Thanks Stephen, My system as a knob above the radio that turns on the system low, med, high (it its numbered 1-4) Then there is another switch on the drivers side of the consol that has a toggle switch to move from cool to heat and a knob that you can turn (I am guessing to increase or decrease the temp.) When I turn this knob a little clockwise the compressor cycles off right away. To answer your question, I don't know what type of thermostat is on there. Do I have to remove the housing around the evaporator to find out?

Anyone have a suggestion? Is there one available, or a substitute for this part?

Well, we ran the black light over the system this morning after charging and couldn't find any indication of a leak. The compressor shuts down prematurely when I adjust the temp. switch. This leads me to believe that it may be a faulty AC thermostat. Anyone know where I can pick one up? Or is there a substitute available. I have been all over the www. and don't find anything. It is hot here in Miami, but I was in Niagra Falls last May and that is definitely weather I would not miss.

My '72 240Z with factory air has decided that I don't need the comforts of AC during the 5 months of summer here in Miami, FL. I discovered a leak at the evaporator after running a black light over the system. I have seen some products advertised that claim to stop leaks. Has anyone used these with any success? I don't mind trying as it has been difficult to find a replacement part. What are my alternatives in this case?

Marty, That's the one. Maybe I was lucky, but the description was accurate and there quite a few photos. When I got the car the battery was dead, but it started right up with a jump. I had the carbs cleaned, new plugs, a hi performance muffler installed and it runs like a champ. 147K miles I would like to get all the dings out and repaint it....persimmon orange of course!.. but I can't bare to let it out of my sight right now. Maybe in a few years.

That doesn't address the fact that no matter what, in the end it is an UGLY car and will never change. You probably like fat, ugly chicks too.

I think only the radio is non-stock.

The dash alone is worth $400. If you don't want it let me know how to get in touch with the guy. I'll buy it tomorrow.

Sell the SHO if you have to, it will never be the equal of an early Z. The clutch problem is most likely a leak in one of the lines. You need to replace both the master and slave cylinders. Not a big deal. The early Z's are going to shoot up in value real soon. Forget about the SHO. It's UGLY!!
