I agree with Steve. The links you provided obewon are very helpful for what I am currently trying to do. Sometimes it takes hours of searching just to get a portion of the info needed. I can never get enough good info related to restoration tips etc.... Thanks again....

Same here Andy. You know to this day, even though the car has not been driven in many many years, the cockpit still smells of exhaust. I suppose the main culprit is the carpet and real wool sheep skin covers.... Don, the ride quality, or lack there of, is another reason she hated the car. One thing I made very clear though; I had the car before I met her and it isn't going anywhere. Although, she has tried over the years, they are both still here. The smell issue will be dealt with as the time comes.... Funny story. This in is a main reason for me getting the Z bug again. I had a friend of over seven years walk into my garage and for the first time see the corner headlight cover of the Z buried underneath a wealth of boxes, bubble wrap, and non-harmful clutter. The car, to me, was out-of-site and out-of-mind for many years. When he saw the car he was shocked (I found out he is a big Z lover too). he couldn’t believe it. He was dumbfounded that I had never even mentioned the car in passing. I never realized I hadn’t mentioned it either as most don’t care even when I do (there are exceptions though). I knew he was a car buff, but in truth, the Z never crossed my mind…. He has tried to get me to sell the car to him ever since. His wife in conversation with my wife has stated he really wants to buy my car. Like a true champ, my wife has matter-of-factly stated I will never sell the car. She told her that from day one, I said that car isn’t going anywhere and I would never sell it. I am happy to see she truly understands and has excepted it’s place in my heart…. I guess I can thank my friend for waking me up and rekindling the fire I once had for this car. It feels good. It’s what has prompted me to find this board and the many people I would like to call friends during my long project. I just wish I had a better understanding of what I am doing….hehe Sorry for the babble and hijack Don…. [/hijack]

Ahh, my mistake Jon. Thanks for clarifying....

I had a "78" 280-Z and never had the smell issues I've had with the "72" 240-Z. The smell never really bothered me too much however, it use to bother my girlfriend/wife. One positive note though; I never had to worry about her wanting to drive it. I guess that's one of the reasons I never tried to hard to fix the issue........
  5. I agree, the key words here are, "Z Heritage".... = .02

Here is another site, which I am sure Jon is well aware of. It isn't half as complete as the .pdf Jon provided, but has bit of info about part numbers at the end. Not sure if this helps or if it is redundant, but I thought I would throw it out just in case, FWIW.... DATSUN/NISSAN LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIALS
  7. Very nice Jon. I would like to complement Dave on a job well done on his fabrication. The fit and finish is done really well. Now you have great sound to with good style....
  8. I remember that thread. You stated to look under rear view mirror and the insturments for day/month stamps and for stamps thought the car in verious places. That was a very informative thread....
  9. I wouldn't mind going, but not sure if the Z will. I will have to check my schedule.... The car has been sitting for quite a long time. At the very least I have to drop the tank, blow the lines, drain oil and re-add some AMS-OIL, look to see why the clutch has no hydraulic fluid (master/slave who knows), bleed the breaks, and to top it off, I believe I have a broken gearbox mount. I am sure I will want to pull the valve cover and poor some oil over the valves and down the plugs too. If I go, I would probably be driving the BMW. I am sure that will go over well with some of the 350z, 240sx and such,,,,. (j/k).... Lots of fun stuff to do. So much work and so little time. Not even sure if I have all the correct tools. I haven't worked on this car in so long. She still looks alright though....

Hey Andy I just seen your thread. Wishing Godspeed on you trip. I am green with envy. That sounds like a great way to tour Southwest. What better way to travel than in a Z, well except for maybe in my M..... Have fun and be careful. Takes some great shots with the Z in them of course....

Don, I believe I read somewhere here on this forum that the smell could be attributed to and exhaust leak from the front as well (manifold, header). Therefore the smell could come through the firewall or up through the shifter boot. Have you inspected your full exhaust system.... I too, have had the issue of the exhaust smell in the cockpit for the twenty plus years I've owned the Z. However, I have never had an issue with the fuel smell some here have experience.... I have a spook on the front and rear of my Z and this has done nothing to help in this matter. I do believe one of the best cures, besides culking, is to extend the pipe past the rear bumper. I have not attempted to do any sort of cures for my smell issues and my pipe is about even with my rear bumper. This will be addressed once I begin my refresh and/or restore.... P.S. Guys, once I pull the car out of the garage to clean inside and out, I will do an introduce thread....

Don, I found this info from the search button above. Here are a few threads with a wealth of info. This is a very common problem among early S30 Z cars. There is a lot of good info and tips in just these three threads alone. I hope they help.... Thread link 1: Thead link 2: Thread link 3: Good luck....
  14. I think the car is worth every penny of the almost 18k it went for. That is a fine example of an unmolested classic Z. I only wish I was the one who bought it....
  15. I believe this is a fine example of of a "78" 280z. I use to own one the exact year, color, and options (full). I really miss that car. I would love to own this car....

Ron, if you would could you get me the same info. I am in the same position as rv6aflyer regarding my "72" 240. Thanks....

It's pretty obvious to me that you are here, not for knowledge, but for trolling. The answers to your questions, as vague as they are, are located all throughout this forum. If you created better formed and descriptive questions, many here would be able to help you with the objectives you have with your zed, however insane we may believe you to be. The search function is your friend…. P.S. In the upper right hand corner of the “Reply to Thread” box, there a spellchecking button (ABC). This cannot help with your punctuation, but at least it may help with your spelling….

Heh, all in all, that isn't that bad either....
  19. Z Speed replied to AndysPlit's post in a topic in Wheels & Brakes
I believe I have alway bought "R" rated tires for the zed. I too, have and never will exceed 130mph in that car. The "ZR" rated tires were for the M3, which hits that speed without effort. The major draw back for the sticky "ZR" rated tires are they're for summer use. The don't work well in the cold, snow, and some degree; rain. I don't drive the M in the winter, but I know some who do. They just mount winter tires on a different set of wheels and call it a day.... They do handle very well. You will really notice a difference between a "H" rating, "R" and/or "ZR"....

Uhh, that would be OIL "product". More specific, Synthetic oil....
  21. Since the thread had been resurrected. I too, would like to thank you for sharing that story Darbji. The nostalgia of the story itself brings memories of how I have touched people during some part of their life. I haven't had my Z on the road (yes it does run) for many many years, but sometimes just the mention of it in passing conversations can induce the same response. A number of occasions, I can remember the subject of the conversation completely change to the Z. Completely replacing the original topic. Never to get back on track. Many are surprised and/or shocked to find I have one. Many knowing me for years. It is funny to watch their faces…. I think Matt summed it up very pointedly, when he stated the Z was in the financial reach of a wider public demographic. It was a entry level coupe that many could relate with, afford, and allow to take to the track and compete with some of the heavy hitters of that time. I know how the car has affected me and it doesn’t surprise that it would do the same on a broader range. I can see it already affecting my four year old son; hopefully on the same level as his dad….

The age of the 300zx is starting to rise. I would imagine it's only a matter of time before someone creates a restoration book for the z31. We should all hope....

It's not the bald tires were commenting about. That is a 30 year old car you're trying to power brake. Unless you have keep up on the service/maintenance, which seems suspect just from your posts, there is a high probability that something major is going to break. Parts for these cars aren't readily available and easily found....
  25. Z Speed replied to AndysPlit's post in a topic in Wheels & Brakes
You make a great point. A ZR rated tire would be a lot stickier than a H rated one. I have never tried the lesser rated tires from General....
