I talked to my buddy this AM, and he said that shortly after selling me the one I have, he sold his other set for over $250 on ebay. I tried...

I have a friend here who sold me the set-choke and hand throttle with cables. I am almost certain that he has another. Give me a few days and I will try to get a hold of him. -Adam
  3. If the rust has caught your attention, you should know that these cars will rust out, and will do so very quickly if you let them. Keep your Z off the road in the winter and in the rain if you want to keep the rust from digesting any more of your car. Wait until all the salt and sand has long washed away. Every Z has some cancer, and the sooner you accept that, the happier you will be. It's just a matter of how quickly you will let it grow. 2 cents...
  4. Like I have said numerous times, "My wife's V6 Accord may be faster than my 1970 240z, but I have a lot more fun getting there than she does, and I get a lot more 'thumbs-ups' along the way." That being said, I have the original engine in my car, with bigger pistons, a mild cam, and a ported and polished head with a header and better exhaust. This is all in a car that weighs less than yours. Mine is surely much faster than yours, but still slower than most others as well. It's up to you to keep her stock or play with her. If you are looking to play, I recommend the earlier SU's and a header first. Then, a close ratio 5speed set up with a R200 390 rear end. Check the forums here, then try finding the parts, and someone with experience to help you install the drivetrain parts. Done correctly, you will experience a different car! Once you do that, you can perhaps look inside the motor and or head. Have fun with it, and with this site. BTW, I'm in Dallas, where are you? Welcome back to the Z... It's a sickness!

Upon furthur inspection today (I had to go back and look closer, as I am always curious how other Zs compare to mine), I would like to edit my first impressions of the car. I did find some more issues. The mismatched paint on the doors and rockers is noticable for sure, but the photos actually exagerate it. Somehow, in the sunlight, it doesn't seem so noticable. In the right light, you might not notice, but I personally couldn't live with it. Doors have some waviness to them. The car pulls to the left on braking. Motor seems good, perhaps needs carb tuning/balancing. There is some knocking under acceleration. The ride is comfortable and smooth. Accelerates and shifts well. Shifting at 6000rpm or less is advisable, as it doesn't develop any more usable power above 6 grand. Drivers seat has been redone on the inside, but the strapping underneath drivers seat is good, but needs to be re-attatched. After a 5 minute drive, the car leaked coolant from the radiator cap over flow tube (sorry, don't know the correct technical term for that one), and the thermostat swung toward hot in a hurry. Yes, there has indeed been work done to both quarters. There is a bubble below and to the front of the fuel door. There is some minor cracking on the quarter below the rear bumper on the drivers side. Rear hatch area has very minor rust on the deck. Radio doesn't work, but the antenna does. Spot weld on unit body behind the radiator, but the frame is straight, and floor pans are good. The dash must be from a later Z, as the dash cig lighter has been plugged. Ignition takes a totally different key which is only cut on one side. Nice dash, though. Rear end has a leak. They say they will take $12,000, maybe even a little less. Overall, it is a nice Z, and certainly right for someone. I will be keeping mine...

See my second visit impressions below!!! I went by Titus, in Carrollton, TX to see the yellow series one on ebay. I must say that it would be worth it for close to what they are asking. The car is straight and I couldn't find any rust. Very clean. A restoration of this quality would definitely cost much more than the asking price: It's not one of those cheap basket case refreshed Zs. I only spent less that 10 minutes looking at it, and didn't drive it. I am not affiliated with the seller, and have my own series one. I wish I had the $$. Just thought some of you might want to know, as most of us on here are real Z freaks. If anyone wants me to stop by and inspect it for you, let me know. My own mechanic happens to be 2 doors down from their showroom, and I frequent his shop. Just an FYI... Adam
  7. This may be what you are looking for: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts-Accessories_Car-Truck-Parts-Accessories__Datsun-240z-260z-Heater-Knobs-Screw-Set-NOS_W0QQitemZ370116666533QQddnZPartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQadiZ2865QQddiZ2811QQadnZCarQ20Q26Q20TruckQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item370116666533&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A543%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
  8. Remember, the rust you see is only the tip of the iceberg, and it never sleeps. Once you get view of what lies underneath those dime and quarter size little holes and bubbles, you will see what I mean. You might want to do a search on this site for rust/rust repair. You are noble to want to save a Z from the crusher, but it may cost more money than it's worth. I don't know what you paid for the 72, but it sounds like a heap to me, and worth only what the parts you want from it are worth to you. There are lots of old z's all over the country which are in such shape. They often need so much work that, even if you get one for free, it will cost way too much to bring back to life. That being said, one man's trash is another's treasure. What can you get for the second? How in love are you with your 71? I assume that the 71 is in better shape than the 72?Given my experience, it would be difficult to give up my baby of 37 years. A one owner car means little, to me, if it isn't in good shape. Wheel chocks, jacks, and spare tires are a dime a dozen. I would probably part it or sell it. Just my long winded 2 cents. Hope it helps, Adam
  9. Try the site below.I purchased heater control cables and the one screw for the heater knob. If the site shows that they are out of stock, call or email, as they often can get more parts. They were reasonably priced, and communicate well. I would do business with them again. www.new-datsun-parts.com Good luck, Adam

