I pulled mine and took it to a place called readistrip after hours of trying to clean the sludge out with solvents which did cut it but I spent $30 on solvents and was no where near clean yet. readistrip cost $85 and it was as clean as a new tank. took off paint, rust, sludge, everything down to clean bare metal. I am sure there are other chemical strippers around in different cities that do same thing but this is supposedly a "greenie" chemical for what its worth..

Thanks Stephen, I can find the humor in that but when I spoke with the mechanics about the ac it was several years back. I did speak to my father about the ordering again recently and he still swears that the '75 280's were the first to get factory air but books don't lie and he just may not of ordered any out of habit. Brett Smith owned Smith Mesa Datsun here in Mesa AZ but I thought he owned one in california also. did you work at one of his dealerships?

I need help on which sending unit I need for my 260z. I see 70-73 240z and then the fuel injection style for 280's but what part number do I need for the late style 260z? Is it the same as the 240's? where is the best place to get it? thanks!!

I have been told by everyone of the old datsun mechanics I know that no 240 or 260z's had factory air. I confirmed this with my dad who use to order all the Z's for the dealership from late '69 through '77. The dealer could order (still not factory) the car have air installed at the distribution center in california (west coast only maybe?) but the cost was excessive so the dealers did it themselves in almost all cases. all systems I have seen compressor was on passenger side but there may of been a different aftermarket system installed on the drivers side I guess.. I have a late 74 with ac still on it if you want any pics I could take them later in the week when I will see it.
