  1. Me as well, which I'm sure most here did also. My interest was really older Oval window Beetles and 240z, 280zx. By default of now almost 3 decades of focusing on those cars, and years of buying cars and parts, I could probably finance my restoration of my 240 with just selling my parts, but I'll gladly buy more for the build and keep my hoard.
  2. The Golden era of cars? If the 1970 240z came out today, would it be the $3500 car it was then? Not talking the techno advances, I'm only discussing it through todays lens. Would such an international sensation like the 240z be only worth ($19,000) in todays money? I hardly think so. The 400z, or whatever its going to be called I would imagine is going to set you back at the very least $50,000. Maybe its not fair to not judge the tech aspect of the car, but a new car in 1970 was just that, a new car. What can you get for $19,000 today that had the inspiration the 240 had, crickets. I was really hoping that the Toyota FRS was going to be the car that came to revolutionize like the 240z did, but I dont think is landed. It has all the earmarks the 240 has, cheap, looks, manual, rear wheel drive, cheap to operate. I owned an RX-8 when they first came out, and I was really thinking Mazda hit out of the park, and then...... So where will the new Z fall into, a couple of years of "hey, theres a new Z"!), and the find them on the used market for 50% value in a couple of years? The New Beetle had the same fanfare, then splat, then the New New Beetle the same, then splat, and remember, the Beetle (old) is the most popular car in history, and VW could not capitalize on it. I guess the point is, the last 2 generations have deemed cars as not what my parents or my generation (I'm 47) has made them out to be. So, when you watch the popular car auctions, and someone pays $185,000 for a really nice Hemi Cuda, is there an investment there, is that money well spent for a future that may not have an audience for such machines?
  3. Honestly until I realized that Nostalgic offer the service for controls on the OE panel, was sold on Vintage, but now, I think Nostalgic will be the one, and all new parts.
  4. A side note, I live about 2 hours from Nostalgic, I may take all my OE stuff and let them measure and give me their recommendations.
  5. It wasnt a definite that it wouldnt work, they wanted to know dimensions. I guess I should have said they knew for sure the 200HC would fit. He said it would be intrusive on the feet. I agree with the Vintage system with all the documentation on this site alone will be a great help. I didnt realize anyone out there would take the effort to modify the OE control panel to work, to me that is the kicker. I'm guessing its not that hard, but you also have to have the resources to build the hardware.
  6. Called again. So the ID-200HC evap unit is what they are recommending for 240z install, he thinks the ID-260 is too larger. He says it is adaptable to their "Datsun" package. ALso, you mail in your control panel and they custom make cable controls. But what they wanted me to do was measure everything out, and condenser measurement and they would "build" me a kit that would work. I like the sound of that better than running the VA system and a generic rheostat panel.
  7. I swear I looked at that tab, thanks. I may have to entertain this.
  8. Just got off the phone with them, she didnt say they do that, unless I wasnt explaining my self that good. If my ex wife was here she would probably agree with that notion. Got a link?
  9. Well, it will be my daily driver and for fun road trips. Wife will still go, but probably not a lot if the A/C is sub par. I had a few ZX's in the past, and I dont remember those being to good during 100* days either. So aftermarket and silly rheostat panel for controls? I really hate to do that. I did see a thread where someone rigged up OE sliders to the Vintage system. I cant remember how that worked out. A little searching.....
  10. I have been dead set on Vintage Air, but, my 73 came with factory air, and I have all the components removed and just sitting. Should I try to refurbish the OE system, but maybe a better blower? Honestly when I dismantled the car and put it on the rotisserie, I cringed after taking all the cable controls, brackets, etc out and feeling dread about having to reinstall all of that stuff. Honestly is looks a tad daunting to try and get all the cables and linkages working again correctly. Is there any literature available for reinstalling all that stuff? Currently its been 2 years since I dismantled all of that. I've been documenting with pics the best I can, but after a few years I'm sure I'll be scratching my head when things start going back together.
  11. Thanks. It went under the fuel tank then down the rear valance, and then it came out onto the horizontal tube to the bumper mounts? Pretty strong.
  12. Can you find out how much for shipping?

    Thanks.

      Wilco.

It will be a couple years, still up on rotisserie.  I'm glad for this site, what a great network here.

I get to Calgary every once in a while, maybe a beer.

Great! Have a great holiday. Stay safe.

  13. What the hell, looks like an M1 rolled over it.
  14. Great thanks. I'm doing a rotisserie restoration, so maybe bigger and better brakes when I get to that phase.
  15. How did the 240 pull? Did you have the 4 speed in it?
  16. Ok, thats hilarious. I have the z and the motorcycle matchbox in my closet somewhere. I want to say its a 260z 2+2 right hand drive. I lived in Japan in the early mid 70s being my dad was Navy, and have plenty of old Japanese toys still somewhere in boxes.
  17. Just from looking at their pic, it seems it would work. Bolt the vertical supports on the square tube on either side of the spare tire well. Whether a a hole needs to be cut in the rear valance is another question. I have been mentally preparing myself for that, came up with a plan to make a removable hatch on the rear valance.
  18. It cant be this easy, can it? U-Haul: 1972 Nissan 240Z Rear Wheel Drive trailer hitch components
  19. Not worth being saved? The ZX with the plastic cover I certain didnt have that set up with the vertical bolt. Looks like the sheet metal got all jillywhacked because of it as well, a little too much flexing.
  20. So did the bumper mount over that horizontal bar to cover it? Awesome pics.
  21. Years ago I had a tow hitch on my ZX, so when Dad decided he had enough of me sleeping till noon the first summer out of high school, and not really having any direction, Dad decided (kicked out gently) it was time I got educated, and I went off to A&P school to be an airplane mechanic. So me and my 81ZX with a Uhaul trailer headed down the road. So, my question is, since that was over 25 years ago, and I'm sure I dont remember how it really towed, has anyone been towing with their Z? I also believe it was the dual axle trailer as well, because I brought a couch. I want to install a hitch system on my 240z I'm restoring for a teardrop camper. Does anyone have any experience doing anything like this? ZX being the slightly bigger car, I'm not really sure on what a 240 will do, if anything for towing. PS, I have the Borg Warner 5 speed I'm putting in the 240, along with a slightly bored out 2.4.
  22. My kids, 15,19, 21, all girls, had to progress is their driving "privilege" of driving. The 15 year old is the last one going through this process. They all started on a 1956 Beetle, then 1965 C20 Pickup 4 on the floor, then at the time 82 280ZX. Then it turned out the 20 yr old when she was 17 was what the insurance companies call a 'risk', so she drove the 280zx full time with collector car insurance for $220/yr. She scoffed at first, but riding the bus to school was worse, then she became very popular when she drove the red Datsun to school, and this was jut 3 years ago, she then became very fond of the 280zx. So there are at least 3 younger types out there who actually like older classic cars. I did all this so they wouldnt be texting and driving and doing nothing but driving until they got their everyday car, it was just for learning "how to drive".
  23. Been going to Delhi for years, everytime descending below 10,000 feet you begin to smell the pollution and by the time you're at the hotel my lungs would be burning. Black funk comes out everytime you blow your nose. Climate change (if you believe the current climate of it) pun intended, and India is a joke, they cant even make the air inhabitable. Maybe billions of US tax dollars will clean it up.
  24. It definitely works during driving. If you open the door, "ding". My first zx was an 81 with no voice warning, my second was an 83, and knew nothing about bitchin Betty, right until "Ding, fuel level is low".
