  1. Okay, this is the color combo I am going to try to replicate... With the wing matching the rear tails, I think it looks less 'afterthought-y' OH I have also ordered the euro bumpers. Now if only somebody would make affordable clear head light covers with the stainless trim. Didn't somebody start a thread on that a while ago.
  2. sleep well little ones... Don't let the rust bugs bite
  3. You guys have some beautiful automotive playmates! and Dat Boat..Helloooo nurse.
  4. Guy, curse you as you may be right. Not sure though. I am going to paint the BRE one to look just like the rear tail like finish surrounds first. If I do not like it, I will have to get it repainted the body color. Only problem with that is I will have to take it into get paint matched, $$$$$. I recall my front valance was right at 500 bucks. OUCH!
  5. Great question Pmg, I did not buy mine the PO did, so it appears to fit okay. IF it had any work I cannot tell. I know the corners are all rough and not crisp like I would want. I think I am going to go with the BRE one in hopes the original mold is better. We will see.
  6. That is brilliant. There is a chap here a NASA I work with that restores these things. People who restore tools used to create other things are very dear to my heart. What a wonderful undertaking. I did just add this to my garage. Sold my WRX and moved up to an 'adult' car
  7. Dave, send me your address again.. I may have a NOS brand new hazard light for ya. Totally off topic, but if I can find it, its yours.
  8. correct, What I wonder is if they will fit on the 240Z seat brackets? I have no idea.
  9. I am trying to order a spoiler now from BRE. I will order some paint as well to match the rear tail light surround. This way I will have both, a body color and a darker grey. This is my last splurge until I start my saving for some kameari seats. It is either these or a leather redo of my OEM seats, which look lovely now, but I think really need some new foam!
  10. Oh no judgement on better or worse, just different. The BRE has 6 mounting points. The MSA has only two. That is all I was saying. I will probably order a can of tail light paint from http://www.classicdatsun.com/ And I plan to run a BRE spoiler when I have time to find one. Like the contrast as well. The only question is do I get one with the flat part for the 240Z badge or plain. I am kind of partial to the plain.
  11. Well here it is. This is just plasti-dip flat black. I think if I painted it the same color as the rear tail light panel, it would look better. But overall, any opinions? One interesting thing. My car at one time had the BRE 6 bolt spoiler on it. I had holes drilled for it. However my current spoiler appears to be an MSA version with only 2 bolts holding it at the very outer edge of the trunk lid. One great thing that came from all of this is I reshimmed the hatch, and now all my squeaks have stopped! It was a very loose fitting trunk hatch before, but I took all but one shim from each side and it closes with an almost European thump now. I am VERY impressed at how well it turned out (read as: I got lucky) Hurray
  12. I have that shift knob in my roadster..So that is where it comes from!!! OH I don't like it much. I want to put a Z knob in roadster. But need a 5 speed version.
  13. I think I may try my hand at plastidipping the OEM spoiler. That way if I like the look, I can get a new BRE style and actually paint it black, or if I do not, I can peel off the 'dip' and have my OEM one back to glorious faded 901 silver.
  14. Well I have the spoiler off the car. I may paint it dark and and see if I like it, if i hate it, I can always sand it again and repaint it body color.
  15. I am still mad at you for getting those sweet dark grey panaorts
  16. Your car are always a fantastic inspiration Guy! But it sounds like I could go either way if it was an owners choice. I may paint my current one the same as the rear tail light panel, or an even darker flat black like your front spoiler Guy. Then I will order a new BRE style from BRE or MSA. The spoilers on your cars, are they MSA? Do they use the two bolt attachment or the 6 bolt?
  17. I have been itching to try to put a more accurate fitting BRE replica rear spoiler on my car. So I pulled mine off and I need to do some tiny little scratch touch ups. While I was doing that I thought how some cars really looked 'the business' with a black rear spoiler. What color were the spoilers when the dealer added them? They did paint match them. Datsun did not supply the car with rear spoilers did they? If I wanted to put on an accurate rear spoiler, which one would have been picked back in the day. I am thinking of going with a BRE from www.bre2.com and order from Gayle and Peter. But should I get it paint matched, or should I just paint it the same color as the rear tail light panel? What was the typical way they came?
  18. I can definitely vouch for Datsun spirit, the quality will amaze you. He has build me a fantastic running L28 short block, and it has been on a 1000 mile rally and never missed a beat. It has also been driving hard and casually around town, equally happy to do whatever I ask of it. Keep up the good work Dave!
  19. I need to get a new gasket for the firewall. But took my first drive today. The gas pedal travel is truncated a bit compared to my throttle cable, but the feeling is direct and so smoooooooth. My throttle cable never felt 'right'. It worked okay, but it hung up and did not return to zero so to speak so often. I also after driving with this manifold I think I was only ever getting 75% throttle for the longest time. I gave her a good romp in first and second, and my car has never revved that hard and that fast ever. I do not think it was the manifold with it larger runners, but that may have helped. I know my L28 likes the added flow and seems to respond to it immediately if not sooner. Makes me think DCOE45's would be even better. But that is another story. Idle is spot on perfect at 1000 rpm and I cannot even feel the engine running. Overall, I am thrilled with this swap. I also finished my fluid flush on the roadster and fixed an oil leak on the oil pan drain plug on the roadster as well. Overall a Very productive day. Now to kick back, and have brew, as I have earned it. Some pics of the stable. Oh, I picked up a set of genuine Coco mats for the roadster. They look the business, I think the Z may getting a set soon.
  20. I will snap a pic of the linkage tomorrow I promise
  21. Marty your Z was one of my inspiration pictures when I was deciding what to do with my Z. Such a sweet car buddy!
  22. I am happy to report that I finished the intake swap and the OEM push pull rod throttle linkage is working beautifully. The large diameter intake runners seem to have not had a noticeable effect on idle AFR so far. Also of note, the Harada has completely isolated intake runners. The cannon connected them all. I have not seen what effect this will have on the brakes yet, but time will tell. I synced the air flow the carbs far easier than ever before. Since each cylinder is completely isolated, differences in air flow were able to be individually adjusted. Luckily each carb was flowing identical in each barrel, so all I had to do was to get the air flow to match carb to carb. I do not think I have had such a nice idle in a while. I have not driven it yet as my roadster is on jackstands blocking in the Z. NOte to self, never start two projects at the same time...
  23. I had my OEM one recurved by www.advanceddistributors.com They made my Z run very well. It was OEM with a custom recurve and a pertronix. Loved it. I think I still have it.
  24. I installed a prototipo momo wheel in the past in my Z. I took it off after a while. I just did not look 'right' if you know what I mean. The wheel gets closer to you as well, and it changes the perfect driving position the OEM wheel gives you. Let me see if I can find a pic. To me that just looks tiny. IF they made it the full size of the OEM wheel but with that style, it would be great. 350mm is just too small to my eyes. A larger thicker wheel would be great. I always thought the 280Z wheel is nice looking and has the dish.
