I lost a good friend and brother yesterday
My good friend TJ Lord and his father Gary were gunned down in their Virginia City gun store yesterday.TJ was a sniper and my sniper instructor when I decided to take that training just because as an officer, I could. He made me feel welcome when I think the other students thought I was just an elitist shouldering my way in to the training.Lately, I would see him at the range as I still go almost daily. We both made it back from Iraq with me spending time in hospitals for over a year. It's just so hard to have a brother killed violently when we both thought we were safe now... Well, as safe as you can ever feel after combat. We'd laugh about both trying to get the chair facing the door in restaurants. We'd tell each other when a nightmare woke us up. We'd laugh at ourselves for only knowing how to say "get on the ground" in Arabic. He taught my daughter how to shoot and how to clean her weapon. I never told him but she had a crush on him and told me but not him... People say 'thank you for your service," but truthfully, we did it for the man or woman standing next to us. TJ stood next to me. RIP brother...

Duffy's 1/71 Series 1 240z build
Duffy, I had a similar problem getting a vacuum signal I could use on a Porsche I own. All those throttle plates opening at once creates a heck of an atmospheric drop. I ended up using a mig tip to mitigate the vacuum drop. It wasn't heavenly, but it made it more tuneable. For reference, this is what a MIG welding tip looks like. It's simply an obstruction with a small hole in to modulate changes in vacuum, and anything could be used (aluminum rod with a drilled hole, a carb jet, a drilled plastic BB, etc). In a way, it introduces a 'lag' or slowdown of changes in vacuum, so you get a sort of averaging effect. Much better than having the MAP sensor report every peak and valley in the signal, and having the FI trying to keep up with that.

Big Throat Throttle Body - actual improvement?
First of all, I have one of these TWM Big Throat TB's sitting on my desk as we type. There is a calculation to determine proper throttle plate size and the Big Throat is almost precisely perfect for a 3.0 Stroker. It would be too big for the 2.8. The second part of my thoughts on this would be that if you're going to change out the throttle body, why not go with DBW? When that thing came out, you would almost always get claims like that. 'This thing will increase your horsepower by 10% and make you last longer in bed!'

I'm not sure I like the DBW pedal assembly that pairs with the throttle body though... I suppose I could attach a more traditional looking pedal to it to replace that 'bump.'

This looks promising. Its a Bosch Motorsports unit. 68mm throttle plate. Part # 0280.750.156 Just have to check with Haltech and make sure it's compatible and check the bolt pattern to see if I need to build an adapter. I probably do, I couldn't get so lucky as to have it bolt up!

Anyone calculate ideal throttle body size for a 3 liter stroker? I recall it being bore/HP of 1 cylinder? Never mind. Amazing what you can find if you switch from searching with your phone to using your desktop computer. It calculates to 60mm and change. This TWM "big throat" from the early Datsun performance days is 60mm. If I want to go DBW, I have to switch to a newer throttle body as a retrofit. I'll go 65mm if I can as they say to go 'need + 10%.' This actually makes a lot of sense when you think about it. This throttle body was intended to replace the factory 2.8TB. That would calculate to 'need + 10% for the 2.8 but slightly small for the 3.0L stroker.

I decided to run down the mountain from Tahoe and go to Summit Racing and see if I can find a throttle body with DBW and a pedal that goes with it. I suppose I should make sure it's supported by Haltech!

COVID-19
I watch this pretty closely as I do anesthesia (1 day a week now as I am retired). I have pronounced roughly 30 deaths and intubated twice that. We are quickly approaching 200K deaths in the US and that is a shame as it was not necessary. I think we will still have another peak as there is no discipline in this country. People refuse to do the safe thing because it violates their rights. Hmmm... My next door neighbor died approximately a month ago now. His name was Louie and he was a car guy. (Audi S8 in perfect condition) He was always up for helping me wrench. He called 911 at 8am and when the FD and Ambulance arrived he staggered out the door and fell to the ground unable to breath. He died where he landed. The Washoe County Department of Health had to double body bag him so the funeral home could take him. He was 39. He had just bought that 4Runner for his wife. This is real. It's changing everything. Be safe out there...

Help finding a 240Z Electric Fuel Pump bracket
I have an installed but never had gas run through it, mechanical pump that I bought new. I’ll take a picture and put it in the classifieds today.

That looks nice, and I’ve got one sitting in the garage that I can size things up from. I just need my wife to look the other way while I fiddle with her car! I’m more concerned with the throttle body end either adapting to my throttle body or the throttle body adapting to my ‘75 intake...

Here is the N42 intake mocked up. I may need a different header as I see the intake and exhaust share studs. Been a long time since I've had a 280Z! Also, has anyone mocked up a drawing for a heatshield? I can plasma cut it but it would be easier if I didn't have to duplicate someone's already done work?

I had planned to use this TWM Big Throat TB but I'm finding it might be easier to use an aftermarket DBW with a TPS than trying to get a DBW unit to fit the TWM.

L28 Engine Build and Triple Webers vs FI ITBS? Is the Price difference justified?
Your info says "Canyon Country." I live in an area that could be called that. I live at 4500' and if I go West, I can get to 8900' within 20 miles. EFI wouldn't care about the elevation but when I had triple Webers, it did get a little dicey. Carbs are often pig-rich to cover up the bad tune. Programmable EFI has a steep learning curve but once you are proficient, you wouldn't want to go back. Imagine driving a 50 year old car with reliability and clean running along with excellent power...

I had once planned on using Megasquirt and did tons of research on sensors on the forums. This is a Bosch MAF/IAT and a GM coolant temperature sensor. The MAF/IAT sensor comes off a European BMW and it's inlet/outlet is 70mm. If you're familiar with injector selection, this engine matches nicely to the Bosch 'Green Giant' injector which is what I will be using. Haltech Elite 2500 has an internal MAP and I am not sure if I will use something external or just run a line to the ECU. I have heard of people using both but I'm not sure why or what the benefit would be.

I'm not sure anyone has noticed this yet, but the head had to be modified for injectors. Unlike Duffy, I am using a stock(ish) '75 intake manifold that has been extrudehoned. Otherwise, the only way to use EFI would be to do as Duffy did and use ITB's. I know there is more power to be had with the ITB's and someday, if Duffy can make them work really politely, I might take that leap. I want my wife to ride in the car and maybe even drive it. It is the only car I own that I have found her sitting in and 'fake driving.' She said, "I want to drive this one!" That is high praise for the Datsun because I have owned perfect 911's, 914-6, Delorean, Ferrari 308GTB, and a 944 Turbo. Pricilla has a completely restored red factory interior and I attribute her fondness for this car to the newness of the cabin. (She did like the Delorean and Ferrari). So given that I'm using a stockish set up, I had Rebello machine the head for injectors.

Well, I'm not going to uninstall one to check that but I'll try to get a measurement on the exposed thread for you. They average just on the short side of 1 1/4".
