  1. http://www.testdrivemylife.com/my ramblings/6-top-tips-for-a-tip-top-blog Take a look at my website. I point all new shoppers to my questionare located in the 'so you want a new car' post. It will make you ask yourself some hard questions, and if you are quite honest with yourself, you will feel better about your eventual purchase.
  2. I am still totally in for a set if the quality is what I am thinking it will be !
  3. What an amazing coincidence. Just last weekend I was leaving the car show at night and when I turned on my lights, I had no dash lights or running lights. Me thinks it I have a combo switch issue, as I cannot get any voltage to come back from the green and white wire back to the car. Headlights work, but they get constant power I think. Blinkers work, and flashers work. But no dash lights. I sent both my stalks to Dave the man Irwin. However playing with my turn signal, I noticed why my blinkers would never reset after I turned the wheel. The factory grease had hardened like syrup. I sprayed them off with WD40 and whala, the little spring activated plates got nice and snappy again. Dave will finish the job I am sure. My car was a 7/71. Never had an electrical issue with the car in 9 years. This is my first. This is one time I am glad my car has not been chopped to hell by a previous owner. Originality works in your favor here.
  4. That makes so much more sense to me. As they appeared very wide for 205's. I am glad you like them. They look really good on your car. Hopefully they will look as good on my car.
  5. Was it hard to get the center caps on? Do we still need to hammer in the dust covers on the front?
  6. Good to see on a silver car as well ! They look darker than I thought they would on my car. We will see. I am chasing a rare electrical condition. My dash lights and running lights just decided to stop working saturday night. Sending my combo switch off to Zs-Ondabrain for a refurb so at the very least I can scratch that off my list.
  7. Best depends on your specific condition. A really great thing to do is to buy a Ztherapy redo of your carbs. When you get them back, they will be perfect and when troubleshooting other things, you can definitely count out the carbs. When solving car problems you are often faced with many possible causes for a specific issue. The more can eliminate the better. Getting the Ztherapy treatment is a great way of having a good known carburetor. But it is not the cheapest solution. You car needs some TLC and much of that can be accomplished with a methodical slow approach to the problems. I wish you luck!
  8. Wha hoo. I am bringing a new comer who just bought a 280Z to the show. We will be staying locally. I cannot wait to meet all of you. The chance to drive on COTA is worth it all by itself!!
  9. My personal preference is no side skirts, BUT yours are so nicely integrated I think they look pretty darn nice. The limiting factor for most Z owners is the front tires. IF you have an aftermarket front lip then you are free to run 225's at will. The oem 240Z body work makes that darn near impossible.
  10. Well sometimes I just want to tinker with the cars. I tend to want to try new things, and then talk myself out of it AFTER I buy new stuff. I have even considered doing a G nose conversion just for kicks. I mean if I am going to do paint, I may as well DO IT ALL. But a part of me wants to keep the stock lines of the Z. Their are already so many cars with fender flares and ultra wide tires. A stock bodied Z is tough to find. Mostly I really want to spend time wrenching on all my cars. The Z has been a joy to own and drive. I will probably regret putting on the dark wheels and vinyl stripes, but I feel it may be fun change for a while. We will see. I really admire your collection and the depths you go to make your cars beautiful. You have an eye for detail I truly respect.
  11. What is correct? To have the block cut out or solid? I was planning on getting another new set of side badges anyway. Should it be solid or should their be a hole. My gut tells me it should be solid.
  12. My growing collection of 45's agree. siteunseen, well I will take my Karma then with pride, knowing I was able to dip into your wallet. HAHA. I will have to find that link to the decals you mentioned. I was just going to go with the MSA ones, but if their is a better source, then I am all for it. Thanks for the clarification Guy. The one thing that all this tire size hinges on is the offset of the Konigs. Are the Zero like my beloved Panasports? If the Konigs are 0 offset is it really a true zero or just close. How wide is their 15x7 wheel compared to the panasports 15x7? So many variables to consider. These wheels change the whole character of the car to me. The black MSA konigs are the kind of wheel you do not even try to run centercaps on. The are an all business wheel. The Panasports are the wheels that would be on James bonds getaway car. Either way it is good to have options. Guy, do any of your cars have the size 240Z stripes on them?
