  1. Ok so I think I have worked out that I do have 280z hubs on the front now looking at these two hybridz threads. My rotors are of the 280z height. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/88361-need-some-s30-brake-info/ 240z rotor info. # of Bolt Holes : 4 Bolt Circle Diameter : 103 mm Brake rotor Diameter : 10.67" Brake rotor Discard Thickness : .41" Brake rotor Thickness New : .49" Brake rotor Type : Disc Brake rotor Only Center Hole Diameter : 3.19" Height : 2.02" Maximum Lateral Runout : .004" Mounting Type : Type L - rotor Only. The rotor Is Mounted Inboard Of The Hub. The Hub & rotor Sections Are Bolted Together. Replace The Complete Assembly If Hub Flange Is Bent Or Damaged. See Diagram For More Information. Vented / Solid : Solid 260-280z rotor info. # of Bolt Holes : 4 Bolt Circle Diameter : 103 mm Brake rotor Diameter : 10.67" Brake rotor Discard Thickness : .41" Brake rotor Thickness New : .49" Brake rotor Type : Disc Brake rotor Only Center Hole Diameter : 3.19" Height : 1.7" Maximum Lateral Runout : .004" Mounting Type : Type L - rotor Only. Vented / Solid : Solid guess the height is the differnce between the two. that is why the Hub spacers are also different in thickness when converting to vented z31 rotors depending on hubs being used. More information in: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/52174-280z-vs-240z-front-offset/ Hope this helps someone else. Now off to source 280z rotors.
  2. Does anyone know the offset difference for the brake rotors between the 240z and 280z hubs? Just talked to part manufactures and they have sold many of the rotors and never had a problem with fitment reported.
  3. Thanks Zed Head, that is what I am asking what are the dimensions and difference of the hubs? Maybe it is time I pulled the other Z apart too to check.
  4. The difference is enough that the back of the rotor rubs up against the dust backing plate once mounted. The rear of the hub used to stick behind the rotor but with the new rotor it does not stick behind anymore. The hubs and bearings are exactly the same I have not changed them just the rotors and the rotor appears to be too tall. Moving the rotor back about 10mm up agains the dust cover.
  5. Hey All, While I have the suspension out and replacing more bits and bobs on the car, I decided to refresh the rotors and brakes while changing the shocks and springs. I went to install some new 240z rotors I picked up but they are much taller in the hat then the old rotors I have. After looking around here and hybridz I am wondering if I have had my hubs replaced by 280z hubs some where in the cars life, or that I have the wrong new rotors. How I can tell the difference? The photo below show the difference in rotor hat sizes, even taking into account the wear of the rotor~2mm or so the hat is ~8-10mm taller than the old one. I am wondering if I had 280z rotors on the car? Does anyone have a 280z rotor with measurements so that I can compare? Or if there is a way to look at the hubs and know for certain if it is a 240z or 280z hub? I searched for this information all over but I could not find anything. If I missed it please send me to that thread.
  6. Hey OldDatsunGuy, You can try here: http://www.xenons30.com/reference.html
  7. Looking for a good fire extinguisher for the car, recommendations? I see a few listed here but am new to automotive fire extinguishers and want to make sure I am buying the right type and mounting it correctly.
  8. I also found that a small jack under the ball joint helped get the LCA in place for the TC rod.
  9. Thanks Arne, I managed to get the drivers side in last night after struggling for a few hours trying to align the bottom of the strut with ball joint. In case anyone searches in the future the best way I found to do it was put the ball joint on the Lower Control Arm (LCA). Attach it to the steering knuckle. Use a screw driver through the steering arm bolts that will go onto the strut tube bottom. Align the holes so they are pointing towards the car past vertical when you swing the lower control arm up. Then it is a bit of fiddling to get the bolts in. If you have just painted run the bolts through the threads before all this to clear out any excess point. Then tighten them up. Using Arne's method above pry the TC rod into place bolt up and then reconnect the front sway bar if you have one. Then torque everything to the right settings. Having done it now it is much easier to do the other side. The trick is in getting the ball joint and strut tube bottom aligned.
  10. Arne are you saying attach the TC rod first? I got them apart. Trying to put them back together. I have them the way that blue has them in his first picture in post 3. But need to get the ball joint into the bottom of the strut. Is it easier to keep the ball joint on the strut tube bottom and then connect them after to the lower arm? I tried that too but couldn't get them lined up into the lower arm holes.
  11. Any tips on how to actually get the ball joint into the strut tube and then getting the holes aligned so the bolts can go in, for the front of 1972 240z? I have looked around but no tips. Is there an easy way? I have struggled with this for awhile and have not been able to get them to mount. Do I need a big burley friend force the shock up while I get the ball joint in? Would a small jack help? I tried compressing the springs (tokico 280z on a 240z with illuminas). Then forcing it up but the shock doesn't want to compress much at all or not enough to get the ball joint in. I also tried using a small jack but the assembly moves around. Any tips?

I also saw these it was great, there must have been a real 240z nut on the animation team. I was like a little kid getting all excited every time I saw the Z in the background.

Slide hammer is how we got them out last time if i remember correctly. \
  14. Well after much hard work I finally got the stuck shock out of the tube on the orange car. What would you know it is also a Kontrolle, despite being told that two owners ago they replaced them with KYBs. It looks different than the other two fronts I have. Thanks again to everyone for the information. Should be able to get the new Tokico Illuminas in now.
  15. You can still order the individua parts through nissan as my understanding. I just ordered some of the seals separately. Check out there sites: For part numbers: http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsuns30/DatsunFairladyZIndex/tabid/1543/Default.aspx For ordering I go through NisssanParts.cc http://www.nissanparts.cc/
  16. Arne or Gary you might want to edit post #11 too as the quotes still show the phone number and might stop them getting spam calls.
  17. you might also try zbarn
  18. That colour is awesome! Really very nice
  19. Sounds like you are making progress buddy, looks like a great shop. Yeah wish my neighbour had a 240Z then I could get him to help out
  20. Thanks Mike, Yeah I have been trying to track down info this is the best I came up with. With them being slightly better rated than the KYBs oh well worth checking. http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/suspension.html Here are some photos for all to complete the thread. Tried to take a photo of the part number but it did not turn out well.
  21. Thanks for the link, I found other links like that but not really any information on whether these are any good or anything in general about them. Anyone have info on these shocks?

Happy Anniversary Jim! Looks like the project is coming along nicely
  23. Pulling a part some extra front struts I had be given awhile ago when I purchased the white car as practise for the gland nut which is a whole other story. I found an interesting strut insert I had not heard of Kontrolle. I am guessing they are not making these anymore for the Z or that they are not very good and hence no one uses them. These Kontrolle's are front inserts and look like they have seen better days with what looks to be the part number 2871501. I was wondering if anyone on here had information on them? And if they were any good or just a cheaper alternative?

Hey Glenn, I also plan to drive down to LA friday night if you are interested? Maybe we could get a group of Zeds heading down from SF to LA?
  25. I was also wondering if there was a non-original looking hose just molded?
