  1. I wish there was a correlation between Webers and Mikuni's. Right now I have just about got my WEbers running perfectly. Still not happy with my linkage from the pedal to the throttle lever, but other than that, I am a jet away from dead nuts on. If there was a comparison chart we could cross reference. But the variables are so infinitely diverse, then it may be impossible.
  2. Chuck I got your parts, Thanks very much, they look splendid! You are a great man sir. My Z thanks you!
  3. I had to cancel my quick steering knuckles from MSA as they are not available for 4-6 weeks... Boooooooo On a brighter note, I just saved 320 dollars!
  4. Great! If it breaks, then techno tuning will be getting a call. But for now, I am going to keep the faith.
  5. No I am installing the ball/socket set. I am removing the hardened poly bushings on both sides of the TC rod.
  6. Last night I spent a couple of hours cleaning bolt threads and washers. Not the most glamorous work, but pays dividends in the long run when it comes time to reassemble.
  7. It has a roll bar and a wink mirror. Yeah, this car was raced. But who cares. It definitely does not have 4000 miles on it. But who cares. It is yours now and it is time to start your story.
  8. How much for the red tape bud. Mine is gone now, and I could really use some to redo mine... The tape I bought at the auto parts store just keeps burning off.
  9. Well I said the hell with it, I ordered the quick steering knuckles but NOT the bump steer spacers. I could not find any reviews of them and whether they will really help. My car is not THAT much lower than stock, so while my LCA in front are not in OEM position when the car is still, I cannot imagine it is enough to really screw anything up. But I will keep searching for any reviews. I also ordered some rubber bushings for the TC rods. I have the ball/socket kit, but the poly bushings I had are just do darn hard, I wondered if I could get the correct length using the little spacer. Today I spent the day with a grinder and some VHT chassis black.
  10. The best advice I can give you is go to HybridZ and do a search for brake jobs. There is a sticky there that outlines the entire brake swap caliper/master cylinder combo you will need. It will save you a ton of time and money
  11. Very nice Jim! Look forward to meeting you one of these days!
  12. That is so true. I would recommend first and for most doing a complete tune up. Flush out the fluids, brakes, etc. Then check hoses, belts. Look for old decaying vacuum hoses and change them. Get the FSM and have it handy in your garage. Most of all, congrats!!!
  13. Not sure, but that is a lot of tire. What are you plans for power to turn those massive tires.
  14. might be over 3000 dollars. HAHAAH I promise you it will be, that is if Dave does not try to talk you into a 3.0 rebello for 9000 dollars. I only say that as in the three times I called him to rebuild my stock L24, he had tried to talk me into a 9000 dollar rebello stroker all three times. I do not totally blame him, as that is his ace in the hole. But the pressure sales pitch turned me off. NO doubt he builds wonderful motors that would run for years!!!!! And for the record Dave was very friendly the whole time. Easy to talk to, but he is quite the salesman! I would say give Eiji a call at Datsun spirit, and just talk to him. Not one time over the phone or via email did he ever try to upsell me one time. And his work is mind bendingly thorough. He will create a photo bucket account for your build. Mine has 167 photos in it right now. I am quite simply blown away. However, should you try to rebuild it on your own, that is certainly a great idea as well...just read as many books as you can. remember, knowledge = HP, money is just a catalyst. Blues budget breakdown is really pretty darn close to reality. The HP is in the head. And that is where you money should be spent.
  15. Okay guys, I am nearing the point where I want to start putting my Z back together, and while cleaning off the steering knuckles I thought to myself, 2 things. 1) Now would be a really crazy ideal time to install the quick steering knuckles and 2) Since I am running 15" wheels, and MSA sells bump steer spacers that are suppose to correct for this 'misalignment' due to lowered cars, (tokiko springs and struts), are they really necessary? Has anybody else used either of these products?
  16. HAHAHA I just just buy simple green by the gallon! hahah
  17. It often goes back to rules requirements. I designed the roll cage/frame in our baja car in college. We had a specific moment of inertia requirement against bending. The rest of the choice was due to weight, ease of fabrication, price, etc.
  18. Thanks so much Chuck! You really went above and beyond buddy.
  19. Correct, I rolled mine on a flat piece of bench and one wobbles the other is dead flat when it rolls. Gnose, I agree with what you say, but having adjustment of the length of the LCA, plus adjustment of the TC rod, I just figured I could honk something up. But you are correct with just let an alignment shop do it. I just figured purchasing one from a member was a much more cost effective way to solve my problem. If I were to start making my car a more dedicated track car, I will have to revisit both the front and back of the car. AZC may get a call.
  20. Do me a favor, can you roll the TC rod on a table to see if it is straight. (No disrespect intended) I thought mine was perfect until I rolled it on a flat surface. It would be heart breaking to get parts in and find out it wobbles when rolled Sorry, I hated to ask you to do that.
  21. Chuck you have been sent cashola. Thanks for your generosity. Frank, I would think your early 70 would have a different ball joint than my late 71. I remember something about that.
  22. Just let me know how you want payment!!! paypal certified check passenger pigeon rare earth minerals Old NASA space hardware You have a deal bud
  23. So techno toys = 595 dollars Futo Fab = 465 AZC = ????? Just buying the OEM lower control am and TC rod from Zcarsource.com = 140 bucks Still the new fancy shiny stuff is enticing!
  24. Double DRAT I was cleaning parts to reassemble and the TC rod on that side is also slightly bent. SO it would seem now I need an entire side replaced. I can promise you I did not hit anything. What I think happened is that somebody jacked up the car on that side once upon a time. There is a slight bend on the bottom. now having said that, I am NOT sure it was not bent before I let the group of Cletus's (no offense to anybody named Cletus out there) at this machine shop press it out. But no way I can prove it and no way they will admit to anything so we still come back to where I am at. I need a new lower control arm and TC rod. I already purchased the Poly bushings for the lower control arms, AND the ball and socket TC rod ends (which will replace the hard as hell poly bushings people warned me against when I first installed them). The AZC and the FutoFab gives similar adjustments tlorber. Here is the thing though. Those types of adjustments are only good if you KNOW WHAT your doing. I use to autocross my subarus rather extensively in SCCA type stuff a couple of years ago. I kept my suspension pretty much stock and just kept practicing while my friends tinkered with adjustable this, adjustable that every run and never got anything settled in hoping for that magic WOW moment where the suspension would make up for ham fisted driving. I would pony up for the Futofab or the AZC or the techno Toys, if there was a good baseline setting I could get her close to OEM but maybe a bit better. If not, I could easily do more harm than a well sorted OEM fitment. As for my garage, yeah, I keep it mopped and shined up before during and after every job. In about 3 weeks there will be an engine/tranny swap. But that is an entirely different thread!
