Original Toya Z-1 Spare Tire
I picked up the original spare to my early 74 260Z from the restoration shop yesterday. Base on appearances, the tire is in remarkable condition for a 40 year old tire. I don't see any dry rot or cracking. Silver stickers can be seen inside. I've owned this car since 1978. To the best of my recollection, the spare might have been used once for its intended purpose around 1980. Is it worth trying to sell with a disclaimer or is the liability too great? Your thoughts? Thanks, FixItMan

Looking for input on exhaust ideas.
If you are going to the trouble of installing a new header and custom fabricated exhaust system, you might consider installing a stainless steel system. Borla sells individual components, including turbo type mufflers, resonators, clamps and pipes. See my photos in the Members Gallery for a 2 1/4" dia. flanged system with a resonator. I have a number of 2 1/2" dia. components for sale in the classifieds and on eBay at very reasonable prices. MSA's fabricator can bend the pipes for you. If you are interested in this approach, I can provide their contact info. Good luck with their project. Fixitman

Three piece spoiler
The work was done by Pollock Auto Restoration / Ragtops and Roadsters in Pottstown, PA. Initially, we used modeling clay to sculpt the end pieces, trying to match the contours of the fender and sail panel. Modeling the spoiler with clay allowed us to adjust the height to get the scale just right. It was a fun exercise. Try a little of this, stand back and see how it looked, adjust a little here and there. After we were happy with the design, the metal tech fabricate the pieces to match and welded it in place. A few more photos are attached.

Three piece spoiler
You might consider having a 3-piece spoiler fabricated from sheet metal and welded to the car. See photos below for an example. Good luck with the project. Fixitman

Z Tool Set
Some where along the way, I acquired a jack, 17.5" long in the collapsed position. Decal shows a sedan. It looks partically identical to the shorter jack that came with the early Z cars. Does anyone know what cars and years this jack was supplied with? Thanks, Fixitman

I don't know the starting year, but the folding wheel chocks were part of the 280Z tool package.

Z Tool Set
I haven't had any luck finding a Z tool set in good to excellent condition. I need a lug wrench, jack handle and rod, tire stoppers, tool bag and lug nuts. Was this set used in any other Datsun of the era? Thanks, Fixitman

Headlight covers with chrome trim.....
Has anyone ever approached Altec Products to make the covers for the metal frames? Altec may have an economical method to product the tooling.

Anyone changed their headlights?
The best headlight options in the 70's and 80's were Hella, Marshal and Cibie, especially their "Z" beam model. Doing a quick Google search, it appears the "Z" beams may be out of production. But danielsternlighting.com and clearcorners.com offer 7" dia. Cibie headlights that look very similar to the "Z" beams. At $78-90 each, they are expensive but the lighting improvement is worth it. For more info, try a Cibie forum search.

What is the most stock-sounding exhaust?
If you decide you do not like it and a 2.25" dia. system is in your future, I have a Borla stainless steel muffler available at a very reasonable price. See the attached drawing for dimensions. It has one little problem. A tech mistakenly welded a flange on the discharge end. The flange just needs to be cut off and a tip added. If you decide to go with a 2.50" dia. system, I also have Borla S.S. components available for a complete system. The muffler dimensions are the same as the 2.25" muffler. The 2.50" system is available as shown in the photo or as individual items. Fixitman Borla-Muffler40652.pdf

Correct Tire Size for Stock Restoration
The Vredestein Spirit Classic is a good quality HR rated tire available in 175 HR-14. I just bought one as a spare. BTW, it fits in the spare tire well, where larger sizes may not. It is still available thru a few Vredstein dealers and Coker Tire. The best price I found was from EuroTire (Bill - 973-575-0080) in northern NJ. EuroTire can arrange for the Vredstein warehouse to drop ship the tires to you.

Now that's a brake upgrade!
What do you think of the 4-piston calibers, that were available thru Datsun Competition years ago, with stock rotors on a street car? Thanks, Fixitman

Replace or Keep Original Spare
I ordered and received a Vredestein Classic 175 HR-14 from Eurotire in north Jersey. If interested, call Bill at (973) 575-0080. He can arrange for Vredestein to drop ship the tire from the warehouse. Cost was $120.00 for the tire and about $20.00 for shipping. Anyone interested in buying an original Toyo?

The official "Post pictures of your wheels" thread
In the mid to late 70's I knew a guy with 3 piece BBS wheels with gold centers and Pirelli P7's on his 240Z. It was a terrific combination. Is anyone running vintage BBS wheels? Fixitman
