A converstion about how much compression is too much for pump gas
Just a note, I took my car out for a drive after she sat for over a month, I have had the same tank of gas in the car for 3 months. I know sad, but I have been busy with my baby boy. This is the same tank I reported with one bottle of octane boost in it that solved my problems. I currently run the following advance curve: 10.5 degrees at 900 rpm 20 degrees at 1680 rpm 30 degrees at 2500 rpm 33 degrees max at 3000 rpm I drove around for about 30 minutes yesturday marveling at how smooth my car drives. Loved it. On the way home in 100 degree heat I mashed the throttle wide open from low rpm in second and got the familiar sound of pinging. I put it in third and floored it and again got the familiar sound. It was isolated to when get over 50% throttle opening. I have done zero rejetting on the main jets and emulsion tubes since I put the triples on the new L28...I am thinking that I may be leaning out a bit thus promoting some pinging. I am going to rejet the mains to a larger Air corrector and a larger main jet. More pieces to the puzzle.

mechanical throttle linkage, what's the problem ?
If those are fresh rebuilds inlcuding the linkages, then I predict your problem will be a think of the past. I am eagerly awaiting an update buddy;

A converstion about how much compression is too much for pump gas
I tell you what happened. My 5 year old started kindergarten. Every day I am swamped explaining why you cannot talk without raising your hand or why the teacher cannot call on you every time... Lets just say my boy is very bright, but conduct is going to be an issue.... he is 'enthusiastic'...

mechanical throttle linkage, what's the problem ?
If that is the case, then this problem would be apparent on brand new Z cars with brand new carbs. Which it is not and was not. I still hold that this is a worn part problem, either in the ball and sockets or in the carb bushings

MUST GO - HLS30 00201 - Project
Said the pot to the kettle! HAHAAHAH You made me spit out my coffee on this one. Wife and I had a talk about this. She is saying what a rational person would say. You already have the same car. When are you going to have time to work on it. And the biggest question is this. What if the car is not complete? The true value lies in its early number, but if all the cool 69 parts are not there, then it will be darn near impossible to restore. Plus she pointed out that it will be at leat 5 years before I can have any time to do anything with it. She is talking logic, but I am wanting to buy with my heart. I will email Mr. Reagon today to ask some questions.

MUST GO - HLS30 00201 - Project
THat is the angle I want to play with the wife... the parts are like unicorn horns... But what I would really like to do is restore it for my 5 year old. Let him see it when he is like 7 and it can be a father son project! Hell I have learned everythign I would ever want to know about Z's. I have a ton of spare parts. I am going to email him tonight after I buy my wife a bottle or three of wine.

body looks complete. I wonder the condition of it under the hood and the frame rails and floorpans. working on a storage solution to this right now.

I am seriously thinking about buying this. If my wifes head does not explode when I mention it to her. I just need a place to store all these parts. Are their any pics?

What brand head gasket should I buy?

Sotck 71 240z carb problem
Glad to hear you got an improvement, but lets be honest. The carbs are over 40 years old. Your linkage ball and caps are worn, and mostly the bushigns on the throttle shafts of your carbs are probably worn as well. All of this adds up so a sticking throttle right at initial throttle application. I had the EXACT same problem on my car and it made taking off smoothly impossible. But I found the sure fire solution. I sent my carbs off to Ztherapy, who removes the worn bushings and replaces them with bearings! Hey also rebuild all the linkages on the carbs and CAD plate them to shiney new. When I sent them off, they were a sticky mess, when I got them back, without adjusting a thing, they were spot on perfect. Smooth gas pedal application, and felt like driving a new car. I am glad you got most of it fixed, but the truth is the bushigns in your carbs are probably worn a bit.

Tokiko HPS vs Illumina installation
If I already have my struts sectioned and I am running Tokiko non adjustable inserts, can I just pull those out and put in Illumina's for a refresh? I am curious as to if the sectioning portion is the same or if the illuminas requied a different length strut tube? Thanks, I was digging through my old records and found out my struts were sectioned and Tokiko inserts were installed in 1991. I was graduating high school

'73 240Z - The subtractive process...
such a great clean little car! Good work. the interior bits may not save you any weight, but that compressor on the passenger side of the engine probably weighs 40 lbs.

Finally part of the Z family!!!

mechanical throttle linkage, what's the problem ?
This is 100% a worn throttle linkage thing. I would bet the house on it. After I replaced the linkage (with new Ztherapy SU's) my car drove exactly like any new OEM car on the market, engine running or not. I had the smoothest pedal I ever had. NO sticking ever. It may not be about lube as much as it is about suble angles and worn ball and sockets. The first thing I would do to a new to me Z car is replace all those linkages with new ones or at least new ball ends.
