Thats a nice looking car you're getting there - I hope its as good as the pictures suggest and that you enjoy it very much when you get it!
  2. Poindexter Sorry I somehow missed meeting you / your car - I wanted to see it in person, and I probably did since I was there the whole day, but I didn't put any names to screen names if you know what I mean... Just for the record, you got beat at 'oldest Z' by yours truly, at 13940, and there was another guy in the low 14000s. Very cool to see what everyones car was like, and enjoyed the whole day, although my neck looks a lot like the color on that GT-R. 7277 invited me out for a ride when I first signed up, sorry it didn't occur to me to find you at the show.

I fixed a 240z tach that had the same problem by loosening the bushing directly below the pointer needle. If you pull the needle straight out, there is a brass bushing with slots on either side you can grip to tighten/loosen. That is if the design is similar to the 240z tach
  4. I notice being noticed on the road, but lately its not the good kind. I'll be tooling down the road at 40, and see a minvan or an Escalade, or a BMW - doesn't matter - on a side road up ahead. They'll sit and watch me head toward them and then right before I get there, they remember they were going to turn and pull out right in front of me! This leads to an awkward visual acknowledgement where the driver of the other car is smiling at me, and I'm scowling and yelling 'dumbass' out the window at him. I'm probably not representing our fine community all that well...

I just bought a set of those 280zx rims for my 240 - what size are the tires you have mounted there - I'm not sure what size to get. Good looking car!

Does it stick in position after the car is turned off? I had one like that, and I was able to remove the needle, and loosen the bushing on the front of the shaft to free it up to return to zero.

Can I install a plastic 280zx fan and clutch on my 71 240z without any clearance issues? Does the bolt circle match up? I bought a supposed Z fan (no clutch) off ebay recently and the bolt circle didnt match the circle on my clutch. I'm replacing because my car came with the correct but heavy metal fan and there seems to be a consensus that the plastic fan is better for the water pump's longevity. Also, it just seems that the metal fan with its small blades cant move as much air. Thanks
  8. I wanted a Z since I was about 10 and just got one last month - I know how you feel, but I too would suggest it is worth driving it home! Enjoy both the car and the kid!

I've got two problems with my tach and I haven't seen any discussion here on these problems yet. If I've missed them, someone please chime in. If not, then let the discussion begin. First problem, if engine speed changes rapidly, either from a gear change or goosing the throttle, the tach does a pretty large-scale bounce. Probably up to 4-5k then it bounces down to approximately the correct reading. Secondly, you'll note that for the first problem, I say 'approximately' because my tach seems off by about 1000 RPM. At idle, barely ticking over at about 500RPM it reads 1,500 or so, and on the highway in 4th at 70, it reads 4,500 or so. I'd like the tach to read correctly, not the least because the car feels flat on acceleration and I'm thinking maybe the clutch is slipping, but since the tach isn't accurate, I have no reference, and I'm afraid the engine may be revving even higher than indicated. I "think" its reading high down low, but maybe its also reading low at the higher end. The car is a 1971, with good points and cap to my eye, stock coil, ballast resistor and a 4-wire tach. I found some screws on the back of the tach that look like adjustment points - am I being overly optimistic to think the reading is adjustable?
  10. Randy Just wanted to comment on how great your car looks... And by the way, your in-car video of the orange one you sold on ebay a while back pushed me over the edge and into my first Z - and its my favorite color orange! I must've watched your video about 30 times...
  11. Looks like the one Carl mentioned is still available as it didn't get a single bid?
