newbie here... here's my 240z...
i have a question, as you can see my bro has a 280Z in the background but he lost the title... i looked at the motor and it said l28 block with a n47 head? so did someone swapped head and bump the compression up or something? can i take the head and bolt it on my l26 block? or do i have to do that eyebrowing the block or piston whatever?

yeah.. and i don't have anything against Z's... i know when tuned right and with the right mods it's way faster than most of the hondas on the street. i mean if any car is damn near stock, it's gonna be slow. if it wasn't for forced induction for my honda, it'll be just another grocery getter/commuter car with less than 100hp at the flywheel...

yeah... i mean it does backfire and my brother said maybe one of the carb is bad because when you rev up to like 2/3k it starts backfiring but when you past that, it's fine... yeah, the makuni's were dial-tuned when i saw the papers in the glove compartment but it's been tampered with already... i'm pretty sure my bro messed with it and everything... and i have a turbo'd civic hatch btw... and trust me, my hatch is way faster....

newbie here... here's my 240z...
well, today I tried cleaning the engine bay a little more, cleaned up the wires a bit, and took it on a test drive... seriously, my honda feels like a 400hp car compared to this slowpoke... ... it was dog slow... so new powerplant is the first priority... valve cover off... cleaning up the wires.. it got SARS!!! haha jp... stripping old paint off and sanding it down/prep it for paint.. more sars pic... primered it and waiting it to dry for real paint.. valve cover bolts were rusty so i threw it on the wire wheel and came out just like new! end result... more to come!!

Tachometer not working on 240z???
o.k...now i read that i have to buy a tach adapter in order for it to work with a 240z tach... i have a question, can i just use like an older model tach so i don't have to buy a tach adapter? and if i do buy the adapter how do i hook it up... the white wire on my msd is not hooked up to anything?

thanks for the comments... the only heatshield it has for the carbs are some thin plate of metal that goes under the carbs and seems like they added some type of thermal wrap under the shield and that shield bolts on to the itg filter which i'm trying to replace...

Here's pic of what i've done so far. cleaned it. did an oil change, cleaned the carbs, took the battery to autozone to get it charged (optima takes the whole day to charge). cleaned up the wires, trying to get the tachometer to work. tomorrow I'm going to bleed the slave cylinder, bleed the brakes and maybe throw some paint on the valve cover... we'll see...

thanks for the comments.... my brother bought this at an auction years ago and it was running perfectly... until he didn't have time to drive it because of work and such so once he tried to fire it up a couple years back it wasn't running as good anymore... i think it's one of the carb... not sure... it's a 5 speed. yeah the engine looks terrible since it's been sitting a couple years and his old place had rats so they would make a home in there...i'm just now starting to clean the engine bay and everything. i'm not liking the suspension right now since it's sitting on Eibach springs and looks like they have some type of spacers... so wack... it's very soft so maybe that's why they added the spacers... i want to get new stiffer springs, what do you guys prefer? i didn't even drive this car yet... how much hp you think it even has?

newbie here... here's my 240z...
I just bought my bro's car that he sold to me... it's a 1972 datsun 240z. L28 motor with triple makunis/ITB's/webbers or whatever you want to call it.. holly fuel pump, msd ignition, and custom widebody on champagne gold... he gave me a good deal so planning to sell my ef because catches too much attention... i was working on one of the carb today because it was jammed but got it fixed. it might need rebuilding i'm not sure... it has been sitting since 03 so i just got it started today but it's been backfiring, might be one of the carbs or timing... the jets on one of the carbs might be bad or something.. my plan on this is prolly to either use the same motor and rebuild it for squeeze. either i do that or swap the motor and throw a 280zx-t motor and convert to fuel injection and boost the $^!# out of it.. ... not sure yet... i just want it running first...

Tachometer not working on 240z???
i have a 1972 240z i'm not sure why it's not working but does anyone have a diagram or picture of where the wires go from the back of the tachometer? i checked but no luck... doesn't the tach wire goes to the distributor if i'm not mistaken?
