  1. threez, Here is the link to my flickr. To the right you will see the sets. At the bottom, click more sets to see all. The 510, the BMW and all the Z's are in there. http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/ surfertech, I think there is a build thread on that car. I actually should have posted these there instead of here Well it's a partial build thread... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?34448-New-l-28-for-my-72/page2&highlight=
  2. Some other stills I forgot to add. I took these a while back.
  3. Tried to get some driving shots today. I need to practice more but I think they came out ok. My dad drove his 72 and my E34.
  4. Here she is after being buffed out. It should come home for re-assembly any day now. This is really exciting!! I know my dad feels like he is 5 years old on Christmas eve (note: the engine bay and suspension aren't really covered in overspray, there is a special coating that was applied prior to paint that will wash away along with all the dust/overspray once hosed down.)
  5. Bob, I don't think you went through the entire thread This car now has zero rust and almost all the bolts have been or are being re-plated or replaced. The car also has Eibachs and Tokicos. My dad and I are very excited to see his baby all finished.
  6. A bit more progress.
  7. More....
  8. Here we go.. It's finally happening!! And it looks absolutely beautiful. Not to mention it hasn't even been wetsanded and buffed yet This is always my favorite stage of any car build. When the masking is about to come off.

And remember... if you have a shaved block, you also need to shave the front cover as well.

Ahh thanks for the clarification. I was going by memory and the program I saw was over a year ago. Still blows my mind!

I was watching a special on the Ferrari 250 GT0. Those cars fetch a million dollars now yet in the 80's, people couldn't give them away. Oh how the times change....
  12. Too bad Nissan doesn't do what Saab does.... http://blogs.motortrend.com/saab-offering-new-car-to-owners-of-millionmile-saabs-173.html

I ordered my carpet kit for my 510 about 2 years ago but I heard the guy is no longer in business. Try searching on the510realm for more info.
  14. Best color on a Z IMO
  15. I know something about that car..... It's hideous!
  16. Those are great shots!!

You didn't tell him about that time when we were swapping the L28 in the 70 and I dropped the phillips head from my teeth onto your fender. Oddly enough just a week or so later, my dad was moving that same John Deere and it backed into the driver rear door of my BMW and left a little nick. Payback's a bit$# eh?

Ahhh^ I was always on bimmerforums.com My E34 is a never ending project. Tons & tons of upgrades and hopefully turbo coming first quarter of next year. Then I think I will either get a mint alpine E39 M5 or a decent used Apine E60 M5.

Ahahahahahaha. I just pictured this ridiculous chain of events ending in your wife yelling at you so hard that the baby shoots out into the Dr.'s arms as he walks in the door to check on all the ruckus .
  21. You have no idea!!! The guy very rarely drove it and it was always in the garage. He took great care of everything. He had one of those old all in one tools in his garage and every component had a nice neat place for it. My kind of guy Unfortunately I don't often practice what I preach and my garage is often a mess .
  22. I will be excited to see what the final price is on the car. Especially with the state of the economy. I feel that when you build a car of this caliber you should either A. Plan to keep it for the rest of your life or B. know that you may at best net half of total money spent (probably closer to 35-40%) The real problem is you will never get the money back when farming all the work out. You could maybe come close to breaking even (MAYBE) when doing all the work yourself but I imagine the builder has mid-high 5 figures in labor alone as this is top notch work. I certainly wish the seller the best. This is truly one of the nicest Z's I have ever seen. I do think that if the right buyer came along, it would be someone who isn't really worried about the cost. But that person would have to really love the color and powerplant as you can build a close version of this car for less money and more power with the RB. That being said, I always thought the SR20 would be an ideal powerplant for the S30. The RB is just too much power for the small chasis IMO. Unless it was bone stock. Maybe Leno or Corola will bid Until that final hour we are all assuming though. Anything can happen and there are lots of enthusiasts out there with deep pockets. Me personally... For $125k, I would buy a new/used GTR, a concourse stock Z and have a little bit leftover for insurance
  23. I found this car when I was 17. I am now 31. My dad and I tried to buy it every year up until 2 years ago (when his collection was complete and I got my 510) but the old man who owned it didn't want to sell. Looks like he finally passed away and I don't have the funds and my dad's collection is complete. This car is in terrific shape!!! The interior is amazing. The gentleman never ever drove it in the rain. My dad and I can confirm that the odometer was replaced as the owner showed us details. The paint was also done as stated back in the late 70's/early 80's but I cannot recall why. All in all this is a perfect driver or an amazing candidate for restoration. The interior is like new. We have no affiliation with the current seller. I just found it in my weekly search and couldn't believe the man passed away. He was very nice and loved his Z since new. http://richmond.craigslist.org/ctd/2106433510.html

Jon, I honestly don't think it has anything to do with being different. The younger crowd likes cars that are low. I don't see anything wrong with that (although I despise the stretched tire look!!!!). Sure it may not be that functional but that's how we learn. I am 31 and did some really stupid things when I was younger. I will probably still do many stupid things in the future. I bet many here did the same I know my dad spent some of his wedding money on Koni's which beat him to death back in the 70's. The things we do to make out cars look good..... Look at the folks who cut their springs. I would argue that lowering a car almost always makes it look better if nothing else. Too low maybe not so much but it's all in the eye of the beholder. I dropped my 510 as low as the coilovers would allow and drove it like that for 2 years with no ill effects (w.out bumpsteer spacers) I loved it. I also didn't race so I wasn't concerned with the perfect performance setup. My BMW is lowered 2 inches also and I love it. It's been that way for 5 years now. I may even get coilovers eventually and go lower. My dad's lime Z is pretty low as well and it's also the one that gets most of the best comments. Most of these guys with the slammed Z's don't track them nor drive them hard. If they do it's mostly for drifting which is the autosport for the younger generation and has a huge following while generating a ton of income for various drift related companies. Your parents generation probably shook their fingers at you when you were young too Lucky for us we only have to look at them (even if many look on in disgust )
