240Z to 280ZX Disti Upgrade Plug On eBay?
Thanks Mr. Camo. I will be looking for one of these adapters and will most likely get the lighting upgrade harnesses (if they will work on the early 240)! Thanks again! Tim

240Z to 280ZX Disti Upgrade Plug On eBay?
Aw man!!! I should not be surfing the web after I have been at work for 10 hours - things just don't sink in! :stupid: Sorry guys! Major brain fart there (and I DO know the difference between the alternator and disti... ). Thanks for all of the info - he is now on my "DO NOT BUY FROM" list! Go get em' Arne! I HATE people that do that crap! I will go to your website and buy it! I would have done that before, but did not realize it was available through you/Dave. Thanks again - learning more about these cars on a daily basis. :cross-eye Tim

240Z to 280ZX Disti Upgrade Plug On eBay?
Hi all, I am about to swap an '83zx engine and 5 speed into the 240z (will swap my SU setup to the L28) and was wondering if anybody has used this connector/plug to do the conversion to the '83 electronic ignition. It seems like a very clean and simple way to go. The other question is "can I buy this outright from one of our vendors"? I would rather buy it than bid on it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=005&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=150244546727&rd=1 Any help is appreciated! Thanks, Tim

Hub cap refinishing
The chrome/polished areas will clean up well, but the gray and black areas are SHOT! We'll see - maybe I'll post an ad on eBay for them "as is" and see what happens. Yep - going to pick up the new "donor" Saturday morning. It will be a few weeks before I can really dig into it, but I can't wait to get started! I am already gathering parts to go to the powdercoater. As far as that Ft. Collins bonehead - he will probably have that ad in there for a LONG time! I wish him all the worst (that would be a bad deal for ANYBODY)... Tim

Hub cap refinishing
Why... Yes I do and yes it will! Beautiful work Kenny! Great writeup! Mine has a set of the "D" style caps. There is ZERO rash on them, but all of the original color is pretty much gone. The outers and center buttons look good (just dirty) and should polish up VERY well. Not a great pic, but you can "sort of" see the condition below. Once I finish the restoration - these WILL BE up for sale... I am not really a "hubcap" guy and I don't want to be paranoid about losing one.

'83ZX 5 Speed = Floor cutting on '71 240?
Thanks Walter! I'll take all of the pointers that I can get. It always cracks me up when I hear all of the little "quirks" that various kinds of cars have. It is the same thing with the Impala - "bend this to the left while rotating the back of of the crossmember downward"... "jack up the right front only, it allows JUST enough room to get a ratchet in there"...

'83ZX 5 Speed = Floor cutting on '71 240?
SCORE!!! I finally linked up with him and IT IS MINE! He wants the 3:90 R200 setup from the donor ZX and I get the 4:11 R180 diff in trade. WooHoo! Saves me some swap $ and gets me a more "fun" combo (5 speed and 4:11's). This is getting VERY interesting! Now it is looking like the drivetrain will be done before the interior! I was hoping to ge the interior done first "while" I was working ont he drivetrain! :stupid:

'83ZX 5 Speed = Floor cutting on '71 240?
Yep - it was the same. He accidentally deleted my first message. Talked to him a while ago - all is GREAT! I was wondering about that Roger! Thank you! I have 2 of the early consoles. We'll get everything installed and see how it all plays our. That may be a great option! Thanks, Tim

'83ZX 5 Speed = Floor cutting on '71 240?
Thanks Marty! I will have to get the donor car here (this weekend) and see exactly where I am at. I will be installing a new clutch kit and cleaning/painting everything up, so I can make sure that everything is good to go at that time. As long as I don't have to hack up my console, I am OK in doing a little bit of trimming. It all sounds pretty straight forward by using the Series II part. I am one of those "gotta see it" kinds of people. Then it all starts to come together! This forum ROCKS!!! Thanks again! Tim

'83ZX 5 Speed = Floor cutting on '71 240?
Excellent! Thanks for the info guys! A good amount of stuff to think about! It looks like (at a minimum), I should find later (78-79) shift lever and do the "S Bend" thing and maybe and trim things up a little as needed. The truck shifter route looks interesting, but I always question the strength of these once they are cut and welded. For clarification, I think that I am just going to do the full drivetrain swap into the 240 - L28 long block, 5 speed and R200 (unless I can get ahold of the 4:11 R180 setup that may be available locally). If I can pull this off easily enough, that will take care of the speedo gear issues. I will need to check it, but from what I could find, the '83ZX non-turbo 5 speed cars had the 3:90's. I hope that is the case! I will need to get the parts to do the R200 swap (280 mustache bar, drive shaft, etc). WooHoo! One step at a time! Tim

