Removing 280Z Dash Light Rheostat?
I am having a difficult time in removing the rheostat that controls the dash lights in a '78 280Z. I have followed the instructions outlined in the FSM and can't get to it. There must be a better way. The PO had installed a dash cap and I had to remove it and tons of silicone just to remove the tach. Has anyone done this from beneath the dash? Randy

EGR Identification Number Needed
Jeff... You are the man! This is exactly what I was looking for. It appears the previous owner had installed the incorrect EGR valve as I had suspected. With this information I can now install the correct orifice washer. I will investigate the microfiche you recommend. Thanks again... Randy

EGR Identification Number Needed
I posted the following on the "engine and exaust" forum but haven't received any response. Maybe someone here can help with my request: I picked up a '78 280Z at an auction and I am in the process of getting it up and running as it came from the factory. The previous owner replaced and modified the existing EGR valve and neglected to transfer the OEM identification number. Therefore, I am not exactly sure what is installed. The replacement I purchased requires an orifice washer be installed to regulate the exaust gas into the intake manifold. The vendor supplied about twenty five different orifice washers of various sizes. If anyone out there, who has a '78 Z (76 or 77) with an original EGR valve, can look and see if they have a number stamped on the unit. The number will look like this: 14710-H9810 or similar. I have a cross reference chart that will tell me what correct size orifice to use based on the OE model number. Thanks, Randy

76 280z wont start..
The fuel injection relay plays a big part in providing power to most of the fuel injection components. The F.I. relay provides power to the control unit, fuel injectors, and AFM. It also provides power to the fuel pump and aux air regulator when the ignition switch is in the "start" position. After the engine starts, the fuel pump gets it's power through the AFM when the ign sw is in the "on" position. Disconnect the starter solenoid lead so the engine will not start. Turn ign sw to "start". Listen for pump to run and the pressure regulator to buzz. If no sound, then it may be the relay. Check relay by placing hand on relay when in "start" position and feel for click. If no click, then check ign sw. Hope this helps Randy
