  1. UPDATE: I just received my MSA spook air dam. I can say that I am pretty satisfied with it. The mold is free of defects and the edges are clean and crack free. It looks to be quite thick and should hold up well. Pics to follow.
  2. Also get some literature. The key to success on any automotive project is knowledge. Finding this board is a huge step in the right direction. If you send me your email address, I will send you ALL the Factory Service manual for a 72, which have worked wonderfully for my 71, and should help you in 95% of your cases. Read read read. Get the book on Amazon, how to rebuild your Z car. Its great writing and very clear. It will give you a working vocabulary for these cars. And when it comes to asking questions, it will give you the needed background to really get the correct answers you need. Make a notebook of all your thoughts plans and ideas. Use it to keep a record of the work you have done and work you plan to do. Put photos in it, print things out and tape it in the book. It will become a valuable tool the more you use it. Put everything in it. Websites, local business phone numbers, notes on the quality of service you received. The notebook will be invaluable when it comes time to perform work and you have a healthy database of vendors, part numbers, costs. Keep it next to the computer when you are on this website, and when a tastey tidbit comes up, as it ALWAYS does, capture it by printing and taping it into the notebook. The knowledge on this website is not found anywhere else in the world. My notebook is growing every day. I keep updating it weekly. There is no substitute for knowledge and patience with a Z car. Its always better to take your time and do it right, rather than to do it twice. These cars are wonderfully engineered and for the most part easy to work on. I wish you luck with your car, and never hesitate to ask questions here. I have learned more from this website than anything else.
  3. you should... my clock has been working great since installed. No issues, and most importantly, no hacked up wiring!
  4. THats what I was thinking. Its a pretty popular body shop with the local Corvette club here. So they are not the cheapest in town. I think I can get them down an extra 100 bucks if I do not do the undercoating. I can buy that and do it, heck I have a POR15 kit just waiting to be used.
  5. 35 years young, here! And enjoying my 71 240Z and my 12 month old baby boy. I have never been happier in my life! A great wife, a wonderful son, and my dream car since I was old enough to hold a hot wheels.
  6. Just got my first estimate from the paint shop. To prep, paint and undercoat the three pieces that make up the lower valance, he wants 675 bucks. I think he caught me at a moment of weakness on the undercoat, so that was about 100 bucks, does that seem reasonable. My drivers side valance is in need of some attention.
  7. WEll I already placed my order from MSA for the ductless spook. Today, I am going to drag my front end pieces around to a few good paint shops and get some quotes. Now the only question left is to paint it body colored or a nice flat black. Mr. Geezer, you are making me lean toward painting it to match the car. You too Arne! Man, I remember when I just bought my car... HAHA..seems like it was only yesterday!
  8. Diseazd, your cars are actually what first inspired me to go the OEM route. Kudos!
  9. I use flickr, so I get it, thanks! Its the best photosite on the web as far as I know.
  10. I am wondering if anybody has the BRE spook front air dam and if they are settled on the quality. The classic datsuns air dam is made from the original BRE mold has had accolades from numerous people, but I really prefer the solid lip. MSA sells this, but I would like to know the quality and see a few pictures of them installed. This week I am looking for body shops to paint my front parts. Soon I will be rocking the OEM goodness.
  11. You know it did look like a bulb could fit there. Well, i am off to find a bulb! As usual folks, thanks very much!
  12. When I was installing my new refurbished Z clock in my 71 240Z, I Noticed at the top left corner of the glove box was a little white push button. Mine was not connected to anything, but later found the wire that it goes to. I did not see where a light would fit, what is this little button for?
  13. I need 4 of them. THe rest look fine. THanks!!!
  14. HELP... My corner valances came in as well as my center ones, and A few of those nut plates on the corners. Looks like a clip with a nut welded to it. Well the have some bolts have rusted and been twisted off. I need to find more of those nut plates that clip on so after I get these prepped sanded and painted, I can put new clips on. Also would like to find a place to buy the bolts that are factory spec to attach my valance pieces to the car.
  15. In this day and age of the small business vanishing, I was more than happy to spend my money with Ron. And the quality speaks for itself. I will be installing it today hopefully
  16. He charges varying amounts. Since I had an extra core laying around he charged me 100 bucks to do this. Which I think is astounding! I think without a core it may be 125 dollars, but I recommend talking to him. He is a very nice guy.