'83ZX 5 Speed = Floor cutting on '71 240?
Thanks Tom! I won't ask... However, I will ask this: Did the shifter impact the center console after the trimming was done? If so, is there anythign that needs to be done to the console? Thanks again! Tim

'83ZX 5 Speed = Floor cutting on '71 240?
Hi all, I know that this has been covered here, but there are too many conflicting answers. Thanks in advance for your patience! First of all - Is there a "best thread" out there that details a full 280ZX L28/5 speed swap into an early (2/'71) 240? If so, I could use it as a resource rather than ask a bunch of questions going forward. I am picking up the donor ZX this weekend and will be swapping the '83 drivetrain into the 240 to get it running. If all goes well, I will have it on the road by the end of June! I will be running my SU's with the L28. Here are my questions about the 5 speed swap... 1 - Will I need to cut the shifter area on my 2/'71 240 to accomodate the 5 speed? Some threads have said "Yes - the '70/'71 240's have to be cut". Others have said that this is not an issue if you use the 4 speed shifter. 2 - If I do cut the floor, will the lower shift boot still work effectively? 3 - Will I need to make any slave cylinder changes? I will most likely replace the cylinder anyway (low $), but want to make sure I get the correct one. Information on any other "quirks" that I might run into would be appreciated. Thanks again! Tim

Ft Collins gathering
I did not pick him up because of his leg! It was the 6 pack of Laughing Lab Scottish Ale that he was holding that did it! Don't feel bad thunderz - at least it looks like your car runs! That is more than I can say at this point! However, new developments are in the making. May have an update soon! Tim

Ft Collins gathering
Even though the ZX "donor car" turned out to be a complete RAT, the little gathering turned out to be a blast! Can't wait to do it again! Thanks for the great company guys. Tim Here are a few pics of Dave, Mike and Ken's cars. Seeing these cars REALLY makes me want to get mine on the road! They were beautiful!

Hmmmm.... I wonder what it's worth...
Thanks Arne! Very interesting indeed! Between the radio and the "D" hubcaps (need to restore them), I could pretty much fund my full interior rebuild! Pretty cool considering that I really only spent $500 on the car! Too many "what will the future hold" decisions to make! Thanks! Does that mean I can get the "Z Club discount"? I have added the link to my favorites. Nice website. I went kind of crazy on the system in my Impala - All Eclipse, Focal and Phoenix Gold. I will not go to this level in the Z, but am looking at a single sub, componants up front, 2 ways in the rear and a single 5 channel amp. Here are a couple of pics of the Impala install. I did 100% of it myself. It hit 139.6db in a local sound off competition (but I can't listen to it like that) and the sound quality is amazing!

Hmmmm.... I wonder what it's worth...
Interesting! There is a restored one on eBay right now with a "Buy It Now" price of $399! Sounds crazy to me, but maybe I SHOULD "save it for a rainy day"... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-70-71-AM-Seek-Scan-Radio-OEM-Restored_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38644QQihZ019QQitemZ290227360024QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Hmmmm.... I wonder what it's worth...
I am starting to dig into the 240 (2/71 car) and while many feel that "original is best", I am just not an "AM Radio" kind of guy. :classic: I will be installing a nice audio system in the car as I rebuild the interior. I have been a music freak forever and this car will be my daily driver. I want a nice system in it. Anyway... The car has the original Hitachi "AutoSeek" AM radio. I even have the original factory Hitachi spec sheet/manual for it and it is perfect! I have seen the AM/FM version on eBay sell between $250-$350 (one yesterday was up to $305)! That blows me away! I can take a couple of pics tonight, but was just wondering if there was a "ballpark" figure that these might sell for. I know that it is worth "what somebody is willing to pay", but is the early AM version worth much? If I can sell this and help fund my interior build or audio install, I might just do it. If it is not worth much, I will just put it in an "Original Z Parts" box for future needs... THANKS! Tim
