Mechancal. I think some were dealer fitted with an extra electrical for vaper lock.
  2. First of all I am far from being knowledgable. Was the car sitting for a long time before you bought it? If so someone may have shot oil down the spark plug holes to keep the motor from rusing and seizing up. Used to be a common practice with motorcycle riders for long time winter storage. also are you sure it is oil?

I did a search but never found exactly what I was looking for. I have a 71 240 with a 280 engine. I want to put in a cam. My qusetion is how far can I go (stage I, II, III etc) before it affects drivability on the street or gas mileage. I want to maintain street ability, reliability, and not hurt gas mileage to any extent. The motor has 150-160K miles but is in good shape. I also want to do the occasional autocross event. At this time I am leaning twords the stage II can but want to learn more before buying a one.
  5. Thanks that is great info. i like you analogy of average as well.
  6. A guy at work has made a meter to check of the car is running lean rich or just right. He uses an oxygen sensor somehow. Unfortunatly he is off for a few days and I want to make one and adjust my carbs for an upcoming autocross. Anyone here know how to make one?

Someone replaced the ingition switch in my 71 with a junkyard take off from some other car. It fit, but was upside down. Well it locked up on me while the car was running so I had to kill the car then disconnect the batt. Lucky for me the Dealer was able to order a brand new factory switch for $129. I bypassed the swith intill my new one came in. About a 10 min install. If you need a replacement switch for a restoration job the dealer still has them but are getting harder to find.

Just wondering what parts are available to replace with aftermarket fiberglass for my 71 240? I live near the CA-OR border on the coast so corrosin is a real problem. I did a search for fiberglass but didn't get the info I wanted. Also whre is the best place to get fiberglass parts? Any downside to using fiberglass on these things? I know the weight saving would be minimal if any, but corrosion is my biggest concern. Also one seen a Z with one piece hood, front fenders etc. Is that available and if so where? Thanks.

Actually this is my 3rd post, just found the intro place. bought my first Z one week ago. I got a 71 240 with a 2.8 motor and SU carbs. It was runnning real rich but after a few fixes, semi new radiater out of a junk yard (lucky there) it is running better. I am hoping to auto cross the car. I have lwarned a lot from looking around here and hope to learn more. Lucky for me a friend works ast the local nissan dealer. BTW they still carry ingition switches for the 240Z. I orderd one this week. /next order of business is learn to weld and repalce some rusted parts. :nervous: Thanks all for helping out a new guy.
  10. I am far from being an expert, but have you tried to raise your needles a little?

Just saying hi. I bought my first Z last night. It's a 1971 240 with a 280 infine in good running condition. It has been lowered with a camber kit put in, All suspention bushing are replaced, 280 4 speed 280 rear end and the ingition has been swapped over to elecrtonic. It came with spare rear half shafts, tranny, and SU carbs with stock air cleaner. All this for $1500. I think I got a good deal. Yes it needs a few things done to it like carbs adjusted etc., but it is very driveable and steering it tight. I look forward to learning a lot from here.
