  1. Man, lots of good help here. The parts for the Z are out there. I am still looking for a complete interior redo kit. I have a great condition black interior, but I really want a burgundy one..
  2. I drooled over this very pic when I was searching for my Z in 2007. That car has the look doesn't it.
  3. Seems we are living parallel lives. I really hope myself as well as the fine men and women of this site can help you. You will NOT find a better source of great knowledgeable people than on this classic Z board. Send me an IM here or on NASIOC. I have a couple of copies of the Just SU's DVD. I will send you one to get you started
  4. I got an 8 point west Texas deer Most expensive meat in the history of the world Had a revelation 2 days ago when I was putting the header and intake back on I have always done this the same way Put header on then install intake sans carbs Then install all the nuts on the studs at times contorting my arms in unnatural ways Then it occurred to me The two outer bolts and three inner bolts of the header have absolutely nothing to do with the intake So why not tighten those almost all the way first Less struggling with getting the washer/lock washer/nut on at crazy angles This was a revelation to me It makes it so much easier!
  5. Well I had a snag holding me up. Going to try my hand at Deer Hunting this weekend, but I am taking the whole week of THanksgiving off, so I will hopefully get some work done on the Z. I have too many hobbies.
  6. so basically all Z engines have to sound like they have valves tapping... HAHA Amazing engine for sure. That poor 1970's tach just cannot keep up. Anybody else think 50mm throttle bodies are a tad too large.
  7. Actually did some more research. They are called Bell Crank Bushings. And low and behold Ebay had them for 9 bucks! So sorry never mind!
  8. Well not sure of the actual name, but here is what I am talking about? I would be eternally grateful if anybody has a spare or two.
  9. I currently run the 6-2-1 header but I only went with one O2 sensor at the end of my Y pipe. I have been very happy with the results for many years. I have no idea how long the O2 sensor is good for, but she is chugging along with no issues. I have absolutely no idea if it is still accurate though I love me some SU's they are wonderful carbs.
  10. IT certainly does! did you go with the gasket Harada supplied. It looks far less robust than the Felpro I was using.
  11. Pray Tell where did you get those Velocity stacks! I would love some RED ones like that. and your engine bay is just reeeeeeeediculous! HAHA So beautiful Mike, I know how hard you have worked on that. Your car is inspirational! I can already see what you are talking about with having to move the throttle arms Mike. Yup. Will have have to do that as well I am going to give the push pull rods a try first. My car never felt better. However, if this works as well as I think it will, I will put the standard strength springs back into the webers. I installed stronger springs to help them return to closed. But they made my throttle pedal feel like a bowflex.
  12. I have been fighting with the throttle cable on my Triple Webers for years. Just never had that perfect OEM feeling the push pull rods gave me (after they were rebuild and in perfect condition mind you) So Mike W. was kind enough to put me onto the Harada manifold. This this has all the features I have dreamed of in a manifold. It has a cast in bosses to hold the teflon bearings for the throttle rod. The throttle rod is BEEFY so deflection is not an issue on the middle carb. It comes with a Cable guide that should you want to run a cable should make the throttle feel excellent. It also has a torsion spring on the end that is awesome. I had drawn up one like this in CAD years ago, but good to see somebody implement it. Most importantly I will be able to use the OEM throttle rods to actuate the things. I am so happy for this. I love how they look and I like the OEM nature of them. Plus they felt sublime on my SU's. Without further ado, I started tearing it apart today. Also working on the roadster as well. Pics! So the progress has been good. Amazing how easy carbs are to get off, when they have been removed like 5 times before. This will be the 3rd time I have swapped manifolds. Meh, what can you do. Gotta tinker.
  13. Watch out for altitude corrections on this head level calculation. Rho * G * H IN Colorado it may be a smidge different than in New Orleans. HAHA What a great idea man. I am so going to try this to see how close I got mine using the gage I bought from Keith.
