 speed, in great shape a year ago for $12k and the guy didn't even try to negotiate. The nicest original 510 I know of is Miss Dottie and was for sale a year or so ago at $11k which I feel was a bargain. 35k original miles, original paint etc. I almost traded mine for it at one time 2 years ago. 510's seem to be extremely highly collectible in great shape. More so that S30's IMO as there are far less nice 510's left in the US than Z's. I have been actively looking at the values and prices of 510's for the last 10 years. Some photos of my baby. I plan on owning another one day.
