Are you following on flickr? You know that link I posted #1 wasn't my build right? That is another guy on the model car forum. His build is amazing!!! I don't if I am that skilled But I do plan on going all out with wires, brake lines, linkages etc. I also plan to drill out molded bolts and use real ones for suspension etc. I am going to go back to the junkyard out to pasture thread. Maybe I can take submissions of peoples "out to pasture Z's" and recreate a members back yard Z. As a G nose of course......

I received the kit in the mail yesterday. First impressions... It's huge!!! I mean the box must weight 7-8 lbs!!!! The detail is absolutely amazing for a kit pressed in the 70's!!!! I was blown away by the fact that the interior panels are all soft rubber and look like real. The seats have amazingly real texture to them. It has items like tools, wheel chocks, etc. The transmission is like 8 pieces!!!! There are two sets of plated parts. One finish is simulated aluminum and the other is more chrome. The half shafts actually turn in the diff case and have knuckles for the u-joint construction. They also have real rubber boots!!! All the suspension and drivetrain is accurately recreated with mustache bar etc. I couldn't believe it. I took many photos and will post some this eve. What I was hoping to get were some photos of the G nose cars. I spent a lot of time on the forum and on google and got some pretty good images but was hoping someone here could direct me towards a thread on these specific cars. I want to know the colors offered on these cars (if any different or unusual colors) and would like to see some restored examples and preferably some ragged out versions. I am leaning towards doing this as a weathered barn find with rust etc. However, the guy building the kit I submitted the link to in post #1 e-mailed me and is going to get me a set of the 16" watanabes he is having cast so I may try and re-create Eiji's car with the slide valves etc Anyhew...... For anyone considering one of these, you will not be dissapointed!!!

#1 Cardomain 240Z (All Years) braggin rights?

I am back in the #1 slot for the dimes -
I have wanted one of these models for years. I just didn't want to spend $130 and have to pay shipping from Hong Kong. 1/12th scale Tamiya 240ZG. It appears to come with the standard front end as well and that is how I will build mine. Well this weekend I found one on ebay from a guy in VA for half the usual asking price. 2000 items and 99.9% feedback. It's new in the box as well so..... While looking around for detail sets etc, I came across this guy's build. Truly amazing!!!!! Note the parking break linkage, hood catch, diff, fuel system etc.!!! Unreal. Cannot wait to start on mine. I am thinking of doing a barn find version with rust etc. I will take lots of pix of the process as I have wanted to see the quality of this kit for years. I couldn't find any photos online in the past. I hope it's as nice as it's rumored to be http://public.fotki.com/Greg5000/tamiya-112-datsun-240zg/

have you looked into bump steer spacers to reduce the problem? http://www.ground-control.com/gcnisscat.htm http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/23-4186

I am no electrical genius but I upgraded my 510 to a coil with internal ballast resistor to get rid of the external. I am also running a Crane XR700 ignition system. Everything works great! Curious if the alternator has anything to do with it. I am also running an IR later model Nissan alt.

Zcar70. My dad and I both love the color of your car. We both agree that shade looks better than the factory color. Do you have the formula??? It's beautiful!!!
-
I wasn't trying to debate either I apologize if I offended you. The OP asked about resale and I thought your answer may have given the OP a false impression of an answer to his question about "resale" I agree with you here but even a few hundred dollars may be a lot to many people. I didn't mean historical value. Historical value means squat IMO (unless you are talking about a hemi cuda, 60's ferrari's or dusenbergs etc). B/c it's all about what people will pay not what a book says it's worth. I am only talking about resale as the OP asked. True. Very easy. Yet many if not most people don't do it. They should!!! I figured since he was "looking" at a car that he may also be looking at others that aren't a color of his liking. I also imgaine the title of this thread will probably be searched by others in the future which is why I tried to give a blanket opinion on the topic I totally agree with you here which is why I said "That being said, it's your car. I don't buy cars for re-sale so I have no problem with changing the color." I think we are both on the same page though and again I am sorry if I offended
-
I wouldn't say that doubled the value just b/c the responses. Not too mention 90% of the people that asked if it is for sale probably don't even have the money. People talk ya know. I have been guilty of that a number of times. Changing the color will almost always de-value the car if it is a classic. Unless as stated before, the car is completely gutted and fully re-painted by a pro (inside and out). Even then... changing the color will still de-value the car to the purists. Even quality paintjobs in the same color can bring the value down. Especially if you don't have lots of photos showing the process. I know if I look at a classic car that has been recently painted, it definitely makes me think twice about it. New paint on a car for sale is generally a cover up. I always prefer a car with original paint as you never know how much bondo lurks under a respray. never buy a car that has been primed unless you see lots of photos of the prep work!!!! That being said, it's your car. I don't buy cars for re-sale so I have no problem with changing the color. Even if I do, I am anal and a camera whore. So I do things right and take lots of photographs of the "process" Just my $.02