  14. Well I decided to redo the manifold on the Z, but at the same time I want to go ahead and give the interior a fresh lease on life. I have been toying with the idea of going with a silver outside but with a RED interior treatment. I will not be changing the headliner, or the A pillars. This is my plan All Vinyl on seats Red/Burgundy All Vinyl on tunnel and cargo area Red/Burgundy All plastic bits in the back of the car, Red/Burgundy Carpet, black Headliner, Black A pillars, Black Question is can I get a burgundy vinyl versus a bright red. I will probably go ahead and put some POR on the floorboard and some NVH mat of come kind while I am at it. May polish my door sills. Anybody recommend another silver painted car with a different color interior? The Z goes on jack stands Soon. It will be back for summer with new interior, and a new manifold. Just hope I do not decide to go with DCOE 45's , you know, While I am at it....
  15. What side is the round rod end on the gas pedal you have lumens? I just bought a new gas pedal from Ebay the guy said was from a 240Z. I cut mine off to run the throttle cable (like a moron) so I need it back. Can you take a picture of the gas pedal?
  16. That is very kind bud. I have been driving her a lot more lately. And my love affair is back with a vengeance. My Z is about to get a lot more love (read as money) dolled out on it. To know I helped out my fellow man, well you just made my day buddy. My Z is not going anywhere anytime soon. Well unless some crazy person offers me obscene money for it... Nah, even then I am keeping it.
  17. Your not seeing it because it isn't there anymore! Truthfully, the frame rails are almost completely gone. Their should be square channels that run form the Tension Control rod toward the back of the car, and they are almost completely gone. Tell you what, if you have a sandblaster, start sandblasting the dogleg area and keep blasting until you hit nice hard metal. Take pictures of what is left. But first remove everything in the dash so as to not get it filled with sand. I love that you have such high hopes, but the dreams of kids with cars 'they are gonna fix up' are as plentiful as the water droplets in the sea. I had many bucketful's myself. It is part of the hobby. One day you will look back and laugh and know this is where it all started.
  18. Ah, the linkage on 240z triples, I have fought this good fight many times, and I am finally going to kill it. The throttle has never felt as good as it did with the OEM push pull rod set up. I have a lokar kit and I have never liked it. I added stronger return springs in my carbs and still it does not return all the time without a blip or two. And now I am stuck with the damn hard as hell to push gas pedal. I am dumping the cannon manifold for the Harada one Mike W put me onto. Larger beefier throttle control rod and it can hook up to the OEM push pull rod set up, which to me is far superior. My SU's were pure butter compared to my damn throttle cable. It is the one thing that can make a Z less than a joy to drive. My Roadster has a sublime throttle feel. The best my Z ever felt was when I had my new Ztherapy SU's with fresh OEM linkage. I want that back. Take your time bud. You will get it right.
  19. Wow, fantastic work bud! You work quickly!
  20. Sure, PM me or any of us if you need any other help or encouragement. The Z community is like no other. You will not find a more down to earth bunch of people.
  21. Sometimes we do not want to hear what we already know. But the fact that you do not want to hear it, does not make it any less true. Let me paint another picture for you. One less depressing. The engine and steering wheel and carbs are worth more than what you paid. You have well over 500 bucks of parts in that car alone. So chin up! You made a good purchase! I just paid 50 bucks for a spare 240Z gas pedal for an upcoming project. You have many many good parts on your hands that other 240Z owners will in fact need. So take a deep breath. This is my advice. I echo what others who are wiser than I am have said before. Start parting out the car. You will be shocked at what you find. You will also learn how to disassemble the car and learn how it goes together. This car will provide you with two of the MOST valuable things you could ever have. Parts and Experience. You ever wonder how all of us know a flat lined patient when we see it. It is because we have worked on cars our whole life. You want a better 240Z. Work hard at what you do. Be it your job or your schooling. Save some money and be a hawk about sticking to a budget. Then buy the best Z you can afford. Start seriously looking around 2500 bucks. You can save that. Restoring a car is not cheap. But it is doable. You have the perfect car to practice patch panels with. Practice welding. Practice wiring. Practice removing parts and learning how a Z is put together. Do not get down. Use what you have and fuel your dream.
