  1. I was updating my project in here but I started a thread in off topic http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/open-general-discussions/49773-my-e39-touring-project.html#post434580 Teaser
  2. Lastly, first start. No tune and no exhaust in this video.
  3. Many of you probably know my dad on here (diseazd). I thought some might be interested in the project I have been working on for the last year. It is almost complete. 1999 BMW E39 528 touring/station wagon. Custom ordered from the factory in Mojave metallic brown (only E39 in this color) GM performance LSx 427 built by Thomson which should be making close to 600 RWHP. LS7 rotating mass with titanium rods & intake valves, sodium filled exhaust valves, heat treated crank, LS7 heads and intake manifold. Comp cam, springs, retainers, rockers etc. E67 LS7 ECU kit, Cadillac CTS-V accessory kit, Autokraft oil pan. Tremec Magnum 6 speed manual with 2.66 1st gear and an LS9/ZR-1 dual clutch setup with Zip performance light weight steel flywheel. Diff is from an M5 with an E46 M3 3.62 gearset (over the 3.15 that came stock) Also went from a 2 clutch diff with 25% lockup to a 3 clutch with 40% lockup. Suspension consists of Fortune Auto custom built coilovers and a Shroeder stock car 1.5" front sway bar. Other mods include full black interior swap, back alcantara headliner and pillars, E38 7 series sport seats, Volk TE37 reps in 19x9.5/10.5, blackout window trim, tinted windows, M5 front and rear bumpers and M5 headlights that I custom built using Nissan Murano projectors. Here are some progression pix. Right now, the front diff mount is getting reinforced as well as full 3" header back dual exhaust with twin Magnaflow 3" cats and dual Borla XR-1 multi core 3" mufflers that will be fitted with quad 3" single wall stainless tips.
  4. Stopped by on the way home from work to snap a few pix of my dad's Z progress.
  5. This 60's Porsche has been sitting up on a hill near my house for years. I just finally got around to snapping a few shots of it.
  6. I got all excited about that episode until they got into it. Then I changed the channel.
  7. A friend of mine who has only done one or two suggested a beam or dial type inch pound torque from a bike shop for only $30 or so in order to get the preload specs. Would you agree with that?
  8. Great info, thanks! My dad tells me this is what you do
  9. Great link! Is it correct that for a regular re-build, you get the pinion depth, bearing preload and carrier bearing preload etc before you dissasemble and then use those same specs for the re-build and then check for the proper mesh (knowing that you may have to change those a few times in order to get the proper mesh/backlash)
  10. If the ring gear is the same diameter, wouldn't the install be pretty straight forward (if you have the tools and know how of course)? I am having a friend with the dial indicator and magnetic base swap a 3.62 into my M5 3.15 diff. It is a direct bolt in b/c both are 210mm. From what I understand, you would just need to check the backlash and make sure the new one is the same correct? And then just install new pinion gear bearings. And I know BMW is not Datsun but I was able to pick up the 3.62 gearset from an M3 for $80 as that is the going rate. Gearsets should be fairly cheap if used. My only concern would be finding a gearset lower that 4.1x. Did the R200's even come with an option like that in any vehicle? I have been trying to learn as much as I can about diffs as I am building my E39 LSX car. I was going to try and go from a 2 clutch to a 3 but after reading about having to machine the case for that and change the pinion gear depth, I decided to keep it simple. I just hope the 2 clutch 210mm can hold up to 500+ ft lbs.
  11. We got into a discussion on a local car forum about this car. I felt the $25-35k estimated price was quite optimistic. My guess was about $15-17k tops and just wanted to know what the sale price was if there was one. I tried to find it on the site but it's not the easiest to navigate. My apologies if the price was already posted somewhere on here. Time Capsule 1973 Datsun 240Z Hits The Block
  12. For anyone else, http://www.new-datsun-parts.com/datsun-240Z-parts-rubber1.html
  13. For anyone who is interested (hope it's ok to continue posting in here), I have some updates on the wagon. Added the M5 front bumper and yesterday, my motor arrived. Thomson GMPP LSX 427 with LS7 heads (titanium intake valves and sodium filled exhaust valves) and LS7 intake mani. http://www.streetrodderweb.com/tech/0809sr_building_a_gm_performance_lsx_engine/ After Thomson built the 427's, they had a few leftover and decided to take it a little further. I am waiting on the dyno sheet but I was told that this motor made over 600hp at the fly and revs to 7k The engine came with the CTSV acc kit and an E67 stand alone ECU kit. Just waiting on the TR6060 trans from Tremec now.
  14. Some updated shots of my E39 LSX 427 touring project the 427 and TR6060 trans are on the way!
  15. Sold my turbo BMW E34. Bought this. 99 528it "individual" car meaning custom ordered in this Mojave metallic brown color and is the only one in the country. I already have my autokraft oil pan, custom engine/trans mounts as well as custom ceramic coated headers. H&R rear springs with Bilstein sports and up front, Fortune Auto coilovers which I am picking up today. The engine has been ordered and is a brand new crate GM performance iron block LSX 427 stroker motor. 550hp/580 ft lbs of torque. The motor comes with CTSV accessories and LS7 heads/intake manifold. Also ordered 2013 Camaro TR6060 6 speed transmission and clutch kit. Going to be a beast of a wagon!
  16. at Carl E36 M3 is the mid 90's version. E30 was the mid-late 80's 3 series. S54 is the OBDII M3 engine with ITB's. Oddly enough one of the interested parties for my BMW is also an S30 owner and Nationals 2nd place trophy winner who also knows my dad (Diseazd). Small world.
