  1. All my new parts are on order. One thing I am left wondering is how do I get new rubber parts for the top of the tank and the tank straps? I figured I can get some thin rubber at the local home depot, but the thicker rubber on top is sure not to survive the tank dipping process that is going on now. speaking of which, they said they can line the tank with a teflon based coating. I told them to go ahead, as he said it was resistant to all modern fuels. they are also going to braze the tube fitting and pressure test the tank for me. The cost of the dipping, pressure testing, rebrazing, and coating... 95 dollars at the local radiator shop. Not bad. when I get it back, I will just POR the outside and start running hoses where they should. I picked up a set of fuel tank grommets for all the fuel lines going to my evap tank (zcarsource had a 71) and I got a new sending unit and oring while I was at it. This should turn out pretty well. I looked at my hoses from Courtesy, and they are the soft cloth braided kind. You have to wonder how old those hoses are. They feel perfectly pliable, but when was the last time Nissan made those hoses. Hopefully they will be okay. I will shoot some pictures today of what I have.
  2. Arne, I will be sad to see you go man. Your car and my car may have been made on the same day they were so close. Your advice has always been helpful to me and I appreciate everything you have done. I just have one other thing to say. Alfa GTV 1750
  3. A good tranny jack is not a wasted purchase either. It can make other jobs VERY easy as well. Like say dropping a fuel tank!
  4. Okay, I have established permission from the country airport manager to have our carshow on the ramp in front of the hotel. We can work out the details, but in general, it is limited to 60 cars, which I am sure we will not get close to. There is no fee. But it is contingent on if they are still using this airport as a forest fire fighting location. I will keep track of this up until the day of the car show.
  5. okay folks. I am taking the tank to the shop either today or tomorrow. I will post pictures of it as soon as I can. Also, my hoses came in from courtesy. I have decided to run all the proper hoses again. It will take me longer to get everything just right, but the car will be back to stock again!
  6. I would wager that if they held up to Adams Roadster around Laguna Seca...they would be fine for us.
  7. Dave I am still flip flopping on whether to get these. I would love to show them off on my Z for you. I think they do look spectacular. Do you know which size Adam is running on his Roadster. Are they 6" or 7" wide. They look fairly shallow.

  9. Well if you do, PM me and I can paypal you my 25 dollars to help you along.
  10. I will be happy to pay you that much right now, and even in advance if it would help you get started. I think 25 dollars for a useful tool like that is darn good value for money.
  11. Rooms must be reserved BEFORE nov 2nd
  12. Why couldn't they put the blinkers under the bumper like we have them in the US. It just looks weird with the cutout for the blinkers and nothing there.
  13. OKAY UPDATE: I have 10 rooms reserved for us the weekend of December 3rd. You have to mention that you are with the TEXAS classic Z car club to get the discount. I certainly hope to see many of you there, and I certainly hope my Z is running again. This gas tank project is growing every day.
  14. I am toying with the idea to remove the bumperettes off of my 240Z bumpers to get it closer to looking like the euro bumpers with only the horizontal bumper. But I would like to fill in the holes left with shiney chrome bolts. What have people been using to fill these holes?
  15. UPdated list So right now, my list includes the following: Zedyone CW240Z Ben's Z d240zx2 Zcurves steve91tt (you see I moved you up!) Mike W (if he is not in Asia) Burl We are growing every day!!!
  16. That is my bad. I have to reserve some rooms today. She will hold some rooms for me up to 10 if I give her my credit card. I will put the rooms under the name Texas Classic Z car club You can reserve a room under that name and get the reduced price. Burl, give me a day to get the rooms reserved. I also have to talk to the airport manager to get us a photo day on the flightline. Stay tuned!
  17. HAHA... yeah I hear ya, since I already have over a hundred bucks in lines on order already, I will take you up on your tank Zcurves THANKS!! By the way, what year is that evap tank? I mean were they all the same for all 240-280 Z's? I will check the gas cap. It is crazy tight though...
