Today I experienced the Z performance for the first time!
Man I can't even remember what it is like to drive my car anymore; it's been so so long. I can't remember what it's like to drive my old 1978 280z either. I long for the smiles you peeps are talking about. Someday I hope. I'm lucky enough to have my M3 to generate the smiles, but it isn't the same as driving a 70's legend.... Good to hear you're really enjoying your Z Panic. Keep the good times rolling....

Wow John, outstanding work. Your Z really came out nice. I know it's going to be hard, but try and make it by the forums once in a while. The Z is going to consume all your free time.... Great Job!!

E-tek RACING '71 Parts Car Resto
Can I have your rotisserie when you're done? Looking good so far. Are you restoring/rebuilding for racing or is this one going to be a fun family driver? Good luck with the resto....

Thanks Z Train....

Why do people paint a white stripe down the hood?
ZTrain, I was looking at your front spook. I noticed it's the same one I have (the one with the built in license plate holder). I got mine back in the mid 70's and it's damaged now no thanks to my brother. I was woindering if you've had your for years or have purchased/installed not long ago and if so where you purchased it?... I'd like to replace mine, but I'm not sure where I can find that style now. You don't see many with the license plate holder anymore. I may have to see if I can get it fixed/re-fiberglassed or if it's even possible.... Thanks!

body/paint work....240 questions
Very interesting product you link EScanlon. I see listed as ideal uses: as a protective coating on aluminum wheels, chrome bumpers, etc... I wonder what the durability would be, over time, on those just to name a few?... I would have loved to use this product on my stainless steel barbeque grill....

Hood Vents
Thanks sblake01. I was just talking to EScanlon about the issue as well. I found the thread listed above a little while later after I posted in this thread. Thanks for your response and link to the thread....

Any reason why my post on 08/10 was deleted. It pertained to the vapor lock issues in this thread?...

What worst car have you bought ever?
Worst car? By far was (actually my G-Friends car) a 1980 4-speed Chevy Chevette. What a pile. I drove the car for about 6-months while attending college. I can't count the number of things that went wrong with that car, not to mention the amount of parts that kept falling off too. You want to talk about gutless; man that thing had balls the size of grains of sand.... Best thing that ever happened to that car was when I was hit head on by a Cadillac. Damn near killed me, but at least I got rid of that nightmare.... Ahh, the good times.... (Sarcasm)

Video BRE from Road & Track
Good to see all you hard work get to shine in the spotlight Ron. I'm def. going to get the Sept. issue. I use to be a long long time subcriber to R&T, Mototrend, and Car & Driver, but have since stopped. This will bring back memories....

BRE Spoilers and Spooks are back
My step father was a 747 pilot for Northwest Airlines and flew to and from Japan regularly during the 70's all the way up to the Delta merge. He was the original owner. He along with one of the managers of, what is now defunct; Downtown Datsun in Seattle built the car. He personally bought and imported many parts directly from Japan as he could just carry, what he bought, onto the plane during his trips.... I know the mirrors, spook, spoiler, fiberglass light buckets, and last but not least the light cover and chrome rings were brought over from Japan. From what he told me (he's passed on now) he also added Volvo needles to the SU's once he swapped them back in and sold the Mikuni's. I have never verified this. If they are they are still in there. The car has been sitting for many many years. When I got the car in the early / mid 80’s (can’t remember when it was passed on to me) I only drove it a few years then parked it. It’s been sitting in my garage ever since. I really want to do a full restore someday. I’ll need tons of help when I do.... Off the top of my head, the only thing I've replaced on this car is tires, exhaust, mechanical oil pump, and little odds and ends. I know the motor was balanced and the motor mounts were redone after the stock ones broke pushing the fan into the radiator during a race. He use to race it a lot in the 1970-80’s at what was SIR at the time and now is called Pacific Raceways. I wish I could remember what class he raced in, but I do know it is no longer running for many years now. This was not a major competition car, but it has seen a whole lot of track time. It has 98k org. miles.... The car does not have nor did it ever have any fender flares...

BRE Spoilers and Spooks are back
Thanks Ron. I agree with your, "kinder" statement. I too try my best to adhere to that belief.... As for the spoiler, that statement is the best description I've heard. This car was setup (put together) in the early "70's) for local racing during that period. Besides the removal of the triple Mikuni's, (boy I wished I still had those) the car hasn't been altered from the original race form since that period. Thanks for the information. I always wondered about the spoiler on my car. I don't see many Z's running this particular unit.... Thanks for the input. Always appriciated.... **EDIT** The wheels where changed out as well....

BRE Spoilers and Spooks are back
Not that it matters, but this is the same spoiler that currently resides on my 240z for the past 30+ years. It's huge.... Even though it seems tensions rises during these types of discussions, I still find the discussions to very interesting and thought provoking. My hat's off to all.... **EDIT** Photo addition....

Arnie, love following your Z build. Question: Did you ever get your neighbors car running if so what was the problem. Do you still have the car or are you still working on it. Just interested what ever happened..... Thanks.... Scott-