I wouldn't think there was enough space for "subs" Maybe you could use some mid drivers like 6.5's or 6x9's but I think that would even be a tight fit. Best sub enclosures imo are made from the spare well. Most people lay foil in the spare compartment then cover with vasiline. Then you lay the fiberglass. Once you remove the mold, you take a piece of MDF cut to fit the top and then fiberglass the spare tire compartment form to the flat piece on top. Then you have a flush mount sub enclosure that leaves your trunk free for storage. You do lose the spare, but I only take a spare on long trips in my BMW and don't even have one for my Datsun.

Congrats!!! I will be sure to vote for you to keep you there. My 510 is the #1 510 on Cardomain Please do the same for me Pretty cool that we have the two #1 slots for the best Datsun models of all time -
More pics of the girl next to the lime Z please

More shine and depth to base/clear jobs. You can also get a better finish if you lay more coats of clear on then wetsand all orangepeel out. Nothing better than a quality paintjob that has been fully wetsanded and buffed out IMO. This thread has made my decision to dimantle my car this winter and build the rotisere. I also plan on doing the bedliner undercoating in the same color. I just need to decide whether to stick with the orange or go with my other favorite "cactus green"............

Side note but similar topic. I have heard that Jerry Seinfeld has the first and last 911 produced. Does that mean is has vin ..........1 or the first one sold in the US? And if he has the last one, which last one? Classic or newer? Otherwise he would have to swap the last one out at the end of each production run I would think if #13 is truly the first car sold in the US then it would be a great candidate to be in the Datsun heritage personally. I don't see why that wouldn't be an ideal place for it.

Amen to that Colin

Will a 510 5-speed bolt up to a 240Z?

Will a 510 5-speed bolt up to a 240Z?
five&dime replied to regularjoe's topic in Engine & Drivetrain
I would be willing to bet it is a 280 trans (most popular 510 trans swap) so you should be good to go The only thing you may need to check is shifter location and then of course get the right flywheel, fork, T/O and driveshaft to match. I also have a 72 510 The 510 didn't have a 5 speed until the it came back in the late 70's -
Wow impressive garage job. I am usually not a fan of fade jobs b/c most people don't do it well. Hard to tell from the photos but looks like you got it perfect

five&dime replied to regularjoe's topic in Engine & Drivetrain
What year 510? Early 510's didn't have a 5 speed and everyone uses the 280z, 200sx,truck or roadster trans. -
I have almost forgotten what this original thread is about lolz

I think DMV has become really strict with information. As well as they should be I suppose. I can't remember how exactly but I was able to find out the original owner of my 53 Chevy pickup many years ago and when my dad and I bought a 67 roadster, it had no title. So we had to send a certified letter to the previous owner to tell them the car would be auctioned. Then if they didn't show, the car is yours. You may want to look at how that process works for this.

Wow!!! Looks really clean. Love the original color too!!! You and your son will have a ball with this project

The hood just didn't look right to me. It was well done however. I sold it on eBay for around $350 iirc. The orange is Ford Spice Orange. I had the local paint place take a UV reading when I decided to paint the engine bay and pillars, window frames. Luckily I got a car that was originally done well and hardly any rust. It just needed to pretty much be dissasembled and then reassembled the correct way. I still need to have a nicer custom trans mount made, LSD diff and maybe C/V's in the future. The #1 or 2 lobe on the cam is just starting to wear so once the first snow hits I won't drive her anymore and will put in a new cam, rockers, timing chain, starter and the engine bay will be all done and all new Recently installed a new Nissan IR alt. Here is the link to the entire build process with photography. http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/sets/72157622252247780/ Here are before and afters of the engine bay <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2458404208/" title="P4120151 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2339/2458404208_fb24d12611_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="P4120151" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3448422649/" title="IMG_0368 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3556/3448422649_e128f040ba_b.jpg" width="1024" height="670" alt="IMG_0368" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2457573635/" title="P4120144 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3017/2457573635_96608d1a33_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="P4120144" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3888758820/" title="IMG_4476 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3423/3888758820_55ba7b4732_b.jpg" width="1024" height="684" alt="IMG_4476" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2522166925/" title="IMG_8898 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3192/2522166925_3a054cd735_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_8898" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3497116833/" title="IMG_1427 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3649/3497116833_bcd2441411_b.jpg" width="1024" height="661" alt="IMG_1427" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/3732790425/" title="IMG_3397 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2527/3732790425_b8666436b5_b.jpg" width="1024" height="684" alt="IMG_3397" /></a>
