Any advice on a 4 Post Lift
So to get the wheels in the air for maintenance on a 4 post, whats the trick? Why not a 2 post? They have short stands for vertically challenged spaces.

How to find original paint color for 240z
We all talk about originality for cars, and you hit the nail on the head. One of the big reasons for trying to find out if it were indeed possible to find the original specs for the car, was to see if I can just paint it the way I want and still call it original. I'll know more when I go see the car. I would think there will be somewhere to see original paint. But it was 100% disassembled and each piece painted.

Not at the car yet. A project I'm trying to acquire from someone.

How to find original paint color for 240z
I agree. I'm planning to go look at a project that has been stripped pretty thoroughly, I was just hoping to see of there was something in records just in case. Thanks.

How to find original paint color for 240z
So with old VW's, you can write Volkswagen and get a births certificate for your car. I havent seen where anything like this exists for Datsuns. So how do you find the original color of the car without the little sticker up front if its been striped to bare metal? Maybe I have been spoiled by VW.

240z VIN
So anything below 1776 on the HLS side of things (on this list) is a 69 production car? EDIT: Re-reading your articles, I see the note you added, about being hectic at the factory. But I'll still leave my question intact above, which I'm guessing that really means no that 1776 and below are not all 69's. Thanks.

240z VIN
I just realized YOU ARE THE AUTHOR! Lol. Can I have your autograph? So, I can ask you directly. VIN 1776, is it HLS? Thanks so much for you guys who have such insight.

240z VIN
So this article was really the reason for my post. I understand the HLS and HS, but the header above all those VIN numbers say "So far, the following 1969 Production Year HLS30 series cars have been located:" I'm only on my first cup of coffee, but it looks like all those numbers are HLS- regarding the author of the article. An error perhaps? If you look at the last large column of VINs, 1776 is listed as 12/69. I'm assuming 1776 is a HS-xxxx. But I hate to assume. 179 of first 500 69 Production 00502 has a production date of 11/69 00503 has a production date of 11/69 00504 has a production date of 11/69 00506 has a production date of 11/69 00512 has a production date of 11/69 00513 has a production date of 11/69 00525 has a production date of 11/69 00538 has a produciton date of 12/69 00587 has a production date of 12/69 00591 has a production date of 12/69 00684 has a production date of 11/69 00784 has a production date of 11/69 00789 has a production date of 12/69 00793 has a production date of 12/69 01321 has a production date of 12/69 01776 has a production date of 12./69

240z VIN
What VIN numbers were manufactured in 1969? I found a few conflicting articles on what was the cutoff. I read where there were 500, then another said up 1100.

240Z-400Z
Me as well, which I'm sure most here did also. My interest was really older Oval window Beetles and 240z, 280zx. By default of now almost 3 decades of focusing on those cars, and years of buying cars and parts, I could probably finance my restoration of my 240 with just selling my parts, but I'll gladly buy more for the build and keep my hoard.

240Z-400Z
The Golden era of cars? If the 1970 240z came out today, would it be the $3500 car it was then? Not talking the techno advances, I'm only discussing it through todays lens. Would such an international sensation like the 240z be only worth ($19,000) in todays money? I hardly think so. The 400z, or whatever its going to be called I would imagine is going to set you back at the very least $50,000. Maybe its not fair to not judge the tech aspect of the car, but a new car in 1970 was just that, a new car. What can you get for $19,000 today that had the inspiration the 240 had, crickets. I was really hoping that the Toyota FRS was going to be the car that came to revolutionize like the 240z did, but I dont think is landed. It has all the earmarks the 240 has, cheap, looks, manual, rear wheel drive, cheap to operate. I owned an RX-8 when they first came out, and I was really thinking Mazda hit out of the park, and then...... So where will the new Z fall into, a couple of years of "hey, theres a new Z"!), and the find them on the used market for 50% value in a couple of years? The New Beetle had the same fanfare, then splat, then the New New Beetle the same, then splat, and remember, the Beetle (old) is the most popular car in history, and VW could not capitalize on it. I guess the point is, the last 2 generations have deemed cars as not what my parents or my generation (I'm 47) has made them out to be. So, when you watch the popular car auctions, and someone pays $185,000 for a really nice Hemi Cuda, is there an investment there, is that money well spent for a future that may not have an audience for such machines?

Best add on A/C kit for 77 280z??
Honestly until I realized that Nostalgic offer the service for controls on the OE panel, was sold on Vintage, but now, I think Nostalgic will be the one, and all new parts.

Best add on A/C kit for 77 280z??
A side note, I live about 2 hours from Nostalgic, I may take all my OE stuff and let them measure and give me their recommendations.

Best add on A/C kit for 77 280z??
It wasnt a definite that it wouldnt work, they wanted to know dimensions. I guess I should have said they knew for sure the 200HC would fit. He said it would be intrusive on the feet. I agree with the Vintage system with all the documentation on this site alone will be a great help. I didnt realize anyone out there would take the effort to modify the OE control panel to work, to me that is the kicker. I'm guessing its not that hard, but you also have to have the resources to build the hardware.

Best add on A/C kit for 77 280z??
Called again. So the ID-200HC evap unit is what they are recommending for 240z install, he thinks the ID-260 is too larger. He says it is adaptable to their "Datsun" package. ALso, you mail in your control panel and they custom make cable controls. But what they wanted me to do was measure everything out, and condenser measurement and they would "build" me a kit that would work. I like the sound of that better than running the VA system and a generic rheostat panel.

I swear I looked at that tab, thanks. I may have to entertain this.

Best add on A/C kit for 77 280z??
Just got off the phone with them, she didnt say they do that, unless I wasnt explaining my self that good. If my ex wife was here she would probably agree with that notion. Got a link?

Best add on A/C kit for 77 280z??
Well, it will be my daily driver and for fun road trips. Wife will still go, but probably not a lot if the A/C is sub par. I had a few ZX's in the past, and I dont remember those being to good during 100* days either. So aftermarket and silly rheostat panel for controls? I really hate to do that. I did see a thread where someone rigged up OE sliders to the Vintage system. I cant remember how that worked out. A little searching.....

Best add on A/C kit for 77 280z??
I have been dead set on Vintage Air, but, my 73 came with factory air, and I have all the components removed and just sitting. Should I try to refurbish the OE system, but maybe a better blower? Honestly when I dismantled the car and put it on the rotisserie, I cringed after taking all the cable controls, brackets, etc out and feeling dread about having to reinstall all of that stuff. Honestly is looks a tad daunting to try and get all the cables and linkages working again correctly. Is there any literature available for reinstalling all that stuff? Currently its been 2 years since I dismantled all of that. I've been documenting with pics the best I can, but after a few years I'm sure I'll be scratching my head when things start going back together.

Towing WITH your Z
Thanks. It went under the fuel tank then down the rear valance, and then it came out onto the horizontal tube to the bumper mounts? Pretty strong.

Towing WITH your Z
What the hell, looks like an M1 rolled over it.

Towing WITH your Z
Great thanks. I'm doing a rotisserie restoration, so maybe bigger and better brakes when I get to that phase.

How did the 240 pull? Did you have the 4 speed in it?
