Air Dam
I had this air dam on my 260Z in the late 70's-early 80's. I bought replacement in the late 80's but the quality and fit were terrible. But it's still my favorite profile, more sculptural from the similar air dam offered by MSA. Where did you buy it? Thanks, Fixitman

260z early specs?
I also have owned an early 260Z (small bumpers) since 1978. The best source of info is the factory service manual. I suggest checking with Motorsport Auto for availability. I purchased a NOS copy from them about a year ago. In addition, pick up the fiche CD from Courtesy Nissan. The CD is invaluable for determining part numbers and interchangability between years. Good luck with the car. Fixitman

My air cleaner build
- My air cleaner build
A similar style air cleaner for triple Mikunis is shown in the attached photos. It was purchased from Jim Wolf's Import Auto Center in the 80's. The air filter is a K&N model E-2950, used in a Lamborghini Countach S. Fixitman- 260Z on Mecum Auction
Early 260Z's had offset license plate brackets and evap containers. Since my car was desmogged so long ago, I don't remember the orange plate near the EGR valve. It's probably a bracket for one of the pollution control devices. Fixitman- Stereo Replacement
Datsun made an antenna switch that was a direct replacement for the console cover. It's a rocker type switch. I purchased this NOS switch from Rod's Discount Datsun Parts (www.rodsdatsun.com) last year. I can hardly read his writing on the receipt but the number is something like 99993 or 7-xxxx. I haven't been able to find this part on the fiche but it's definitely a Datsun part. Fixitman- Door Jamb Spotwelds
On an original car, are the roof-to-door jamb and A-post spotwelds visible when viewed from the door openings? Thanks, Fixitman- Possibility for new 240Z Stebro stainless exhaust?
I had a 2.25" dia. S.S. system with a resonator, muffler and flanged connections fabricated from Borla components. In comparison, US$800.00 seems reasonable. I agree with Arne's suggestion on a user fabricated head pipe/header connection. Other suggestions include a resonator option for those tat want a little quieter system and wire/rubber isolator hangers as used in current exhaust systems. Fixitman- ID These Wheels Anyone?
The wheels in this photo are a similar basket weave style. I believe they were dealer installed in '74 when the car was purchased by the previous owner. The wheels were lost when the car was stolen in 1982. I always liked the basket weave style on the Z and replaced the originals with Ronal 3-piece modulars in the 80's. Fixitman- Found some Bilstein inserts.
Those parts numbers are correct for a 240Z-early 260Z. FYI, I purchased my Bilsteins for an early 260Z in 1984 for $77.35 each from a distributor called MIAH in Columbus, OH. I had a set of Bilsteins installed on my wife's 2000 BMW 528i in December. The ride is a little firmer that stock and very controlled. The ride also seems to improve as more miles are put on the car. Fixitman- Zappp ?
This is the company you are referring to. Fixitman ZAP.pdf- Koni Red Rear Shocks
I also had Koni's in my early 260Z in the late 70's/early80's. They were wonderful shocks, that transformed the handling. In case of wear, they are adjustable. For street use, they are fine just as set from the factory. I have a used front set to go along with your new rear set. They are in good condition and can be adjusted for any wear. Let me know if you are interested. Regards, Fixitman- whats the ideal Fuel line setup for triple carbs?
Thanks. The car isn't complete yet. Other issues have been more pressing over the last few months. But you can see about 40 photos at my Members Gallery taken during the restoration process. A few photos are seen belwo. Fixitman- whats the ideal Fuel line setup for triple carbs?
The photos show setup 2 utilizing the original fuel rail brackets with a vacuum line and canister purge to the balance tube. Fixitman- What To Do With Old Parts?
I was going thru my big box of old parts, trying to decide if I should throw most of them out or try to find a new home for them. Most of the parts could be used by someone. Some are re-cad plated but the cad color wasn't to my liking. There's a front engine cover, a R180 rear cover, thermostat housing, (2) front Koni's with maybe 40-50,000 miles on them, an E46 intake manifold with an air cleaner, interior door handles, (2) original front brake calipers, (2) original rear brake drums with 85,000 miles on them, and the list goes on a bit. Is one man's pile of used parts another man's treasure? Your thoughts? Fixitman- Need help with my 260 date of Manufacture!
My early 260Z has a 4/74 production date with a VIN ending in 32933. March or April would be correct. Fixitman- Electro-Plating Tailight Trim?
You might also try this company for rechroming plastic. They did a show-quality refinish to my 260Z tail light trim. The cost was $260.00 for the pair. The turn around time was roughly 4 weeks. Custom Coatings 4794-C Woodlane Circle Tallahassee, Fl. 32303 850-562-0538 www.customcoatings.net I believe they may even have refinished pieces on hand. Good luck. Fixitman- Recommendations for headers and a muffler on my 71' 240Z
http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31263&highlight=stainless+steel+exhaust http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32026&highlight=msa+exhaust I suggest reviewing the threads noted above for a 2.25" dia. systems that I used on an early 260Z. The header is no long available but the exhaust components can be purchased and customed fabricated to meet your needs. If you decide to use a 2.5" dia. systems, I have Borla S.S. pipes, muffler, tail piece and clamps for sale at a very reasonable price. Good luck. Fixitman- Eibach psrings arrived, WAY SHORTER than stock?????
Just in case you still need it, the spring data from the FSM for an early 260Z is attached. Fixitman SpringData-FSM.pdf- Audio Systems
Fixitman..... What do you have in mind? I was just interested in how/where our members were stalling audio systems. After seeing and reading about these hi tech systems, I'm feeling rather "period correct" at best, dated is a more accurate discription. In prep for the trimmer, I attached my brand new, early '80's speakers to the rear side panels and tail light access panels this week. These were state of the art back in the day, young men. ADS 320i speakers, separate tweeters and woofers with crossovers; ADS P80 stereo amp with a mega 40 watts per channel. All operated by a Nakamichi TD-500 tuner/cassette deck. The amp is installed under the passanger seat and the cross overs under the drivers seat. A simple system by today's standards but nicely integrated. Thanks for the photos. Fixitman- Audio Systems
I would be interested in seeing photos of audio system upgrades and integration with a description of the components. Thanks, Fixitman- Core support holes
