Figure out, 300ZX has two bleed points for clutch.
  2. I found a braided line on ebay for like $25 so thought I would give it a try, about the same as a rubber hose. Let you know what happens, but you are right, fix the hose fix the problem
  3. Banjo, I knew it was some musical instrument, I was thinking tuba. Anyway, may be wrong, but the clutch just feels not as tight as the other cars with braided lines, but maybe my imagination. It is leaking (just small drips) so will probably have to replace anyway. But you don't think it will make any difference??
  4. I have a 300ZX and the stock clutch slave cylinder has a rubber hose running from the metal pipe to the slave cylinder (about 12 inches) Way too much flex in the hose and looking to replace with a braided one. It does not have a screw on both ends like my 240z, but screw on one end and the round piece on the other end with a bolt through it (forgot what it is called) See link: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd149/tvtanner/brakehose.jpg Any ideas where they stock these, or someone can make a custom one. Thanks

Well I followed everyone's instruction and even added a few and got it installed and looks good. However, and there always seems to be a however, the precut one I bought (I think it was Datsun Unrestore, or something) the vinyl was preglued to the foam so I left that alone. BIG MISTAKE. Following everyone's instruction, the paint sticks were the trick in particular I put the front in and then used 3 stir sticks and stuck them in the front to hold up the vinyl while I sprayed it and the top (the sticks were facing the back of the car, one on each side and one in the middle all facing the read of the car) That was the trick. After all was said and done the foam stuck great, but the vinyl that was already stuck to the foam from the parts guy, came lose, so the foam is stuck tight to the roof (the part I did) the vinyl that was stuck by the parts guy fell off. Not sure how easy this will be to fix, but screw it for now until it lands on my lap. Future warning, be sure the vinyl is well stuck to the foam. One other item, I took a plastic drop cloth and laid it all over the inside of the car to protect everything, that worked great even though that spray product does not splash much at all.

Getting ready to do, does anyone have any new ideas since this post in 2006? Or does anyone have photos, or even better yet a video?? Thanks

I am looking for a couple of 280ZX fender emblems that are in great to new condition. I have seen a few on ebay, but they are $70, or is the going price for those things. Don't have to be brand new, but at least in very good condition.
  8. I had a similar problem and it was the cable behind the dash was bending and not actually moving the thermostat. May not be the problem, but just another idea.
  9. Still working on the car and haven't taken any photos yet. Will try to get some more taken and put in a gallery something in the future. May take you up on the Z-event, I also have a 82 ZX which is my daily driver. Let me know when you have some events. Tom
  10. Yep, that was mine. I bought from a guy in Florida who was a little misleading as to the condition so I had the Z-Doc do some work. He is not the fastest guy in the world so it was there for sometime. Really does know what he is doing so it was worth the wait. Got a good deal on the car, so even though had a few issues, I can live with it. What brings you to see the Z-Doc in Roanoke?
  11. If the girl in the picture is included I would pay $2,800 without even looking at it.
  12. They are 16" with Khumos. Handles great. Is that your 510? Wish I would have kept mine I had when I was in HS (1973). Cool car and really fun to drive.
  13. I bought touch up paint from these guys and it looks close. They also sell by the pint, quart and gallon http://www.automotivetouchup.com
  14. Besides from my 72 240Z, I have an 82 280zx. This is a great car as it is still the basics of the orginal z, but has the great comfort features, T-Top, A/C, power steering, electric windows, etc. I use this everyday to drive to work and is a great daily driver. The 240Z is fun, but is not what I would want to drive to work everyday, especially with no A/C and wearing a suit to work
  15. Marc: Congrats on getting the lift up. As we discussed, I think this is the best deal on the market. If anyone else is looking for one, I can certianly recommend it. When I bought the price on ebay was the same so didn't have that option. What I did do was ask the sales guy what else he could give me if I bought. He threw in more drip trays and another jack tray stand which is nice because I can jack up the entire car. Anyway, ask the sales guy for some freebies if you order direct.
  16. I just installed a Greg Smith four post lift. Have my 240Z on top and my daily driver 280ZX on bottom. Really nice lift for the price. Takes about 8 hours to install especially since the directions stink. I have 10 foot ceilings so no problem for me, if you have lower ceilings, might be tough. Let me know if you have specific questions, or if you get one, specific install questions. I don't check the forum too often so can also email me. tvtanner@aol.com
  17. Jason: What do you mean the Graphite wheel paint? Is there a particular color you use, or place you buy at? I like the idea of using a satin clear coat as $28 ofr a spray paint can sounded high.
  18. I realize this is an old post, but need to paint the back panel. What is factory gray, does anyone have a sample paint code, or heck even a can of spray paint that I can buy at Lowes to use as a guide. Doesn't have to be exact, just close. Also, the front grill, was it a flat black, satin black or a gloss black, or really what looks best. Thanks.
  19. I agree with the choice of Avids. I have Khumos on my car, which are also a great choice,

If you are looking for a car, here is a great site that searches craigslist, along with a bunch of others. You can select the particular vehicle. http://jaxed.com/cgi-bin/ms.cgi?veh=datsun+1970s&state=&fil=&ys=&ye=&submit=go

I left the convertor on because even though Virginia does not have an emission test, my buddy who runs a garage said they are required to at least look to see if the convertor is installed on all cars after 1975. I do know it was a pain to replace the tailpipe, unless there is a secret, I had to remove the left half shaft. It is finished and sounds OK, not very loud though.

The convertor works, but is not in the best of condition and may need to be replaced in the future. Since I have the whole thing torn apart, this would be the time to put in the extra pipe. Obviously the company that makes Monza exhaust expect people to remove the convertor since they send the spare pipe with every unit, I didn't order it special. I just want to know if it will affect the performance of my car where I have to adjust anything, or if he will set off my check engine light, etc. I don't really care if it gives me more power, I just don't want it to drive the fuel injection or idiot lights crazy. I am sure someone else in this forum has removed the convertor?? For the little I drive this thing, the few thousand miles I drive each year, probably won't save the planet if I remove it.

I have an 82 280ZX, that I am putting a Monza exhaust system on. The system comes with an extra pipe to install if you want to remove the convertor. My question is, what will that affect in my car, will I need to do anything else, such as adjust timing, idle, etc?? This is and will remain a stock car besides this pipes (unlike my 240). The state I live in has no emission test so that is not an issue. Should I remove or just keep it on??????????? Thanks for any input. Tom

Agreed, I give them a stated value and then they send someone to look at the car to see if it agrees with my assessmet. IN the past the assessor is usually within $1000 of what I stated and since he comes to look at the car I can have a little influence over his opinion, better than taking photos and then mailing them to someone 1000 miles away.

I checked with them for my Triumphs and Datsuns, in all cases they were about the same cost as my local insurance company, without nearly the restrictions. With my local insurance company I can also give stated value (that they have to verify). Cost is around $200 a year for each of my cars. Only restriction is I have other cars as primary and drive less than 8500 miles a year. I have a clean driving record and have other insurance with this carrier (Erie Insurance), so don't know if they give me a good rate for that reason. If you know you won't be driving much and will be garaged, Haggerty's is great as is Grundy, but would still shop first.
