  1. When I was searching for pics of installed ITG's, I had a hard time finding them, so not that mine are in, I wanted to post some pictures. I am still working on the carb bowl vents locations. I am not happy with them as is, but it will work tolerably for now.
  2. Well I have just finished my diff clunk investigation (positive results so far) and when I snapped this pic it looked like my car was sitting uneven. When I measured my right side was a about a 1/2" lower than my left side. Now my car was on ramps in the front and jack stands in the rear for over 2 months. I am wondering if my suspension just needs to settle again after being fully extended for so long. At the time of this picture, I have not driven it out of the garage yet... weather was horrible.
  3. Shes Alive! Today my Z fired back up to life. It was pouring outside, so I refrained from driving her. Initial results are hard to quantify. I am optimistic. The clunk if its still there is much quieter. I will know more when I get a chance to drive it around for a while. I cannot wait. I would love to drive it to work this week one time. But its was good to hear her breath again. SU's make a nice sound un-muffled. And finally, she is resting back together. We have made her stronger, we had the technology, the time and determination. Most of all, we had help, from the people on this website. I salute all who were able to help me through this process.
  4. I have one of those blessed days MOnday where my kid will be at day care, and my wife will be at work and I will be at home with the car...<sigh> what bliss! I managed this past weekend to screw up my ITG air cleaner backing plates drilling holes for the vent tubes from the carb. So unfortunately, no answer yet. But the car will be driven Monday! And I will report back then. I have new ITG backing plates coming from MSA, and finally found the right hardware to handle all my vacuum tube needs. Pics to come soon. The Z will be rolling in time for Veterans day!
  5. I had thought the vent lines on the carbs were to suck the vapors out of the top of the fuel bowls. But if they are just vents, then it opens up more possibilities to be sure. However, I thank you for defining what the last mystery line was. I think that fuel vapor line should still be given a vacuum source. I have that covered.
  6. I want to install a set of ITG's on my 71 Zed. I like the look, and I will never outgrow them. So they are sitting in my garage and are the last things I need to hook up to end my 2 month down time in clunk elimination mode. Now having said that, there are 4 lines that go to stock air box. 2 carb vent hoses 1 vent tube that runs to a junction box beneath the coil that I have no idea where it goes 1 large tube to the valve cover, which just pulls the pressure and gasses out. I have gone the route to replace the valve cover hose with a breather like many others have. now I am left to hook up these vacuum lines to the back plates of the ITG's. I am having a hell of a time find a good screw on nipple to hook these lines up with. What do people do who take off the vacuum lines and install webers or mikunis. Or just the K&N twin cleaners, which is essentially the same thing as I have. I either need to find out how hook up the vacuum lines to the back of the ITG's or reroute the vacuun lines elsewhere. What have other people done when they replaced the stock air box
  7. Welcome indeed. Any true gearhead such as yourself is great to hear form.
  8. Just to be safe, I changed my tranny fluid. You fill a manual tranny up until it comes out of the fill hole right? 1971 4 speed manual. I know its a silly question, but it seemed like I put more in it than 1.5 liters.
  9. I really feel like standing and clapping. I am transitioning from my younger more power turner days to my older classic close to stock is fine days and there is so much truth to what Carl just said. Its all too easy to get caught up in the make it better, faster, quicker, but you have to take a step back and see what your going to use the car for realistically. Sure 250 HP would be nice, but does it really make the car that much better. A strong stock 240Z is far form lazy. And keeping close to that is a great way to take a step back and feel what the car was meant to be. And never forget, its ALWAYS more fun to drive a slower car at 10/10ths, than it is a faster car at 7/10ths.
  10. I need the ones that go between the SU's and the filter mounting plate. They actually sit against the SU's
  11. does anybody else think the engine looks pretty dirty for a car with only 49 miles?
  12. I have looked at black dragon, and MSA, would Ztherapy sell those separately?
  13. Well my tranny mount from ebay seemed to do the trick. I got my driveshaft back from the shop with new ujoints installed and had it balanced. Not sure it was completely necessary, but it was one of those while I am at it type of things. The running gear is competely hooked up and ready to roll. All that is left to do is hook up my vacuum lines to my ITG air cleaners in some manner and she will be back on the road after a total refresh. Summary of work done in the past two months: New Steering rack bushings New Poly steering coupler New Tranny Mount New Front Diff Mount New Poly Mustache Bar Bushings New U-joints in the half shafts New U-Joints in the Drive shafts Drive shaft balanced All bolts cleaned and anti seize applied All parts sanded, primed and painted chassis black Diff fluid changed Tranny fluid changed ITG air cleaners with custom modified air horns installed New fuel filter All New vacuum hoses It was a lot of work, but I cant say I did not enjoy it. Looking forward to stretching the old girls legs again.
  14. Its coming to Houston as well, and the local Z club is planning on attending. I will definitely be there!
  15. Um, even I think that is a bit steep. I want the value of our cars to go up, but 40 grand is quite large for a factory 1997 recondition.
  16. Don't put too much stock in that backlash 'feel'. I thought the same thing about my stock diff. So much I ordered another one. Well lo and behold that one had exactly the same feel as mine. I thought my clunk was from the diff, but it turned out it was from the tranny mount. So, it sounds like your doing diligence in your search, good luck.
  17. I used the Falkens for my last season of autocross in Houston in my Subaru WRX STI. They are very sticky tires. I plan on putting them on an extra set of rims for when I take the Z autocrossing. I cant wait!
  18. Where is the fill on the4 speed tranny. I am about to drain my fluid to change it out, but realized I do not know where the fill plug is. The drain is easy, but the fill was not just jumping out at me. Which side is it on?
  19. is there a code to get the discount? I have not invoked my discount rights! DRAT!
  20. kudos for using the Architecture blue prints for paint sheilds! My brother would be proud. I have used engineering drawings for many creative things!
  21. One of the local Z Nissan Dealerships was taking delivery of a new GTR and they invited the Z car club of Houston out. So we saddled up and went to take a look. There was many more, but I thought I would throw a few of my favorites up.
  22. I believe that in that size you can get a set of Falken RT-615's. What I like to call the best budget Autocross tires you can buy. They flat out stick and are very reasonably priced. Check out www.vulcantire.com
  23. I understand Arne, you never said that, I tend to act on impulse at times, and when I saw a part that was correctly made, the strangest thing happened. An uncontrollable urge came over me to buy it without question. It was peculiar. I feel it happening again with a Monza exhaust.. wAIT.. Its happENinG.. CANT stoP...
  24. Thanks, I did get one off ebay, from the seller Arne pointed me to. His shipping is very high (especially since we are both in Houston), but after my refund from Black Dragon, its almost a wash. It has taught me a valuable lesson. Check with this board first, then the dealer second. MSA and BD are great and all, but the factory still supports these cars quite a bit, and I need to take advantage of that.