I picked up a new Heater control panel from here. I'ts beautiful, but it's $200. http://store.datsunspirit.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=25 BTW, I have no affiliation with Datsun Spirit, just purchased this one item.

It only helps to increase the value of the relatively few unmolested Z's out there. It will probably remain somewhat of a garage queen. Most of us, however, enjoy our Zs for a different reason. We enjoy driving them. To me, that is what it's all about. While I am certain that the value of my car will increase over time, at least I will enjoy my investment along the way, from the driver's seat.

What size tires are you running?

    Clayton 260z, What size tires?

Ok, It looks like I may be close to making my decision. I want 16 x 7 Rota +4 offset (Panasport knock offs) with the Eibach lowering springs. Does anyone have this set up? Can this specific set up be done with no rubbing, no fender rolling, and no spacers? If so, with what size tires? I am not hung up on a particular tire size. Yes, I have spent hours scouring this site, and have seen lots of tire and wheel discussions. I would rather not purchase wheels online only to have to pay to return ship them, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Adam

Congrats on the progress. It looks AWESOME! I can't wait to see it when it's finished. Is it possible to actually sleep at night while waiting for it to get done? Looking forward to more pics! -Adam
  17. MSA shipped me a defective full dash cover for my 240. I called them and the rep told me to simply take some pictures of it and email them to him. When he saw the pictures, he told me they would send me another one right away. He also said I could keep the faulty one, as the cost to ship an obviously defective part in an oversized box was a waste of money. I hope you have the same experience.
  18. I have a 240z, manufacture date 11/70. There is an blue air cleaner with no bottom snorkel for sale on Ebay. Seller says it is for early 240 z's. I haven't seen one like this before. Is this correct for my car?

I can see it, I simply cannot get my hands back there. I'll get on it before the end of next week, I hope. Nothing will stop me from driving my ACZ in Big D when it's 103 degrees. You with me, "E"?

Enrique, As usual, you are a big help. I have been putting off the intsallation of my NOS heater control panel. I got the new cables. I agree that disconnecting at the vents is much easier, but cannot seem to get to the one which opens the vent to the blower motor "chamber". Do you know a midget with small hands? I have an older aftermarket a/c. That and the blower casing make it impossible to access the screw to undo the cable. Do I have to try to remove EVERYTHING under my glove box (which has been removed and awaits install)? I hope not. I did the Honda blower motor upgrade. It really kicks arse. So, I have really been looking forward to completing this installation. With that and my series one AM radio, my interior will be complete.

BTW, anyone who needs heater control cables, or lost a knob screw, you can get these replacement parts at: www.new-datsun-parts.com/ Carl was very professional. He also may have parts not listed, and seems to have a line on new stuff when he runs out.

I really like that one. Very clean looking. Your ride is Sweeet! I just found the photo gallery section on this site. I saw my orange z with the ductless spook with 16" Panasports, lowered an inch or two. That's it!!!
  24. Thanks to everyone for the pics!

I am looking for an airdam/ chin spoiler. I think I want a BRE spook style as it is somewhat "period correct", but am not sure, as there are a few different styles. Since I know all of you like to show off your rides, can I see some pics of yours, from various angles if you got 'em? This site is awesome. You guys have helped me so much! Thanks, Adam