  13. I am probably going to go with 205/55/15's again. I know they fit and look good on the current car. I have also decided to put the 240Z sticker on the side of my car like the car came with again. Site Unseen, I blame this one totally on YOU! Your car looks so good with it. So while I am at it, I may as well get new datsun side emblems and while I am at it I may as well replace the hood emblem and the rear vents. Do you see what you are costing me !!
  14. Great to hear it person whom I am still crazy jealous of the fact that you have those headlight covers...
  15. So a 225/50/15 is exactly equal in diameter to a 205/55/15 23.9" The issue is the width. The wheel does not pivot through the wheel, more so of the hub a bit behind the wheel. This means the front outside of the tire moves forward a bit more and may hit the body. Would need to see some pics of some Z's on 225/50's.
  16. Mike your car is always stunning. I recall your 225's looking very beefy at our rally. I will have to run some numbers on the 225/50 and how it compares to the 205/55 or 205/60 by the way, I have decided to go ahead and get my Z painted. Probaby going to use your guy in Austin you recommended. Thinking later in the year, but I think it is time to make another investment.
  17. Lets be completely clear, yes, I love my panasports. They are perfect in every way (Guy looking at you bud! ), but sometimes you just want something different for a while. Can you have too many swiss watches? Can you have too many .45 caliber Firearms? Is it possible to have too many vintage cars? I say no too those and many other questions like...No honey I have not had enough cookies today. So I could no longer resist the temptation of the satin black konig rewinds sold by MSA for 479 shipped. So badda bing one click later they are on the way. Lets talk tires. Recall I have tried three different sized on my 15x7 wheels up to this point. 205/60/15 with front fiberglass spoiler lowered a bit on tokiko springs and struts was fine 205/60/15 with OEM bodywork lowered on tokiko springs and struts were NOT fine 195/60/15 with OEM bodywork lowered on tokiko springs and struts were fine 205/55/15 with OEM bodywork lowered on tokiko springs and struts were fine 205/55/15 with OEM body work lowered a bit less on Eibach pro spring and tokiko struts are obviously flne So having said that, I have more 15x7 wheels coming in that will need tires. Since I raised my car up a tad I was thinking of trying 205/60/15's again. I know Guy is a big fan of the 205/55/15, but I was wondering with the 3/4" of ride height if I moved the wheel far enough down the arch of the front OEM bodywork if it would fit. Not sure. I am also thinking of adding the stock 240Z side sticker that runs along the bottom of the door and sides of the car. Yes the same side sticker I peeled off when I bought it... Don't judge me!
  18. That really depends on your car and your suspension set up. I have had issues with rubbing using 205/60/15's. But 205/55/15 seem to be okay. That was before I installed new springs and struts so now all of my knowledge is out the window. I raised the car about an inch so can I fit more tire now.. not sure. Probably. But how much. Unfortunately no way to know as even the same size tire can have quite different widths and diameters. Some people say they have a 205, but it is as wide as a 215. Unfortunately, their is no standard as the tires differ so much in design. This is where you really need a good relationship with a local tire shop which will allow you to try different sizes.
  19. Mike W from this sight was kind enough to remind me that this year Austin is hosting ZCON. I have never been but since this is a mere 3 hour drive as the Z flies, I am darn sure going. I would like to find out who from Houston area is going and maybe we can meet up for some much needed car talk and time away from regular life. The event is June 20th - 24th. http://zcon.org/conventions/2017/index.php/sessions/ Lets get those Z's from Texas to represent! Also, if there is already another thread, I did not see it..
  20. Since I installed my new suspension I sit about a half inch higher than I use to. I wonder if I could run a 60 series profile now instead of a 55. I may have to try if I ever get around to wearing out these things. I think I only have 2000 miles on them also Lumens, silver with burgundy.. DROOOOOOL
  21. I am very humbled and thank you very much for taking your time to read my simple thoughts