  18. Thanks so much! It has been quite a bit of work getting it there... Well, I know the line going back to the crankcase is plugged right now. Noticed that last night. So I would have to reconnect that if I decide to re-install the Evap tank. I am having a hard time justifying the expense versus payback right now. Seems to be Zero advantage to reinstalling the evap tank and the cost is not trivial. So how original do I want to be? Hummmmm
  19. This was the start of the adventure, Car up on jacks, radio going and I was prepared for anything. Well at least I told myself I was anyway. Next step was to get fuel sensor wires unhooked and remove the fuel-out and fuel-in lines that are located right next to the tank sensor. This was a piece of cake. Next I loosened the filler hose after removing the access door. That is when I noticed that my tank under the filler hose is bone dry. And has been for a long time. Also I noticed the filler neck is extremely soft and pliable. I think I may be in good shape there. But I did notice something on my small fuel out line to the fuel pump. More on that later. Next I got out my tranny jack and positioned it under the tank. This allowed me to remove the straps and slowly lower the tank so I could get to the rest of the hoses. That is where I had my first surprise. Three of the lines were blocked off. So that made think I should get to the inside of the car now to see what is or is not there. I removed the inner black plastic to reveal the filler neck. What is missing form this picture! Well this is when I decided to just halt all inside the car work and then take a look at the tank. So I had to drop it now. Well now that it was lowered a bit, the other hoses came off in a pinch, and the tank was quickly all the way down.. I rolled it out and took a look. Notice the plugged lines. Boooooooooo This the culprit of my gas smell I think. The smaller diameter tube coming out of the tank was noticeably moist. When I was removing the hose that was clamped to it, the tube actually rotated on the tank. Not good. I am relatively sure this is cause of my bad smell. But we will have to see. now I have already ordered the lines Arne suggested to order for this job, but I will need to source an evaporator tank first. Question is, is it worth all the trouble. For originality, I feel compelled to do this. But all the hose grommets in the car would need to be replaced as well. So I have some soul searching to do while I figure out what do to with the tank. The inside looks really good actually. On a few small rust circles on the bottom and the rest is relatively spotless. But I will need that filler tube fixed. A new reconditioned tank from www.zcarsource.com is 400 bucks when you factor in shipping. I figured I can get this tank boiled out and fixed for less than that. More to come.
  20. Well the tank is out and In the process discovered that like most 41 year old cars this one has a story. When I pulled out the inner plastic panels I discovered that my evaporator tank had already been removed! I then looked even closer at the tank and noticed that certain vent lines had been blocked off. So now I face a decision. Should I procure a new evaporator tank, or just clean things off, look for my leak and not worry about it. Tough call. Also my filler neck is very soft and pliable. I am debating if I should get a new one. Pictures to come later tonight
  21. If people cannot appreciate the clean look and installation of your car then they are not gear heads, they are car snobs.
  22. Great idea... I guess while I am at it, with the rear plastic panel off, I may as well paint it!
  23. THe repair process has begun. The car is on jackstands and today I drained the last bit of life out of the tank. IT was sort of sad. Next step is to look around for any known leak spots. The tank is very dry all over and shows no signs of leaks or runs. So down I am sure it will go.
  24. Well take it sort of easy on him. he is the only star we have left out there who actively proclaims his love for the old brand. Peter Brock also talks well, but Adam is a nut going to monterey and other historics. I think he is a bit of a tool at times on his show, but some of that is writing. I just think his timing is off or something. That show is getting better. I actually like the polar opposites of the wall street journal guy and the smoking tire guy. I cannot figure out how an NBA star has anything to do with anything.
  25. UPDATE: I have contacted the events planner at the hanger hotel and have made the following decisions for better or worse. I tried to take into consideration the holiday times and the weather. I also took into consideration some great advice Zcurves gave me. We have the weekend of DEC 3rd reserved with amended prices to give us a bit of a discount, room rates are now down to 159/night fri and sat which is not bad.: The schedule looks like this: FRIDAY Dec 2nd Arrive at the hanger hotel sometime in the afternoon on Friday December 2nd. Check in and get settled. Have fun in Fredericksburg on your own or with friends, go explore some roads and have fun. Meet for a dinner either at the hotel OR a designated restaurant (GROUP ACTIVITY) Saturday Dec 3rd Wake up at a leisurely time for breakfast (after all this is a vacation of sorts) Assemble for an morning cruse at 10am (GROUP ACTIVITY) Eat lunch after the cruise as a group or go your own separate ways for the remainder of the day. Saturday evening, I want to have either an impromptu car show for those who want to participate, OR another cruise Dinner at the hotel or in fredericksburg maybe hit up a local brewery. Sunday Dec 4th Sunday breakfast again at a leisurely time Assemble for a nice shot on the flight line in front of the hotel and airplanes. I have to contact the airport manager about this, but it is not at all uncommon for them to accommodate. (GROUP ACTIVITY) so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Break and say goodbyes and go home I do not want to make too many group meetings or the daily schedule to rigorous. I am counting on most people being independent and doing their own thing. There is NO SHORTAGE of fun to be had in and around Frederickburg. For those who want to stay together with their Z friends, that is awesome too. But the point of this is to enjoy cars, friends, and relax. Not to have every moment planned and have us all jumping from one activity to another. I hope that approach is acceptable. I only wanted ONE group activity a day, and the rest of the time you can spend just sleeping, seeing the sights, shopping, eating, driving, etc. Going off in groups or by yourself with your spouse or alone. Does not matter to me. This is a getaway for you. I want to invite the first Gen RX7 club of houston and the british car club of houston if that is okay. They are a fun bunch of guys and love the classic import car hobby as much as we do. also if you know of any folks with classic Porsches, they are more than welcome. I do not expect a large turnout, but we may be surprised! Anyway. If there is enough interest, I will get some decals made up and maybe some Tshirts. Stay tuned. This is picking up momentum slowly. Summary of who is a going to make it. So right now, my list includes the following: Zedyone CW240Z Ben's Z d240zx2 Zcurves steve91tt (you see I moved you up!) Mike W (if he is not in Asia)
