Splash Pan Bolts
I tried to order about $300 in bolts from him and he only offered to reduce shipping from like $100 to $90. I sent a Datsun 510 hood across the country for $75!!!

Splash Pan Bolts
If they are from Reddat they are most likely NOT OEM!!! And be prepared to get raped on shipping!! Looks like reddat's pix. Pix of bolts on top of the same package he uses for all his pics. Edit: It looks like you are doing the smart thing and trying to go with the dealer on this. I will PM you some info that may help you

Wet Sanding
FYI: When I wetsand I either just hold the hose over the surface as I go, or I use a spray bottle and just constantly mist the surface and the sandpaper. You only need to wetsand prior to painting if you are going for a show paintjob. Even at that rate it should only be used on primer/paint that has been layed down fairly recent. If you were to wetsand the old surface prior to painting for just a simple panel paintjob, it would take you forever and is pointless IMO. Wetsanding only removes a minuscule amount of material. You need to be careful when wetsanding a finished paintjob as it is fairly easy to cut through the clear coat when you get going. When that happens you have to start over It took me almost 7 hours to wetsand and buff just the driver side of my 510. BTW, if it doesn't look like the 3M pads are sanding enough or there are a lot of pits. try 400 and/or 600 gritt. Just use light to medium pressure though. If you sand too hard it will be a nightmare to get the sand marks out. You generally have to sand twice as long each time you go up in gritt to get rid of the previous gritt marks. For instance. If you sand one area for 10 minutes with 400 then you want to sand that area 15-20 minutes with 800 etc.

Wet Sanding
You don't need to wetsand prior to painting. The only wetsanding I do in post paint is wetsanding primer with 600 and then the first two base coats with 800. This is only for a perfectionist job and only when I am down to metal. You don't want to wetsand the final basecoat before clear either FYI. Wetsanding is mainly used for post work. When I clear a car I wetsand with 1500 and then 2000 wrapped around a 3M foam block. Then I high speed buff at 3000 RPM using 3 pads and 3 different 3M products. I wetsand with 600 only if I have runs in the clear and then work my way up to 800, 1200, 1500 and then 2000. If you are just prepping for paint and your old paint is decent, then all you need to do is get a 3M scotch bright pad and scuff the surface. You want to eliminate all the sheen from the finish trying to cut through as much clear as you can. Then just wipe the surface with pre-cleaner, wipe it with a tack cloth and then you are ready to shoot.

How many HORSEPOWER vroom roooom!
You lose about 20% or so from the fly to the wheels so.... My stock s14 silvia engine rated by Nissan as 220hp was dynoed at 186 to the wheels. I saw them dyno a mid 90's mustang GT on one of those spike tv shows and it put down 160 at the wheels. Don't you know mustang GT owners all over were severely let down by that. No wonder my 510 can walk all over the mustang GT's from the 80's-90's

into paint shop but what color??
Keep in mind that first pic has a real high saturation. Someone messed with it in Photoshop or equiv. so that color is far from accurate. I love the way it looks in the last photo

into paint shop but what color??
I think that any CF or even anything dark in color will look great with the yellow. A yellow Z with CF hood, dark grey or CF bumpers and some anthracite watanabe's with a polished lip would look sick!!!

into paint shop but what color??
Thanks!! When I bought the car in May I was planning on taking her down to metal and going with the celery green. After I saw it in person, I loved it!! It is very close to the OE color. This color is called spice orange. Here is that 850R color

into paint shop but what color??
Hmmm. I thought Dakar was a lighter yellow. That is a bit too vibrant. What about the Volvo 850R yellow. That is a nice color.

Great story Carl!!! And killer collection you have there. I love the design of your garage with doors on both sides. Think I may steal that idea when I build my next house

So I picked up this '72 240Z... What have I gotten myself into?
Wow!! Killer deal. Can't see the pix at work but for $700 why not?? I think the emissions are the only difference on the 72 so that is probably the added weight. There are a lot more guys who really know there stuff here so it is only a matter of time before they chime in. What you HAVE gotten yourself into is a constant drain on your bank account and your significant other's patience Cheers

Memoirs of your past Datsuns
I searched a bit but didn't find anything similar. I thought it would be cool to have a thread for people to post pictures and/or stories about their first Datsuns. My current orange 72 510 is my first and only Datsun...... For now Of course I grew up around Datsuns b/c my dad (Diseazd) had a ton of them. I was just telling him today that it's kind of cool that some of my first memories are pretending to drive in the 510 shells leftover from his resto. Very cool to have one now and have that nostalgia. Anyhew.... I scanned a bunch of his old photos and thought you all would enjoy these and then post your own. I will let him post a reply to share some info on his many past Datsuns. I know the black car was his first and I believe he purchased it used in 71 or 72. The rest of the 510's were over the late 70's early 80's I believe. Cheers Brandon <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2776122957/" title="IMG_0034 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3152/2776122957_ce4d1e3132_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="IMG_0034" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2848713395/" title="pops pics002 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3098/2848713395_6355262db7_b.jpg" width="777" height="1024" alt="pops pics002" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2848708565/" title="pops pics006 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3193/2848708565_96a738f9d3_b.jpg" width="1024" height="781" alt="pops pics006" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2848709821/" title="pops pics021 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3195/2848709821_edb892340f_o.jpg" width="984" height="978" alt="pops pics021" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2848713173/" title="pops pics003 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3151/2848713173_aa9a038be4_o.jpg" width="894" height="960" alt="pops pics003" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2848717935/" title="pops pics052 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3290/2848717935_4b3e477f0d_b.jpg" width="1024" height="662" alt="pops pics052" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2848717583/" title="pops pics051 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3213/2848717583_5937ee09da_b.jpg" width="1024" height="688" alt="pops pics051" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2849548502/" title="pops pics046 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3248/2849548502_b13e6fbb9a_b.jpg" width="738" height="1024" alt="pops pics046" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/2848715887/" title="pops pics044 by RVAE34, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3217/2848715887_ea13ea0b7a_b.jpg" width="1024" height="693" alt="pops pics044" /></a>
