280z caught in a fender bender
Isn't the 280 hood the same as the 240 until 77? I bought a 240 hood three years ago for under $200 new from the dealership.

Would a blown head gasket cause my car not to start?
Then there is the "as long as you are in there" factor. You have the head off, you should check that it is straight and not warped. A lot of people would take the opportunity to do the valves. I have seen warped heads and blown gaskets before but they always ran. Basically a steam caliope but they ran...

Early stock air cleaner housing
I have one. I didn't want to separate it from the carbs but I will not bother with EBay either. If he still needs one contact me.

Who has a set of these?
I bought my Porsche 914 from the original owner (my Z too for that matter), He bought the car from Sierra Porsche/Audi in Riverside. The car was delivered with these wheels. 914 guys call them Western wheels. They weren't particularly light. They also aren't particularly popular. The dealers took off the factory Fuchs Wheel, a forged aluminum alloy wheel to put these things on so they could upcharge the customer for "alloy" wheels. I also have the original 8 track the dealer installed. Now if I can just find that Herman's Hermits tape...

I used a guy in Salt Lake City. Art Thrane at Air Cooled Engineering or ACE. I know, I know, your car isn't air cooled but he is very good... I was able to bolt them on and balance them and go...

Are 73 auto 240z worth it?
I'm not sure I totally agree with much of what has been posted. I owned an automatic 280Z and I autocrossed the crap out of it. The automatic was a great advantage on an autocross course. No third peddle to work, one click to stay in the torque... I stomped the wizz out of that car and trophied every event I attended for years. Other than the generalization that they were "treated better", I agree...

Ground Control Coilovers
If you can manage to get Jay Morris on the phone when you call Ground Control he is a wealth of information on the Z. When he first started having success with the company he was racing a Z. He did the did the corner balance and alignment on my old Z before changing the company to manufacture and sales only and moving up the hill from me in the Diamond Springs area...

I didn't notice you were in Oakland. The ZDoctor is down there somewhere. Richmond maybe?

Bucking sensation
I had to go to your profile to find out what car you own but what you are describing is typical of a throttle position sensor that is gunked up... Sensation will usually happen at steady state cruise. Pop the cover off and look at the circuit board. It is sometimes possible to clean it up and still use it.

On the pic he has of the front of the car, just behind the bumper and on top of the bumper shocks - blocking your view of the bumper shocks is a body colored piece of sheet metal supposedly called a sight shield (I have never looked it up in a parts manual). I have one from a parts car and can take a picture of it. It serves a similar purpose to the part attached to the body in the rear of the 77-78 cars. It is just there to hide the bumper shock. I have noticed at ZONC events over the years that this part is seldom there. I suspect because it gets crunched in any low speed fender bender and not replaced.

Bought it! '78 280Z
Nice. I have found it pretty rare for the sight shield in the front to still be in place. By now most of these cars have tapped something in the front and people have not bothered to find a sight shield to replace the bent up one... California law may be vague as written but as applied, the seller must smog the car. But if you don't insist, DMV is not going to bat for you...

Shopping for a 280Z, frame question
Nice one for sale on the ZONC site. I think it might be in Roseville just outside of Sac... Check it out. Big miles but looks like new.

engine rebuild tutorials
I think you may find a book on rebuilding the L Series Engine by Honsowitz??? Helpful. I have a copy at home but I am in my office on campus. Pretty basic motor to rebuild. Certainly less complex than a Porsche flat 6... Arne is quicker on the post and more accurate as well... Monroe it is. Honsowitz does write some other good Nissan/Datsun books though...

Well I feel like an idiot
Jared, I wouldn't worry about it. If it isn't messing with the alignment it isn't an issue. Bang it out. If it isn't structural and doesn't effect alignment it would be like having plastic surgery for a blemish on your arse. Why? Just keep your pants on What part of town are you from?

David Carradine found dead
The "auto" part of the autoerotic asphyxiation means he did it to himself. Not at all uncommon. In fact when they said he was found naked and hung in his wardrobe closet, autoerotic asphyxiation was the very first thing that came to my mind... I was amazed that the Thai police thought he committed suicide. People do some weird things in the name of self-stimulation.

Shhh... My Z thinks she stole that cover after she bullied the 911 and ate it's lunch.

Bre History Repeating itself-and making one of our own a Celebrity!@
Very timely! I have been covering my Z with a Porsche 911 cover and it is a bit of a stretch!!! Just a little longer than a 911...

Fuel Pressure 26PSI
That fuel pressure can be a problem if you get the engine hot enough or have a hot enough ambient temperature. Then once you shut it off it can be hard to start. Sounds like things are still cool in Delaware...

What's a fair price for spark plug replacement
My guess would be that his labor rate is $110/hour and he charges a minimum of 1 hour labor wise. Hardest thing about changing spark plugs is bending over to turn the wrench. I would do it yourself...

snapped some pics today while on my cruise
I grew up on that lake... Lots of memories of riding horses around there. Nice Z.
